I want decent swordplay in my medieval fantasy game.

I wouldn't mind a Dishonored style Blink.

[up][up] What? You don't like flailing your sword around and hoping it hits something?

I dunno, for some reason this power fantasy doesn't feel very empowering when my great god-like hero figure goes around flailing their weapon like it's a pool noodle.

Then just download more mods. If the game ain't broken, it ain't modded enough.

That does seem to be Bethesda's approach, though. Why implement anything well? Just implement the groundwork, and let the modders take care of it all!

And then ban them and make them write an essay about how wrong it is to make mods to fix games!

Wait, no, wrong thread. Sorry. It's an easy target.

Seriously though, yeah, that's their approach alright. Personally, I've never been one for mods like that. The only one I had for Skyrim was a mod that changed the lighting to make it more realistic.

So, back on my laptop, I had well over 100 mods running on my version of Skryim. From the small ones (posh mudcrabs) to the grandiose (unofficial patch, Tamriel Enhanced), all working well, and not tripping over its own feet too badly.

However, now I have a much more powerful computer, and any attempt at loading Oldrim with those same mods always results in crashing. Not really sure why, and any attempt at error logging never goes anywhere.

But I love gaming with mods. One of the big reasons I'm hyped for Starfield is because just think of all of the Star Wars mods that will come out for that game!

I hear that the horses in Skyrim were modified Power Armor suits. And that ridable dragons were modified Vertibirds. I heard that fallout guns are enchanted melee weapons under the hood.

[up]x4 check the .ini file of the game and make sure it matches with your system. Had a little funny moment spending THREE hours wondering what mod broke the game before finding that.

It's not like we have much to talk about. The last time this game had any news was that short teaser during E3.

[up][up][up] I'm on Windows 10 64-bit, but no word on mi .ini file. Apparently a lot of people had trouble with this after upgrading to a more powerful PC and Windows 10.

sorry, I ate the operative word there. Check the LANGUAGE of your .ini match the one of your computer.

Still can't believie the entire game crashed because of that.

I don't know about horses/powered armor, but vertibirds in Fallout 4 blatantly have the same flight patterns as Skyrim dragons. Likewise, it's very obvious that the legendary weapons are using the Skyrim enchantment system, just using preset enchantments that you can't change.

Hey am I nuts or is there no Video Games > Skyrim thread?

I wanted to announce that

1) Skyrim on the Switch is smoother, more stable than it ever was on either of my computers and that pisses me off so bad

2) I spent a few days (like, actual days not in game RIP sleep) doing the Fortify Restoration exploit and then I smithed a sword that deals 900 BASE DAMAGE oh god what have i done.

You know that thing that giants do? The Skyrim Space Program? I can do that now.

[up]No, I mean, that the only reason they made dragons ridable is because Fallout 4 was in development and they reverse engineered the Brotherhood Vertibirds (Because those have to have passengers) to make the flyable dragons.

As much as people say "why can't they make the game look as good as the mods do from the get-go", has anyone actually paid attention to what sort of hardware is required to run a modded setup? Game devs have to find a compromise between high-quality graphics, compatibility with lower-end machines to be accessible to a wider customer base, and budget/time constraints. And Skyrim still looks pretty good. Sure it's not Crysis 3 or whatever, but in my opinion games have been hitting a plateau lately with graphics where a minor improvement that's barely even noticeable demands way more in terms of processing power. I'd rather they focus on fixing the technical issues with the engine rather than trying to upgrade the graphics.

On terms of what I'm hoping for with TESVI. I want Oblivion-style Dark Brotherhood quests again. They were great. Whodunit? is still one of my favorite quests of the entire franchise.

The Fallout 4 High Resolution texture pack literally doubles the size of the game, and a side-by-side comparison nets a barely noticeable difference. I think Moore's Law is going to have to advance us a few more years before we can breach the diminishing returns of finer and finer textures.

[up][up][up]There is an Elder Scrolls General thread. Weird that there isn't a specific Skyrim one, though, I'll agree to that.

So unless ES VI turns out to be best one in the series(or at least much more lore respectful and better plot and quest wise than most of the games so far :P), I kinda hope after it is released people will finally stop buying into Bethesda hype. I'm just so tired of "Skyrim is one of best rpgs ever!" opinions that floated around when it was released <_<

[up]x6 eeeeeeeeeeeeeh, I'm not seeing it. Sure, you can mod skyrim until you need a war machine to run it at 15 fps if you fuck it up hard enough, but it doesn't take that much to runs modded skyrims that looks far better than what the game looks like. plus, considering they're re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-releasing it on every support under the sun, you'd think something like the ps4pro would be able to handle a bit more than vanilla skyrim HD.

The game wasn't bad for the standards of its release, but said release was almost a decade ago now. I could buy that they do not want to continually update the PC version, but since they're releasing the game on every platform under the sun just in case you haven't played the game already, it doesn't strike me as unreasonable to ask them to at least upscale the textures and implement the easiest fixes made by mods while they're doing so.

[up][up]After Fallout 76, I don't think Bethesda hype is a thing anyone needs to be concerned about for a while. But it would be nice to see people tone down the Skyrim adoration, yes.
