I actually loved Detective Despin the best.

Coach Genghis and Gunther tie for second.

Also why is Olaf so obsessed with the Baudelaires?

Esme points out that she's already rich.

Because he hates the Baudalaires personally and wants to steal their money to make them suffer.

Detective Dupin is underrated, yes, and probably my favorite of his disguises.

Didn't care much for him in the original book, but it's the sort of thing that works a lot better in visual and audio format than textual, I suppose. The addition of the scatting also helps.

Season Three trailer:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0DNuz3rt7g

I think the release date should have been a day earlier. Then it would be the end of the show on the end of the year.

That scene at the end with Lemony meeting the Baudelaires is probably a trick like Mother and Father from the first season, but I think its also possible that its the show's version of the "mysterious cab driver who may or may not be Lemony Snicket tries to save them but they don't go with him" scene.

The Woman with Hair but no Beard's hair having its own mustache is one of those great touches to make the visual gag of the duo even greater.

Given the cab, I'm thinking that this is their take on that cab driver scene.

Also I hope the visual format means I can finally figure out which Denouement is talking at any given moment.

Ooh, I love how they did the man with beard but no hair and the woman with hair but no beard. That always seemed like kind of a useless descriptor, since most women have no beard, (which may have been the joke in the book, that it was overly flowery for something kind of plain, but that kind of wordplay doesn't translate the best to a visual medium). The way the hair is designed, it draws attention to the parallels between the hair on top and the hair on bottom, which is a good way to translate that.

Yeah, add me to the list of people who love how they did the hair-beard thing.

I wonder if they'll expand the length of the episodes, since the last 4 books had a lot going on.

I don't think so, they're already pretty long hours to sit through in one session.

I COULD see them expanding The End into a three-episode segment maybe if they want to stretch the finale out. Honestly, though, even that feels unnecessary. Even the adaptations of the Hostile Hospital and Carnivorous Carnival have plenty of filler to bring the runtime up to about two hours.

Funnily enough, it's been confirmed "The End" will only be one episode.

Unless they either just merged the whole thing into one episode and damn the runtime?

Or maybe they reworked the ending? Becasuse I've yet to meet anyone who likes the ending?

I've also heard it's going to be a super long last episode to compensate.

I could see "The End" being a single episode that's extra long since it's the series finale.

It's not like Netflix have to fit their shows into a specific time slot. They can easily turn "The End" into a small movie, hence making the last season as long as the other two in terms of watching time, without the need to chop the story awkwardly up.

Okay, the final go is up and I'm currently watching The Slippery Slope, which also happens to be my favorite of the books.

Part I:

So far, with Part I, I'm really liking what they're doing with Hooky and the should be dead ambiguous gendered one. Hooky seems to be taking up the role of the two women twins with the Lima Syndrome, which Lemony Snicket here egregiously, a word which here means "completely falsely" forgot and decided to call Mt. Fraught Syndrome...and given how high up Peru's mountains are, I think that was a missed moment. And the Ambiguous One is somewhere between Audience Surrogate and Cloud Cuckoo Lander right now.

Also the best use of Mr. Poe [whom I feared would replace Bruce, he's thankfully a one-note gag in a filler side plot], "The Freaks" (whom kinda disappeared as they came), and general filler yet [The Freaks, Kit Snicket's side story, Mr. Poe + Ms. Bass, etc.]. Also another

I also like how they did away with the list of ingredients as a means to stop the falling caravan, and lucked out on the drag chute hitting a snag.

We all liked how The Man with a Beard but No Hair, and Woman with Hair but No Beard turned out aesthetically, but the performances they give are somehow even better. And the way they bounce of off Neil Patrick Harris...it's really got to be seen to be believed.

Well, f*(k, even with a Lampshade Hanging, I'm still not impressed with Mr. Poe's random appearance on the mountain just when it looked like the writers were doing something right with him...well besides kicking him out of the books until the 11th anyway.

Part II

Okay, the evil henchpeople threw some nice shade at Olaf. Mr. Poe is still vestigial, so f*(k him, unless he ends up on the island and f*9king dies...The backstory divulgence into Olaf is really quite something

G*dammit Snicket, the little literary Kissing Discretion Shot was annoying in the book, why bring it back?

But that's okay, little Presley Smith as Sunny combined with the dubbing is even better than before, created one of the most touching moments at the top.

Nice Parsley Soda Brick Joke

-Hattie- Lucy Punch's Esme is a knock-out too, even with a good Jerkass Has a Point speech...oh hell, so's Carmelita. Man, I just hated hated them and was just so happy to see them gone in the books, but here, I'm going to be genuinely sad.

Clearly the VFD have not heard of Controlled Burns to prevent worse fires. Should've ransomed Esme honestly

Well, looks like the powdered ladies played their part as the book, but I appreciate the Lampshade Hanging on how little characterization they got. But Hooky's turn would've been better, and allowed a bit more creativity. Also loved how Olaf clearly didn't want to make that order in the first place. Oh, and it looks like the two] henchies that should've died get to walk off with the ladies too. I would've preferred Baldy still died because he did nothing anyway. Still it fits with the whole "Olaf's at his peak" theme much better than the more subtle trickle in the books.

Quigley being left behind because of a branch is really lame, the separate tributary on a melting a running river was a much better event. Then again, Quigley himself was very underwhelming.

On the bright side all the kiddos being kidnapped was given a much better scope, and added more to the world rather than feeling like a one-off.

Okay, onto The Grim Grotto, but so far, this is the strongest episode batch [I liked Part I a bit more than II] by every measure, but it also had the best source material, which was the peak, and this makes me nervous.

So, Grim Grotto....now ~plays episode~

I am through and, well, the ending really confused me. I kind of...don't get it? Nothing about the backstory makes sense, but above all, there are so many loose ends…the series pretends to wrap everything up, but it really doesn't.
