Volume 15:

• So Yugi vs. Jonouchi was an anime addition. That makes sense, but I feel like I’ve been lied to my entire life.

• Pegasus is giving off some “I’m not angry, I’m just disappointed” vibes here. Not that it saves Keith either way.

• Apparently so Honda, but you should definitely say something.

• Not sure why they’re surprised by that, it would have been surprising if Pegasus didn’t plan on trapping Yugi’s soul.

• I mean technically Skull Demon isn’t a traitor since it’s just Doppelganger copying it. Justice For Summoned Skull!

• Thinking about it, the encounter with Shadi would have been a hint for the Mind Shuffle.

• Little Yugi finally getting a chance to shine.

• Fully admit he is useless at times, but Little Yugi is certainly putting in the effort here.

• Hooray for friendship.

• Getting really tired of people shitting on Kuriboh. -_-

• Press F for Kuriboh. Putting in the ace monster work without any of the ace monster respect.

• Not sure why the Big Five had everything riding on a children’s card game. After Death-T they probably could have found a legal way to oust Kaiba and partnered with Pegasus.

• It’s not hard to feel bad for Pegasus. Even his minions seem to take the defeat in stride.

• Okay, that was some serious whiplash. Damn, really feel like Pegasus deserve a bit better. At least he’s with Cyndia now.

• Wait, how were they supposed to get home?

IIRC, it was a strange sort of gamer's-honor thing that motivated the Big Five. A good part of Kaiba's reputation came from his being the proverbial god of Duel Monsters... until a certain very public and humiliating loss, anyway. Thus one of the terms of the Five selling their shares to Pegasus was that he prove better than the guy who's better than Kaiba.

This is the last we see of them in the manga, too - they all get fired off-panel after this. Them being so much as differentiated as individuals was all in the anime. No PENGUINS PENGUINS PENGUINS! for you, unfortunately.

gamer's honor? Okay they didn't seem the type to be that dedicated (especially when this was where the importance of the game wasn't quite at the level it would be in later stories).

Kaiba's introduction was as the unbeatable gamer at an arcade right? Or was that Mokuba?

Either way, Kaiba's rep as the World Champion of Duel Monsters and other games drives 90% of the Kaiba Corp stuff, whether you're talking about anime filler or not.

Assuming I’m remembering right, Kaiba was introduced as a Magic & Wizards champ then started the transition to gaming god the chapter before Death-T.

• I'd these conversations between Yugi and Yami would be unnerving to anyone on the outside.

• Oh look, Yugi's mom. Also immediately proven right.

• "I heard he met my dead grandmother on his way back...", too bad this is unimportant because I'm curious about this.

• Black Crown/Clown

• Yeah, this is on Jonouchi for taking obvious bait.

• At least he got save quickly and didn't get stuck in a dog costume.

• Not sure how people can get hyped over something when they have no idea what it is.

• Instant Sympathy, Just Add Abuse (does not apply to all characters)

• Gramps definitely seemed like a BAMF during the old days.

• Helicopter parents are the worst.

• "I guess I'll have to do the king's dirty work again...", wait was this the first suggestion Yami was the Pharaoh?

• In a different story I'd joke that Bakura was being a Violently Protective Boyfriend here.

• Ryuji is tired on his dad's shit, at least he's proving he's not a complete dick.

• Oh cool, someone finally figured out Bakura is being possessed again. And all it took was Yami Bakura revealing himself.

• And that chain comes back to bite him.

• Actually don't think fire would be enough to destroy the puzzle.

• Can make out Exodia and Summoned Skull on the first palette, can't figure out the others.

• Is people getting weirded out by Yugi talking to himself a running gag?

• Them playing wingman for each other is really nice.

• The two boys really are the same at their cores.

• Yami didn't plan on taking any cards?

• Wonder how Jonouchi would have fared against someone other than the Exodia Ghoul.

It's always weird to me that the anime replaced Ryugi's father with Bandit Keith.

The Dungeon Dice Monsters game gave Duke's father the best Punny Name ever: Sindin the Clown. (If you don't get it try saying it out loud.)

Volume 18:

• The Ghouls might be defunct after Battle City, but I hope Kaiba improved his counterfeit detection software.

• I get Mai (and Jonouchi), but I don’t remember Yugi doing diddly-squat to Ryuzaki.

• So either Time Wizard doesn’t count as rare in the Rare Hunters’ eyes or Kaiba Corp’s database isn’t that extensive. Which probably means Jonouchi wasn’t Level 2 just because Kaiba decided to be a dick.

• Can understand Honor Before Reason (to a degree), however it would be funny to me if Yami lost because he refused to let Jonouchi warn him.

• That was quick.

• The little dance got a chuckle out of me.

• And I just realized Ishizu didn’t bother to tell Yami about the God cards.

• So unless the translation is different from the original here then Jonouchi didn’t need to beat Yugi to get back Red-Eyes, he just needed to battle him as a “true duelist”.

• Wait, is this the first time some acknowledged Pegasus was dead?

• Why does this idiot (the guy Kaiba sicced Obelisk on at the start of Battle City) look familiar?

• Well if Kaiba was going to swing his dick at someone, at least it was an Asshole Victim. Though looks like the other caught a bit of it as well seeing as he tore up his own card.

• Wonder how many other people have “entertained” Marik.

• So remember the story here (or at least part of it), not sure Marik specified “Yugi Mutou” as his father’s killer.

• Once again confirming Jonouchi didn’t need to beat Yugi. Not sure why people kept insisting he did.

• Given Yami’s deduction, it’s looking like the matches during Duelist Kingdom aren’t common knowledge. Which actually makes sense considering how Pegasus handled the tournament.

• It’s been useful, but I think you’re overselling Dark Magician rep when it comes to Yugi’s victories.

• Thinking about it, does Alt. Dark Magician ever appear again after this duel?

Duel Links just had a really deep cut for an icon of the Capsule Monster Ninja Squid.

Of course, that reasoning implodes when you take note he could have used Tristan instead of Mokuba, but I simply don't think he's saying that Tristan isn't a main character (because he is).

There are lots of reasons for why he chose who he did for the picture.

Mai also promotes the Harpie Lady archtype, so she’s given a bit more billing as is than what you would expect for a secondary character.

...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.

What's even sadder is that the fanart I posted is clearly based on Yu Gi Oh The Darkside Of Dimensions based on Mokuba's haircut and Anzu's ponytail, and Mai doesn't even appear in that movie! They deliberately chose to draw Mai in the style of a movie she didn't even show up in rather than draw someone who did show up in it.

Haven’t read that far, and I’m not trusting my memories of the anime.

Breaking down my views of them.

• Yugi (Yami): Not a fighter, however he loves coming up with creative ways to hurt people.

• Joey: Scrappy brawler. Hotheadedness gets him in trouble, though recurring moments of guile.

• Tristan: That guy from the action flick that everyone knows isn’t important (including himself), as a result he jumps at the chance to do cool action flick stuff. However this ain’t that type of manga, as a result he’s normally stuck on the sideline.
