General Nintendo thread

Okay so, some official gaming news sites seem to be confused. I've seen the video presentation for Hero in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate being referred to as a "Nintendo Direct", despite the original announcement never clarifying it as such.

Just saw the video and, yep, it's not a Nintendo Direct. Don't know where that confusion came from. Maybe because Nintendo Directs are what Nintendo's mostly known for in terms of uploading videos with info about games?

Yeah, that's pretty much why. I don't think they do this kind of thing often outside of Treehouse.

I think part of it is just that people are kinda used to calling all "Nintendo is revealing a thing via a stream or other short video" a "Direct" by default — and part is because Sakurai does mention Directs early on, at least in the translation given for the video, in such a way that I think it caused people to think that it was an example of one, basically.

The Game Boy launched in North America 30 years ago today.

And in bad news: Nintendo has been hitting Youtube channels with their music uploaded hard with copyright strikes to the point that BrawlBTSMs has been killed off and GilvaSunner has been flooded with them as well.

Even though first-party games have been having sound tests recently, I still don't want to use my Switch as a music player, especially since I don't want to upgrade my launch Switch's battery.

I really, really hope Nintendo will start putting their music up on places where they can sell them.

You and me both. I really want to have their soundtracks just on my computer library.

Nintendo: You play our games for music and that is it.

They do typically have soundtracks available, but if they're not anywhere digital, the only legal way to get them is to buy imported copies. I don't know if they sell physical copies outside of Japan, and if they do, I have no idea where you'd buy them.

Some of their stuff is available digitally, though. I know they've been putting the Pokemon soundtracks on iTunes for several years now.

Indie World presentation, August 19th at 6 am PDT.

In Europe, the 3DS and Wii U eShops will no longer accept credit cards as of September 2019.

From what I understand, an EU Directive requiring Two Factor Authentication for all digital payments comes into effect on September 14th and Nintendo likely doesn't want to update a dead/dying storefront.

My one hope for the Direct would be a mention of the Puyo Puyo Champions update shadowdropping right after the Direct.

ACTUAL CONTENT IN THIS GAME! HELL YEAH!

Personally hoping for (unlikely as some might be):

• Information on Shin Megami Tensei V
• Whatever the Etrian Odyssey people are working on
• More info on that goose game
• A release date for the localization of Yo Kai Watch 4
• Information on Fire Emblem: Three Houses DLC

More info on the goose game: You can make the goose wear a hat. That is all.

Untitled Goose Game got a release date trailer recently. I don't expect it to be here. Maybe as part of a sizzle reel.

Also, Monolith Soft's Soraya Saga retweeted the Direct notifications from three of the main Nintendo Twitter accounts. She only does this when a Monolith Soft developed game will be apart of the Direct.

In that case I'm expecting them to announce the title of the Breath of the Wild sequel.

What position does Soraya Saga hold at Monolith?

Not sure how likely it'd happen, but if they could put Kirby: Triple Deluxe, Planet Robobot and A Link Between Worlds onto the Switch, it'd be enough to convince me to forget the 3DS altogether and fully commit to the Switch.

She is the wife of Monolith Soft's head, Tetsuya Takahashi. She is also an illustrator, writer, and designer there.

I'm not sure if you are joking or not, but Soraya Saga herself mentioned, after she was asked after E3 2019, she would only retweet Direct's if it's a Monolith Soft made game, not something they helped on.

Thanks; I was primarily asking because Monolith has like 5 different teams all working on separate things, so I was hoping to narrow down what it could be.

Xenoblade 2 came out in 2017, X came out in 2015. Assuming this: we should be getting X2 next year, but it could also be their new IP.

That port of X1 everyone kinda wants would be a nice surprise too.

Could be any of those things. I'm not expecting anything specific (although my personal preference would be a new IP), but I'm looking forward to seeing what it is.

Didn't the director of Xenoblade Chronicles X say a port wasn't happening because it was too expensive?
