Mac & Me, owww. I'd never been able to get past that box art when I saw it in the video store, and now I wish I still hadn't. I never knew there were more of them. I don't think I'm going to have to watch it again, which I'm dreading, but that plot just completely bounced off of me and I have no idea what happened by the time the citizenship ceremony rolled around.
Nobody ever gets a second take in Atlantic Rim, huh? And the robots and monster look like toys they got at a garage sale, but this is CG so they could've done anything. I'd kind of like all that a bit better if it weren't supposed to be bad, though.
Part of me really likes The Day Time Ended. Not unironically, probably not without the riffing, but it's one of those inexplicable, who-could-have-possibly-thought-this-was-a-good-idea perfect storm kind of movies. Also I like deserts, which is another way it reminds me of Laserblast, to which The Day Time Ended sort of feels like a weird kind of Sequel Episode. Is there a YMMV trope for that? An episode that feels like a spiritual follow-up to a previous episode, even if it wasn't necessarily intended to be?
Boring, plotless movies are not saved by riffs for me.
Fresh-eyed movie blogJoel sent out an update to the revival Kickstarters:
I pretty much expected that; we were probably lucky to get the shortened season 12. Still, I'm happy with it. And I can tell people I've got my name in the credits of a Netflix original series.
He did say that 11 and 12 will remain available on Netflix.
Joel has also expressed some interest in trying to find another platform for more episodes.
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationGood to know they aren't just letting it die.
Remember that Netflix came to the table after they had a successful crowdfund.
Fresh-eyed movie blogThey have an official twitch channel now, maybe they could use that?
I've been slowly getting into Amazon Prime, they should try there.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Marathon isn't on Youtube. I had to install Pluto TV.
Fresh-eyed movie blogSo an interesting observation on the show (in general) I just picked up on. Joel made more 50s-60s references in his riffs, Mike made more 70s-80s references in his riffs (of course, his era had more films from that time period), and Jonah of course, makes more references to modern stuff (though it's thankfully not as prominent as it could be, there are still more "timeless" jokes).
I do love the occasional joke about something recent, like Me Too, the MCU, or Trump. Not too often, because they lose their punch, but once in a while it can be hilariously jarring.
Reminds me of how I used to find the "Dan Quayle announces his candidacy" riff from the Diabolik episode, absolutely hilarious. But sadly, it lost it's luster in 2016.
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationI think it's too bad the Kevin Spacey revelations hadn't happened yet when they riffed on Starcrash, because they could've made a joke about Christopher Plummer replacing Spacey in All the Money in the World.
So if the show ever got yet another revival/reboot, could a female host work? It would be interesting to get a female perspective on riffing.
For a female host, Kate Mckinnon or Lindsay Ellis would be my picks.

With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationI'd say Kate's too well-known to work as a host (though considering Joel got his start doing his act on SNL in the early 80s, it would be a nice bookend having the first and most recent host having SNL experience),
I was really kind of hoping we'd at least get one episode with Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt in the theatre. But yeah, female host. Newcomer or not. I'm all for it.
Did they pick that role reversal up in the live shows?
Fresh-eyed movie blogActually, on second thought, given Kate's perchance for playing characters who aren't really right in the head, she'd probably work better as a villain. Maybe take over if Felicia Day decided she wanted to step down.
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationI mean, Joel himself planned on being replaced by a female host (Mike's wife, actually)... who was to still be Joel, just hit with a gender bender beam.

Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Ahh, Bridget Jones! I was actually going to suggest her (in a What Could've Been kind of way). She's great. And that would've been a great way to do it.

My mom and I had a theory that Ator was shot in a zoo. That's why they had so many animals to use in the film, and that's why the sets looked like they were straight out of a zoo, like that cute little colosseum set. It made the movie a lot more fun to think about how they pulled off those sets and the animals with that budget, with the logical conclusion being "zoo".
