Where was this stated?
My bad. Checked DOA wiki and it's actually that Nicole is of Filipino descent yet is born in New Legaspi, Katagalugan, Mars.
Good on DOA for giving us that Martian representation. Truly an ignored demographic.
Eh, I think she still counts as Filipino. Calling a Mars colony New Legaspi, Katagalugan indicates it's a Philippine colony from the name alone unless stated otherwise.
Sadly we don't see her outside her armor like, ever. Not even concept art :/
For me personally, it's her design in general. It conflicts with DOA trying to be more serious (which I still think it's silly). Granted, from what I can tell she's working Donovan so I more than I welcome more antagonist characters. I'm also the guy who's cool with a white hair assasin, a runaway kunoichi & her brother whose hair are orange, a tsundere with violet hair, & busty barely legal girl that has pink hair. You tell me what to says about me.
I wish we had thumbs up feature.
Not going to lie, I kinda choke up watching that video again
We do.
The storm has now resided, the wolf now rests. For the record, I do agree with Servbot that a person of Filipino descent born into a Filipino household in a Filipino colony that is assumed to be steeped in Filipino culture should probably count as Filipino representation even if she's actually from outer space.
But she's non-canon and I'm not from the Philippines.

No I meant like upvote like positive karma points. Not that I want TV tropes be more like Reddit (god no) it just one of those situation i would have like to give good reps points
So I plugged Last Round in again to practice in preparation.
I think I'm gonna pick up Lisa for awhile. Tina's always been my go-to grappler, but Lisa has way more flash.
I feel like anyone who mains a male character besides maybe Ryu or Zack is missing the point of the franchise.
People have noted that they've wanted characters like Tifa as a Guest Character and she'd be a perfect fit but I wonder who Nintendo would give them. Samus appeared in the background of Dimensions so I guess that already counts. Maybe they'd use a Fire Emblem waifu like Camilla. Hey, if Rachel can drop her giant axe so can she.

I like Tina because she's a confident busty amazon who suplexes ninjas/cyborgs/soldiers/etc. Her outfits are cool too.
I like Lisa for the same reasons haha, plus her fighting style is legit cool. Capoeria and lucha libre? That's like, x-tier stylin lol.
Come to think of it kokoro and honoka are the only females I outright dislike. Oh and alpha-152 of course but that goes without saying.
I gotta say I like the shared universe DOA, ninja gaiden and Nioh share haha. I got so hype seeing Muramasa in Nioh(or his great great whatever who looks exactly like him...I like to believe they're the same person and muramasa is like, super duper old.

It's a definite possibility that Muramasa is Really 700 Years Old given "Old looking guy who is actually even older." is a trope going back to Master Roshi and continuing in works like Bravely Default even today.
It's hard not to like Lisa given she's a brilliant scientist who moonlights as a luchadore. It's such delicious dissonance. I like that they went the extra mile and gave her different intros and outros depending on whether you where "Lisa" or "La Mariposa". You really get the feeling that she dresses up in a silly costume and hams it up as a form of stress relief considering how composed she is in casual wear. XD
I kind of dislike Honoka by default considering she's literally just a different girl's character model with bigger boobs and she steals all her moves from better fighters. That said I don't hate her as much as I probably should.
I mean, I can understand if a character is divisive, but...
...If a character isn't deliberately made out to be a hate sink or otherwise meant to be detested by the audience, then you shouldn't hate them just because they aren't suited to your tastes. Or at least that's how I view it. I'd rather hate the characters like Raidou who are meant to be despicable than someone like Honoka, whose only "sin", that I can see, is being a very stereotypical moeblob who happens to be a headswap of another moeblob (a characteristic that I wouldn't have known about if people didn't mention it as often as they have).
I'm not saying that I don't get the dislike of Honoka or other characters (I'm mostly indifferent to her since I hardly know her, but I do find her Power Copying ability to be very intriguing, if only because it's the same thing Raidou can do but attached to someone that isn't vile), but the idea of just hating something just because it doesn't appeal to me or has annoying/undesirable/unfortunate characteristics is bizarre to me. If it bothered me that much, then the most I could muster would be apathy or indifference.
I mean... it could just be me though? I tend to always look at characters through both a meta and In-Universe lens, and that generally colors my perspective on them. So if a character is generally friendly or nice or whatever, I'm not going to heavily lampoon them for the traits that they have that I would find problematic, unless those traits happen to clash in some fashion.
Anyways, Lisa is a character I've been underappreciating I think. I don't think I bothered with her that much once she joined the main fighters after she debuted in XBV, but seeing her come back in 6 was more exciting to me than seeing Kokoro and Hitomi again. Once I get around to playing Dimensions and Last Round, I think I'm going to put more effort into learning her than I did before.
You know, I'm wondering if in hindsight it would have been better to leave Ryu out of DOA (at least as a playable character) and Mugen Tenshin siblings' as DOA's sole ninjas. He never really seems to do anything of note in these games and it honestly feels like DOATEC is too minuscule to be on his radar.
He's the one who killed tengu in the 2nd game though. Not to mention the number of times he's aided(and once even slapped lol) kasumi/hayate and was also among the ninja who assaulted the HQ in 4. He had muramasa keep real kasumi safe during 5 too. Even if he isn't the sole focus, he still puts in his work during his stint in DOA. Considering he's among if not the strongest character in the roster, it makes sense not to have him be the major focus otherwise he'd steal the show.
Hayabusa's beef with DOATEC comes down to their relationship with the mugen tenshin clan, whom he's friends with, as well as them being pretty evil which of course ryu is all about fighting.

Come on guys... Fandoms are known for being irrational.
They hate Elliot for the sin of... being attracted to beautiful women cause thats a threat to their Giant Lesbian orgy!
"HOW DARE HE BRING HETEROSEXUALITY INTO THE GAME! KILL HIM!"
I like Playing Ryu, Ein/Hayate, Elliot and Bayman
Kasumi, Helena and Hitomi
I main Hitomi. Probably because shes easy to use. But really like that she one of the more physically direct female fighters in the game

Macron's notesMy mains were mostly Helena and Kasumi, followed by Tina, Leifang, Jann, Ayane, and Zack.
I saw "were", because I started Dimensions and realized that I've severely out of practice, so now I'm basically a newbie again. Not sure if that'll affect who I'll use.
On Ryu, he was actually the main reason I got into the series. Even back then, I really loved crossovers, and thought the games were just the name of his fighting series, cause I believed he was the main character.
Then he turned out to be hard for me to use, so I ended up gravitating towards Kasumi in the end. Still, he was always a big influence on me as a fan of Ninja Gaiden. And I was pretty happy when they rebooted that series and had it tie into the DOA games, though I've only played and beaten the first game and Dragon Sword.
"A long-awaited battle is coming..."
Expect this to get announced at The Game Awards next week.
Final Fantasy vs Dead or Alive
x8 I can hate a character in fiction even if they'd be a decent person I'd want to hang out with IRL because they can drag down the story. Usually this happens with me with lead characters; the boring ones with normalized personalities that take all the screentime from the fun secondary cast.
Honoka is just lazy, being a generic schoolgirl with a recycled model and moves and yet is extremely popular and I guess I resent her for that. Not as much as I hate Naotora, but that's baggage from Samurai Warriors.
x7 Ryu Hayabusa is the mentor figure of the game, the overpowered superninja who only steps in when he absolutely has to. It's as decent a niche as any has so far. The problem with him, in my eyes, is that he's yet to do what mentors are supposed to do; get defeated by a Big Bad to raise the stakes and force the younger heroes to step up. So so far he's basically just a problem solving button for seven games.
x5 To be fair anything that threatens the existence of a lesbian orgy really should be detested. Actually, speaking of Eliot, why doesn't he have a crossdressing costume yet? Is that not something his fans want to see?
Probably another Warriors game.
Main characters I have played as are currently Kasumi, Phase 4 Marie and Ryu Hayabusa.
I don't think I have it in me to hate a character for design reasons. I more just feel meh about characters like that. Especially since honoka's not exactly an important character and is more a side character.

From the Philippines, apparently.
