"Not wanting to take market share from Animal Crossing" has instead resulted in Nintendo having seemingly nothing for 2020.

Also, running out of time for Q1 period.

That seems kind of a strange justification to me.

Animal Crossing doesn't seem to be the type of game that would eat into the sales of other games very much.

Can be the opposite, they don't want that another game eats Animal Crossing Sales.

Nintendo just teased a Mario x LEGO collaboration today for Mario Day.

The reason I bring it up is GAME (the videogame store in the UK) mentioned on their official website that the Mario LEGO collaboration was announced in a Direct before it got removed. Archive.

If this isn't a mistake, I would suspect that there is a possible LEGO Adaptation Game alongside LEGO sets incoming and it will be announced in a Direct.

I'd joke that LEGO is bringing back LEGO Dimensions as a Switch exclusive, but in light of how a LEGO set based on Sonic Mania getting looked at at the moment (yes, really), I say...

Man, I wouldn't mind a LEGO Dimensions remake, particularly if they ironed out some of the many crashing issues that game had.

I'll admit, the Lego adaptation games were never the most stable of builds, but Lego Dimensions has some of the worst stability I had ever seen. I've seen that game hang, fail to trigger flags, and downright crash so many times. My child and I had been playing it together, and we eventually just gave up because it kept screwing up so many times. Ironically, the emulation aspects were great, and I never had any issues with any of the Midway games included.

I know it's still only a bit after lunchtime on the west coast, plus Seattle-based NOA has bigger concerns at the moment, but the lack of news beyond a Twitter post on Mario and Lego is driving me batty.

It is almost 6 am in Japan so a Direct announcement could be incoming. Animal Crossing's announcement was also almost around the same time (well, before daylight savings time started).

I'm double posting because two major rumors came out after I posted the above:

Venture Beat rumor: Indie World next week, general Direct the week after.

Multiple sources are claiming E3 2020 is getting canceled, including Devolver Digital, Kotaku's Jason Schreier, and Arstechnia.

[up]The Venture Beat article at least is based on some more believable sourcing, so I'm OK with trusting it more than any other rumor.

Even without the rumors the chance of a Direct before the month is out is very high. The fiscal year is almost over and we don't know anything of Nintendo's release schedule past Animal Crossing. The investors probably want some insurance by the time Nintendo releases their yearly report.

Up until last night, I had this gut feeling that Nintendo wouldn't show any general Direct until E3, considering that they hadn't made any announcements in the Game Awards, nor in the Switch's 3rd birthday or in Mario's Day. I had watched many videos from people trying to play divination by trying to predict which day the Direct would pop up, to the point I downvoted each and every video.

Upon the imminent cancellation of E3 (not sure if it's official yet, though), I just have no idea when, if at all, the Direct will come out. The latest video joining the divination game suggests March 26th, but,... ehh.

I'm sure an Indie presentation if it happens will have some good stuff, but if they have that before a general Direct after this long a drought, then the former is being sent out to die. PR wise it feels like it makes more sense to do the latter first and then showcase the smaller games a week after, or at the very least announce the dates of both ahead of time so fans can know a major presentation is in fact coming.

Yeah, the rumors of Indies > Direct makes me think that it might feel a bit lackluster the week between. If the rumors of the timeline are true.

But from what I've heard the investor deadline with Q1 is the end of March.

So maybe they want to end the month with a positive buzz.

Because any rumblings of discontent after the first one will likely be drowned out by the Direct if it has 2-3 killer announcements.

I don't know, if we have Silksong news at the Indie direct, I will consider that direct successful. If not though... (I know I'm probably putting way too much stock in one game).

E3 2020 has been officially cancelled.

[up][up] This week will be the dead week. Next week will be both Indie World and Animal Crossing and the month will be supposedly rounded out by a general Direct.

[up] It should be pointed out that the ESA is still planning on coordinating digital events in June, likely to keep that E3 feel of it being gaming's Christmas.
