That's just part of the song they used for the trailer. Unless the surprise tenth emotion is Ozzy Osbourne.
yes,yes he is!
New theme music also a boxThe teenage urge to bite a bat's head off.
I did like the idea the the first movie went with was that additional emotional responses were the result of basic emotions mixing together and working as one, with the idea that they came with learning to respond to situations in more complex and layered ways.
It felt like a good allegory for maturing.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Someone on another board made an interesting point, all the other adults had the same 5 emotions, so why does Riley get new emotions when she gets older?
Maybe they’re retconned to have just been offscreen?
they're busy in an unseen control room
New theme music also a boxMy thought was that they didn't appear in the previous movie because no-one else was feeling them at the time. These are temporary emotions, existing when they need to and leaving when they're not needed.
Would technically work (though still be a fairly obvious retcon) if not for Ennui being covered by the emotion board breaking in the first film.
For some reason I thought "ennui" meant "boredom".
As for Hader and Kaling not returning, on the radio, it was reported "they wanted more money". Which I feel is often used to paint actors in a negative light. The cynic in me feels this could just be a "Crispin Glover" situation where, Hader and Kaling were likely offered less for coming back (which honestly only makes sense if their roles are being reduced for this film), and both actors either asked for the same amount as the previous film, or wanted a pay increase, especially if the other returning actors are getting increased too.
Ah, show business...

With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationVoice acting takes immense talent but it is not the most time intensive work. To voice record an entire animated film may take an actor a week or two, then as the script evolves they have a few more days of recording pickup lines several months to year later. Well established actors will have their going rate, X amount of their time will cost so much. What likely happened was Kaling and Haders going rates increased and Pixar tried to get them for what they got with the first film 8 years earlier. It's the same kind of nickle and dimed politics that was played with Robin Williams as the Genie.
I'm trying to think if this is the first time Pixar has recast a role based on price, I know other roles were recast or altered because of actor deaths.
But I think too the new emotions may be depicted as transient rather than permanent fixtures. The original five emotions were designed with an eye towards being needed for important decision making, an emotion like Anxiety doesn't cover decision making that Fear or Disgust don't already cover.
It can be said too that it was shown in different people that the core emotions looked substantially different than Rileys emotions, typically resembling the host more. And the bus driver had all emotions turn into Rage.
Do you not know that in the service one must always choose the lesser of two weevils!I'm kind of scared.
Of what?
Also @Grounder, I know it's not an attack on me. It just that you don't complain about the movie because of Disney’s decision. The company's bad decision does not make a bad sequel.
“Boom! Boomboom! Boomboomboom! Bakuage Tire! Gogogo!"For what it's worth, we already knew we were getting Inside Out 2 well before we got the announcements of Toy Story 5, Zootopia 2, and Frozen 3 (Inside Out 2 was announced at D23 in September 2022, while the three other sequels were announced all at once in February 2023), so it makes me a bit more confident that the decision make Inside Out 2 was one that Pixar made themselves.
I think the timing caused Inside Out 2 to end up getting (perhaps unfairly) lumped in with the other sequels that were (and still are) heavily suspected to have been knee-jerk greenlights by the executives, though.
"Hey, gimme a minute to get to know everyone, 'kay, Brainy?" "Of course, but please allow me to get a word in, too, bzz."I'm fine with Toy Story 5 because the ending and ultimate message of 4 bugged me; not seeing anything wrong with a Zootopia 2, either, since detective stories are typically serial. Frozen 2, whatevs.
These new ones are mostly linked to shame, lack of self-confidence, giving up… maybe we meet Pride towards the end of the movie, but Pride has to be used very sparingly. Ennui is like the broken console is now a feature. But probably with a French accent. Ennui is not just boredom, but dissatisfaction, emptiness, feeling that something is missing from your life that you may never get.
So we’re keeping this in the same thread?
Finally posted DB Scarlet Mirror: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13689952930A49781400&page=97#2423I just realized why Anxiety has a lot of bags in her hands. It's because she's carrying a lot of emotional baggage! It's a Visual Pun.

Oh I didn't know that. That's genius though.
Also, I can't wait to see the full look of other new characters like Envy, Embrassed, and Ennui.
“Boom! Boomboom! Boomboomboom! Bakuage Tire! Gogogo!"To be honest, my initial reaction to the development of this movie was that of, well, Disgust. I guess I should reserve my judgement until next June.
EDIT: You know what. Upon a second thought, it actually makes perfect sense for there to be a sequel to this one. After all, as noted both in the trailer and this thread, being a teenager does result in a massive emotional development...for better or worse.
EDIT 2: Upon a third thought, you know what, I think this franchise actually has a potential for making AT LEAST two more sequels, with one primarily focusing on adults(be it grown up Riley or her parents) and another on boys.

I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. The inspiration for the first film was the directors daughter was social and outgoing until she turned 10, and then closed off for several years until bouncing back. Their question was "What is going through her head?" and the script almost wrote itself. Once they established the mind environment and the interactions with the emotions, that opens the door for further exploration. The movie even ended on a Sequel Hook of a Puberty Big Red Button.
That said, if they don't have the story they don't have the story and the core gimmick could easily get old.
Do you not know that in the service one must always choose the lesser of two weevils!Second trailer!
Interesting that in contrast to the first movie having a theme that even the seemingly negative emotions aren't bad, these ones really do seem to be portrayed as purely negative.
Of course, that could be a mislead.
SoundCloudMy guess is that the theme of the film is finding a balance and Joy and Anxiety will find common ground.
New poster: Little weird that there’s no writing credits…

The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.I'm not getting the vibe the new emotions are evil, but they also might be taking their jobs too seriously. Literally bottling up Riley's core emotions won't be good for her at all in the long run.
the villain is clearly the laugher at the end of the trailer,I think
