General Nintendo thread

I played SMB 3 last night (beat Ice Land, now onto Pipe Land). Isn't there something from the NES Mario games that's been discovered with these leaks as of yet? That whole Mario 64 thing is nice, but it surely can't be the only new thing, right?

I think I saw some Yoshi's Cookie beta elements, but I think the only other NES elements were SMW beta placeholders.

Wasn't the Super Mario Bros. source code found in Super Mario All Stars?

Square Enix looks like they're trying to combine Mario and Psychonauts

A trailer for a game called Embracelet was released earlier today. It seems to be a "coming-of-age" story set in Northern Norway, where a boy gets a magical bracelet. It's slated to be released some time in September 2020.

So that's the game Nintendo plans to call it a day with during September. Sounds legit.

Still nothing for August, though. I hope they come off with something bigger in October, but I'm no longer holding my hopes up.

We get it, you don't like how Nintendo's handling their announcements. Stop reminding us every five seconds.

Fair enough. I just hope Nintendo finally breaks their silence in regards of their mainline plans for this year, because the seventh month is already concluding, and in all previous years it was the time by which we knew what to expect for Holidays.

We are still in the middle of a fucking pandemic. Its not gonna be like previous years, and you have to accept that, please. Its really insensitive on your part to demand things from Nintendo like that.

Please let's not make a five-page debate out of this.

I'm reading through a ResetEra thread about the leaks and holy shit all this stuff is so fascinating!

Seems like the nineties were a much cruder time considering there's a sprite where Luigi flips the player off

The leak also revealed an unused beach area for Ocarina of Time (and it's likely that area was later repurposed for Majora's Mask as Great Bay).

I will say what I’ve been saying for the past few months:

When things have gotten to the point where a leak of 25 year old prototypes/source codes feels like the most notable Nintendo news in a while, that's a bit telling.

As far as the fan response to Nintendo as of late it does expose the weakness of the Direct buzz model. When that stops being viewed as reliable or consistent, then a patient trust in what's to come can quickly turn to annoyed disdain at the company for (at least in the minds of some consumers) cutting the line of major communication too significantly and without enough reason. You live by the hype, you die by the hype.

I guess I just don’t mind the lack of news.

I also think that we are in the perfect time to play through our backlogs and collect.

Essentially, I’m not frustrated at the lack of news BECAUSE I understand that everything is weird right now.

In the interest of moving on:

Why do you think the beach area in OOT got removed? To save space on the cart?

A lot of Ocarina's development feels very experimental, to the point where the nature of what the game was likely changed several times. Even Hyrule Field is believed to be been largely put together after the creation of Epona.

It wouldn't surprise me if the beach probably served a much more critical part in a previous focus, only to possibly lose relevance or purpose once the game got closer to its final form.

Oh there used to be a beach area in Oo T? That's a new one.

I guess that explains Great Bay in Majora now, they liked that idea a lot and wanted to still use it somewhere.

Perhaps it was the original area for Zora's Domain, but they changed it to that cave-ish area to contrast with Death Mountain and Kokiri Forest.

I think they also found a scrapped archery area in Majora's Mask Great Bay, didn't they?

a beach makes sense considering that huge lake would have to be fed from somewhere, where's else but the ocean?

There is speculation that the core hub would by Hyrule Castle with various regions/areas then accessible from it ala Mario 64 and the paintings.

This recent leaked image suggests there could be some credence to that, given the layout seen
