Because. Just because.

It can be referenced, he has yet to interact with her...and a you-know-what at first sight can happen...

I don't think they'd focus that heavily on it since I don't think the two have ever met so far. XD

She has more chemistry with Violet anyway.

Reboot Doofus is more or less only Doofus In Name Only. And yeah, the showrunners obviously handled him how they did out of spite for the character.

On another subject, how far do you all figure they'll take the "F.O.W.L. agents are spread around"? Like, do any of you see them making someone like say, Pete a loyal spy? A recurring minor character one? That girl who looks suspciously like Roxanne?

I have to thank Ducktales for teaching me that there actually is a bird called the violet sabrewing. That's one of the coolest names ever for a bird.

I imagine that they'll probably reveal a few more F.O.W.L. Agents in Season 3 beyond the ensemble shown at the end of Season 2, but probably not as far as the notable background extras.

I admit I don't think I'd have been particularly surprised at the identity of High Command if I went into the finale spoiler-free. Mainly since three birds that not only seemed kind of shady, but were also explicitly listed under the "Villains" category when production materials were shown off? On the other hand, maybe that's the point, since the characters that are a part of F.O.W.L. are kind of surprising.

Catching up on Season 2, maybe its a coincidence, or a famous musical thing.

But the song they hum sounds exactly like the very start of Lugia's Song in Pokemon 2000.

Also wow does Lena come off as a jealous ex-girlfriend towards Violet. No wonder there is a bunch of fanfic (from what I saw post s1)

I really hope Lena, Violet and Webby stay friends and they get some more episodes. Its a nice dynamic.

Lastly, Launchpad and Beakley bonding is the best.

Given the episode, I'm guessing the song Webby and Violet hum when they're about to start messing with magic.

A Nightmare on Killmotor Hill

What, as in A Nightmare on Elm Street? Interesting. I've seen that movie. I'm guessing Magica is going to play Freddy Krueger.

"Nine, ten, never sleep again" Huh, this is episode 19. Coincidence?

We start with Webby's String Theory board, which has a picture of Magica when she was still green. Notice someone shot five suction cups at the photo... and missed every shot. Someone clearly needs practice. grin

There's also a note about an "alternate timeline". Not sure what that is referring to. Maybe there will be some time travel shenanigans later on.

Wait, what is Hortense Mc Duck doing on there? That's Donald and Della's mom, and Scrooge's younger sister, for those keeping track. But why is SHE on this board?

"Thanks for setting all this up." "Of course, we've got everything we need for a sleepover." So, where does Lena live now? I guess Violet is sleeping over, at least, so it is left a bit ambiguous whether or not Lena lives in the mansion now.

"Nothing weird is going to happen at this slumber party." You say that, like, EVERY time. grin

Lena sings a dorky song and made friendship bracelets. Doesn't really feel like the old Lena.

"Is this a prank, or something, why are you being so nice?" Clearly, the other characters find this a bit suspicious too.

I'm not sure what was up with that candle flaring up like that. Was that because of Lena's frustration? Is she a Magical Girl now?

Lena wants to get the good guy thing right, but is clearly overdoing it a little.

"Lena, you're the living shadow of Magica De Spell, Scrooge's greatest enemy, and you still turned out good." Not sure reminding her of that is the greatest idea. Lena doesn't seem all that impresed, either.

Something odd about the coloration on Huey in the opening shot. Is that supposed to be shadow?

The kids stay up till 4 am and are knackered, predictably.

And then Lena's irritability makes a balloon pop. Clearly her emotions manifest as random magic now. Is it odd that no one seems to react to this? I mean, maybe they got used to it, but I don't think the show has properly explained this to the audience yet.

"I'm a good guy now. Bad dreams can't hurt you." And then she suddenly has Magica's eyes, and a lock of black hair. Well, that's ominous.

Lena cuts the black lock of hair off, which of course doesn't look odd at all, and they all go to sleep. And then they are suddenly teleported to a tropical island.

"Facing certain death with my friends on a desert island? I've dreamed of this moment!" So this island is all Webby's fault, then. grin And of course she doesn't question this for a second, which does kind of make sense if this is a dream.

Of course, things start getting weird right away, like a coconut with a hamburger inside, or or Louie's phone suddenly working with emojis instead of numbers. And then the phone is suddenly a banana. One of the emojis looks like a dead face puking, by the way.

Then a talking unicorn appears, gives Webby a Scrooge outfit, and gives her some insane quest.

Also note the unicorn declaring Webby the Chosen One. grin

"This is like all my wildest dreams smushed together." Lena denies this is a dream, but Violet quickly deduces that Lena's magic has transported them all into a shared dream.

"Extreme sleep deprivation could upset your magical aura." Maybe, but then why is Lena effectively having Webbys dream?

Lena admits she's been having bad dreams, and promises no more secrets, but of course keeps the involuntary transformations to herself.

"It's bad enough waking a sleepwalker, who knows what waking a dream walker could do." Actually, waking a sleepwalker is perfectly safe, and certainly preferrable to having them blunder around asleep. You'd think our resident woodchuck would know better. Of course, this is just an excuse for the kids to stay inside the dream longer.

They all sprout butterfly wings and fly off, and Lena tries to follow... but sprouts bat wings instead. Lena has a black goth heart inside, and I love it. grin

"This is good, everyone is having fun, I probably grew horrible bat-monster wings because of very non-evil reasons." I totally agree. Bats have a bad rep. :p

Lena has a small nightmare sequence, but suddenly returns to normal just in time to meet the others.

"Ew, Webby, why is there a school in your dream?" Because she is a nerd. Obviously.

Tradewtion of excellence. But not a good speller, apparently. Wait. Dew? Is this Deweys dream?

Yep, it is. Dewey dreams of being a jock at high school, apparently. Dewey gets a short, corny song about being the star of his own high school, and Lena grows claws as she catches a ball. No one else seems to mind.

"This is my favorite dream!" Why, though? This doesn't really seem to fit Dewey's character. If anything, I would have guessed this was Hueys dream. He's the bookish one, after all.

Though it seems the main reason is so the writers can cram in a bunch of puns around the word 'dew'.

"What's that?" "I think it's supposed to be my romantic interest? But I'm threatened by that concept, so it never takes shape." It looks like a giant floating blue blob of goo. Insert your own puberty joke here.

"Here are my singing rivals." They look more like a bunch of mean jocks than a drama club. grin

Also, is it me, or is this sequence channeling the 90s view of what school in the 70s looked like in America? This doesn't feel very modern to me, but I could be wrong.

"This is in all my dreams. I'm like cradled by a moon made of my own tears, who knows what that's about." "I have some theories." I'd love to hear them, because I'm not sure what this is about, either.

And then Lena gets chased by the Dewey mascot, which is surprisingly creepy. Of course it turns out to be Magica inside, who does the "join me" gesture as she closes in. Lena triggers the sprinklers (which rain a Dewey themed soda, apparently), and Magica melts away. This interrupts Dewey's self absorbed dream, and after some thinking, Louie opens a locker to his own dream (which are color coded for the nephews, by the way).

Louie's dream is... to be a lazy, pampered, fat house cat. grin

Lena, meanwhile, has transformed into a wolf.

"Fascinating. In dreams, this form can represent outsider syndrome, perhaps a violent feral instinct." Violet is pretty much the Hermione of the group now. She's basically a walking Junior Guidebook. Also, your dream analysis is probably not helping. grin

"Or she's a pack animal and we're her pack." Good positive thinking, Webby.

Then Beakley appears and speaks some strange words, and leaves to set a hunter after Lena, who is, of course, Magica.

Huey leaves to his own dream through the litter box, which I guess counts as a poop joke. So it has finally come to this, Ducktales. grin

Huey's dream is to have ten foot legs, to the horror of Dewey. Yeah, that looks pretty terrifying.

Huey's idea of being tall and mature is to have ultra long legs while his body stays the same. For someone who is supposed to be the smartest of the group, that seems like a rather naive view of growing up.

"In what world does that description equal this?" "I'm not good at imagination stuff, okay?" Oh, that explains a lot, then. grin

Dewey's horror is quickly shared by the others as Huey contorts his legs and stretches out his arms for various mundane tall people tasks. Dewey saves the group from the Huey Horror by jumping into a random dream montage.

The dream montage includes Phooey, the legendary fourth nephew. Well, that was strange. grin

Meanwhile, Lena keeps having nightmarish moments during the montage.

"We're at a library?" "My dream is just to read more." Yeah, I can get into that. grin

Then Scrooge suddenly yells for them to get up already. At six AM. And to get a job already. grin

Then it's Lena's turn, whose dream is of course a complete nightmare. Is it odd that a living shadow can have dreams? It's never really explained how this whole thing is supposed to work.

Lena is finally confronted by Magica, who claims this nightmare is one of her traps. It's not really clear whether or not this is the real Magica, or just a dream, though.

Magica claims the nightmare and transformations are because of Lena's evil nature still being present under the surface. She also explains that while this is a dream, Magica is really talking to her through a psychic connection, because Lena is still a shadow of Magica.

Magica continues her usual psychological abuse, and forces Lena to transform into Magica's double, claiming that her friends are here to destroy her.

The kids confront Lena!Magica, who tries to explain that she is really Lena, but is misunderstood because of sounding sarcastic (this is set up earlier, but it still feels a little forced, to be honest). Lena!Magica then turns into a combination bat/wolf/Magica monster.

The kids beat Lena!Magica up, and she is smacked into a mirror, where Magica tempts her to give into her darkness and join her. Webby stops her at the last moment as Lena is about to give in, apologizing and explaining that she is not the same as Magica, having saved her earlier, something Magica would never do.

Magica and the kids have a tug of war over Lena, which is finally decided when a tear from Webby falls on Lena's lips, which activates their friendship powers and defeats Magica, waking them up. Man, this stuff is straight out of Kingdom Hearts. grin

They confirm that they are awake, and spot some flying drone thingy outside the window, which flies off to a mysterious black shadow.

"Aunt Magica? You really have been creeping into my dreams all week." "Night after night I've been trying to get you to give your powers back to me, but you kept waking up. I thought if you had your friends to distract you, you'd stay asleep, but nooo. You can give my powers back right here, though. Take my hand." How nice of Magica to exposit to the characters and audience. grin

Also, does she really think Lena is just going to give her powers to her like that?

Magica looks decidedly less Intimidating Sorceress, and more Gothic Hobo Woman, though. And she's wearing a silly looking prototype helmet, which she presumably used to enter Lena's dreams.

Her eyes are still crazy, but her skin is now white. Oddly, her dream self was still green. Not sure what that is supposed to indicate. I get the feeling the show wants its cake and eat it too with having a green Magica but not having her actually be green.

"Isn't magic your whole thing?" "You really don't have any powers left." Oh wow. Magica actually lost all her powers. Though, then again, she never had any real magic in previous incarnations. She was always the spells and artifacts kind of witch, not really a witch with inate magical powers.

And then Lena telepathically breaks Magica's helmet. So much for being telepathically connected, then.

Magica tries to claw her way through the gate, but the kids just ignore her and go back inside, apparently not even bothering with alerting Scrooge or the authorities. Well, that settles it: Magica's Villain Decay is complete. For now, at least.

Well, that was a wacky, interesting episode. Great fun, and exploring Lena's psyche was very interesting. Ducktales may not always be the best at drama, but when it comes to Lena's trauma and psychological horrors, this show really shines. Great episode.

I see from the trope page that there was deleted dialogue that Lena is living with Violet now? Would have been nice if that had been in the show, but good that it is established now. Though I'm not sure what the logic of Lena moving in with Violet is, exactly.

Yeah, I didn't realize that at first. Is that supposed to be a comment on Dewey not knowing his sexual preference, since he is still a kid? That's a surprisingly nuanced depiction of premature sexuality, then.

I kinda thought that Lena would be taken under Beakley's wingnote , to be honest, considering she was the closest thing to a real parental figure she had aside from Magica.

I like Lena and Violet's dynamic, though.

Something I've just been thinking about; In the original TaleSpin, Kit Cloudkicker and Molly Cunningham were respectively voiced by R.J. Williams and Janna Michaels, both of which are adults now. Since both Kit and Molly are now adults in this show, I wonder if they'll have R.J. and Janna reprise their roles?

Speaking of, I wonder if they're going to have some history with Don Karnage.

It'd be fun if, like, Jim Cummings voiced Karnage's dad or something in a flashback.

Here's something interesting. What if BOYD is essentially made to be an expy of 1987 Doofus Drake? Think about it. Like Doofus in that series, and unlike Doofus in this series, he's shown to be a well meaning rich kid who's somewhat naive. Francisco Angones and Matt Youngberg aren't fond of the Doofus from that series, but I'm assuming from their perspective that they saw potential with his character archetype, and created BOYD to fill the gap.

I'm not sure Doofus was ever rich in the original. Or had a home, for that matter. The fan theory of Doofus living in the dumpster behind the manor came from somewhere. grin

On another note, since when does Lena have all of Magica's power? I don't remember seeing that in any previous episode, but that last one just sort of drops it in there without any explanation.
