Maybe I'll just play at night when my wi-fi doesn't cut out.

Winning teams are the ones who get a bunch of Super Sea Snails right?

The winning team gets maybe 3-5 more Super Sea Snails than the losing team. 9/10 of the snails you get come from your rank at the end.

I'm calling it a night now. Here's my stats.

  • Rank: Fork King
  • Fork Power:
    • Initial: 1749.2
    • Peak: 1835.7
    • Ending: 1835.7
  • Win/Loss Record (Solo):
    • Vs. Team Spoon: 23-18
    • Vs. Team Fork: 0-0
    • Total: 23-18

After reaching King rank in solo battles, I did some team battles for the first time. This was also my first time playing on my Switch in Tabletop mode. Usually I play docked, but my computer is in a different room than my Switch's dock, and I found handheld mode awkward with motion controls. And finally, this was also my first time using Discord's voice chat. At first I was hearing some echoes, but then I realized I had the Discord and No Limit's stream open at the same time tongue. I think I should get a better microphone, too. It's a little handheld thing, so I had to awkwardly loop the cord over my ear, around my glasses, and down in front of my mouth, and I'm certain I looked totally ridiculous. Did you guys hear me okay?

I hope I didn't drag you guys down too much. How was I doing? Did you see anything in my playstyle I could use some improvement on?

I keep forgetting that we have a Discord.

Ended at 1961, if I remember right.

Final power is 2084.1, highest is 2144.1. A weirdly good splatfest, all in all, despite connection issues. No mirrors, at least.

I just barely didn't make it to Spoon Royalty (Champion 88), and I don't know my ranking, but it felt like I won most of the time.

One thing I noticed was as the Splatfest wore on, I was getting matches where one side dominated the other. Mostly my side, but when I was losing I really lost. I felt this the most on Blackbelly Skatepark.

Also, I had a match where the winning was decided by random.

As for connection issues, I didn't have any myself up until the last few, but I chalk that up to attempting to use my work's Wi-Fi to try and get a few more points in before the Splatfest ended vs at home where I usually play Splatoon wired.

Yep, the North American Splatfest was over about an hour ago.

Splatfest results are in. Spoon wins popularity with 53.2%, Fork wins everything else with 51.62% solo and 50.31% team.

The dialogue from the results in this one gives me the impression that the last Splatfest for Splatoon 2 will be soon.

It didn't seem so to me.

But I don't expect the Splatfests to end until the 2nd Year anniversary at the latest.

It's basically the American equivalent of Flowers vs. Dumplings, where it was Pearl who got upset about losing so many times.

Spoon Champion!

Not bad considering I didn't even know there was a Splatfest until 6 last evening. I played the Splatfest for about 2 hours.

Good thing the Switch has a news feature, when I turned it on last evening, I only intended to play a few online matches in "Mario Tennis Aces"

Someone thought of an interesting idea for how to potentially fix the popularity curse. Rather than having it be votes, solos, and squad battles, have it be votes, battles, and Salmon Run, where if you do Salmon Run during the Splatfest you get teamed up with your own team and whichever team gathers more eggs in Salmon Runs during the Splatfest gets the point. Since it's a different skill set than Turf Wars it makes it more likely that the two modes will be split and give the popular team a chance.

Because the system they had in the original Splatoon was just fine and they changed it to an "all or nothing" deal that really doesn't work, is the thing. It's good that they're making sure popularity isn't the be-all end-all, but the way we have it now, it's basically a complete non-factor unless one team wins solo battles and the other team wins team battles, which almost never happens.

Wow I felt bad for Marina. I chose Team Fork and considering I lost more battles than won, I was sure Team Spoon had it. I know she’s, like a fictional character but I felt her pain, ha. That dialogue doesn’t really indicate a Marina vs Pearl face-off is coming soon but I think it’s the Splatoon Team Leaning on the Fourth Wall a bit and they’ll probably try to fix the popularity curse.

It's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy sort of thing. As soon as the notion that the popular team loses got out, all of the serious players would deliberately pick the less popular team in order to game the system, while the casual player base determines popularity.
