I think all new Switch games require updated firmware to play. I popped in Team Sonic Racing and got the message "A system update is required to use this game card". I doubt most people encounter this problem since they're hooked up to wifi.

That's been a thing since the Wii. Nintendo usually gets around the need for an internet connection by including the required System Software on disc/game card, but if you have an internet connection and keep reasonably up to date on system updates, you'd never know about it if you don't go looking around for that fact.
(Back on the Wii, this system was used for two purposes: First, to get the needed support software installed for games that needed it, like the Wii Speak drivers for the few games that used it. Second, to make sure everyone got those wonderful "performance and stability improvements", AKA anti-homebrew updates.)

I just learned that there's a new Cooking Mama game coming out this year (with, funnily, a vegetarian mode), but I can't figure out if the name is Cookstar or Coming Home to Mama. The latter seems more likely since "Cookstar" is a nonsense word.
What's the current thought on likelihood of a "Switch Pro" with the D-pad and other improvements like hardware? Three Houses really has me tempted but they've also just released/are about to release a better battery version of the normal Switch and the Switch Lite.

If it's coming out it'll likely be announce in July of next year, just like the Lite was, but I'm not counting on it until 2021.
