I was wondering if there are any fellow Nightcore fans on here. For those who don't know, Nightcore is simply making a song faster and high-pitched. Yup. That's all.

I'm also getting kind of sick of people for bashing Nightcore for...being simple? I mean yeah everyone can do it, I fail to see the problem with that...and honestly, I have never ever seen a person calling themselves "talented" or even an artist at all for making Nightcore, I mean we're all aware that this doesn't even take 5 mins in audacity. But if I had a dollar for every time I saw somebody complain about that...

Kanye West was making Nightcore before Nightcore was cool.

On a serious note, I dislike how some people equate Vaporwave with Nightcore, as if all you're doing is slowing down a whole song. Vaporwave often involves slowing down sections of songs and then looping them and chopping them a bit. Nightcore is just speeding up a song.

That said, this did make me laugh.

Also there's a Nightcore album available to buy on iTunes, and presumably there are more just like it.

Well, if I remember correctly, Nightcore certainly used to be an actual remix (techno elements, I think), but somewhere along the line this information was lost, and the definition changed. But I wouldn't want to speak too firmly on the subject.

The use of anime images has always been baffling, but I guess there's no use trying to apply logic to traditions. Ah, it's probably just otaku bait. wink

Nightcore does sound like it should be a subgenre of Trance.

I'm not sure if you're trolling here because it's a wide known fact on the internet that many Nightcore fans (not me though) get mad if you call Nightcore Trance...Trance fans actually do call it Happy Hardcore as far as I know. I've never been to good with genres...

I was just going off Urban Dictionary (not the most reliable of sources, of course), which describes it as originating from Trance. For whatever that's worth. c[:

That said, Nightcore isn't what I'd usually call a genre, rather by my personal definitions a popular edit, so I wouldn't think of comparing it with genres or associating it with Trance. To me Nightcore songs are the genre of the original, albeit sped up.

...

Who's willing to bet that somewhere down the line someone will eventually release an album of nightcore vaporwave that's actually just a compilation of shitty 90s rnb and elevator music ?

[up]I'd kinda like for that to not happen.

Anyways, I was talking about the name. From the name "Nightcore" I imagine a bunch of dark, fast-tempo Trance track with piano, strings, and saw waves everywhere, not... sped-up songs.

I kinda find Nightcore a guilty pleasure of mine. I only find it good for remixing mainstream pop songs though; anything else is more likely to sound worse than the original.

At some point, I dropped the guilty and just hoped that people wouldn't throw me in with some kids who think they're special or artsy for listening to Nightcore...

Question: what does Nightcore have to do with anime? All these Nightcore videos on YouTube have pictures of anime girls on them.

Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.

I have NO idea, I guess it just sort of started being a thing? Maybe because Nightcore sounds a bit like Vocaloids at times...

Nightcore is simply making a song faster and high-pitched.

So, basically, there's a supposed subgenre that is based around what Neu! did on their second album?

Yeah, I don't see this kind of thing lasting long.

I dunno. I kinda like it. The anime pictures usually relate to the song, which is good.

[up]It's been around for like 5 or more years already.

Besides, even its trope page says it's more of a phenomenon than a genre.

Yeah, you can't really make a genre out of "fast and high-pitched" especially since this can range from "it sounds like someone with a rather high voice and it's sorta upbeat" over "is this a kid singing or is this Vocaloid" to "chipmunks sing along to a beat faster than you can count"

Nightcore started with Thomas S. Nilsen and Steffen Ojala Søderholm, who did a couple albums of the sped-up remixes as a 2002 school project under the name Nightcore. Someone came across them and uploaded their stuff online, it spread, and people started imitating it.

I've tried to get into Nightcore - you're always seeing people on Youtube drool over it and they always appear in my search results - but I just don't get it. How are they any different from all those "Chipmunked" songs? I've only heard one or two nightcore songs that I prefer over the original.

Nightcore = song is sped up. Chipmunk = song is pitched up, speed is unchanged.

'Not really hearing it. They sound slightly less chipmunky but the pitch is still noticeably changed.

Well, usually when you speed a song up the pitch changes automatically.
