[up] People handwaving plot holes and lazy writing with "it's just a cartoon (don't worry about effort not put in)" is equally annoying, only on the other side of the spectrum.

[up]Except I don't consider them as such. How can I handwave something I don't agree with?

I agree, this is getting pretty close to Complaining About People Not Liking the Show from your side.

While he's wrong to go after you not specifically liking the series, he's not wrong that many of your criticisms aren't well applied, and that contriving plot holes out of minor details (or worse, simple plot devices) is making mountains out of molehills.

As I'm understand things, I think the point kkhohoho is trying to make is that you guys are putting such an effort to trash and/or nitpick every aspect you disagree with in any way that it makes your claims to actually enjoy the show come off as lipservice or a "Just Joking" Justification, which in my own opinion weakens those very criticisms, wether they're valid or not.

As the expression goes, actions speak louder than words.

[up] The fact that we continue to invest our time in this show despite previous disappointments (I can't speak entirely for Redmess, but I certainly enjoyed the show greatly and found very few flaws with it back when it started) shows that we do have an ongoing interest and affinity for the series.

We just don't like the fact that it can't seem to live up to its own hype as of late.

Certainly, on the other hand, either of us could have just jumped ship earlier (I was definitely tempted to, but for better or worse I keep holding on to some vestige of investment). But we still keep coming back.

I don't know about anyone else, but at this point I feel that the show has peaked early.

The first six episodes were, and still are, amazing. There have been gems of great episodes spread few and far between afterwards, and I'm personally wondering why that is so.

[up][up]Pretty much. For the record, I don't mind people not liking the show. Far from it. I just wish they would be honest about it.

We're not complaining about you not liking the show, we're complaining about the unrelenting negativity and fine-toothed comb hunting for anything that disappoints you, which is everything, because it's obviously not the show you want it to be, and not going to be the show you want it to be.

I'm not trying to be negative. And I did enjoy Della as a character. Also, I write as I watch, so that might be why it looks overly scrutinized.

I write these sort of reviews on the MLP and South Park threads, too, and no one seems to have a problem with it there.

Are we seriously going to have this conversation every single episode? Like, can't we focus on the fact that the moon-mite is a mother. Like, a mother people! Doing anything she can for her kid, because she's the exact same as Della! Don't you get how unbelievably amazing that is? What a twist! (/s)

[up][up][up]In that case, maybe you could wait until the episode's over and just give a general opinion? If nothing else it probably wouldn't be as excruciatingly detailed.

One question that occurred to me: are the moon people from the old comics at all or are they unique to the cartoon?

Also do you think the moon people will be good or evil?

[up]Oh, I'm sure there's been people on the moon before, in any of the Duck comics series. There definitely were in the NES game. Though, if we're talking specifically Barks or Don Rosa, I don't think so. Plenty of other space people, though.

And yeah, they are going to be evil. Or at least antagonistic. General Niceguy was all like "We can use her" at the end there, and even gave Della a smug look behind her back. I expect that the token heroic moonperson is going to be private shootumal.

The moon people seem like pretty generic multicolored greys. From what I remember, Barks aliens are usually more unique looking than that.

It's too early to say whether or not the aliens are evil, really. I don't think that one remark is enough to decide that. It sure sounds ominous, though. Whether or not that means evil depends on how gray the show is willing to play them. I don't expect anything terribly complex from the aliens, though, so evil is probably a safe bet.

Nah, I don't think they're going for pure evil here. Like, whatever it is they want is going to bad for the people of Earth, but they'll have a pretty decent motive, or some Blue-and-Orange Morality.

If I have to make a wild guess at what the evil plan would be, it is probably to turn Earth into the moon of the Moon. They ARE very insistent about calling it planet Moon.

Which IS a bit weird, by the way. Why would the aliens call their planet "moon"? Did they learn English from Earth and decide to use our word for their world?

Nobody cares about language. Language barriers are boring logistics that get in the way of storytelling. whenever shows or movies bring it up, the protagonists will have overcome it by the end of the first episode/act. Shows that don't even pretend to bother with realism generally just skip it entirely.

They call their planet "moon" because "moon" is the word for the big rock circling earth.

So do they call Earth "moon", then? Do they refer to Earth as the moon?

Yeah, see, this is exactly why people think you're annoying. You think you're being clever, but you are actually just being pedantic.

Besides, it is the show itself that raises the question. If the Mooninites (is that their actual name, by the way?) are calling the moon a planet, then it leads the viewer to ask what, then, they call Earth? I think they did call it Earth at one point, but obviously it can't be PLANET Earth, because they clearly have a bee in their bonnet about calling the moon a planet. They are the ones having Insistent Terminology, so I ask the logical counter question: what do they call the Earth?

I honestly just figured they thought of the Earth as the satellite to their planet Moon, the same way we regard the moon as the satellite to our planet Earth.
