Not like DC and Marvel are strangers to that. Think about how many things they've done during the last few years that's exactly what people just didn't want.
This feels like the New 52 all over again.

Wake me up at your own risk.De Connick had really odd characters beats. Like the first arc was an amnesia arc of all things, Arthur has amnesia and its revealed he got said amnesia when Mera announced her pregnancy he took it badly for some reason asking for some space which lead to Mera being so enraged she tried to murder him and when she knocked him out she then proceeded to dump his body in the ocean somewhere as she rules in his stead for several months.
Its weird especially cause I do hear the run is kinda decent but it those really off-kilter character moments that border on character assassination to some degree.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Been reading JMD's Doctor Fate. It's... weird. It starts off as a horror book before turning into a quirky comedy, then leans back into horror and drama after the first few issues. The first 13 issues after the mini are pretty damn good, and #13 works as an ending if you want to stop there. If they'd stopped at #13, they'd have a darn solid run. The religious stuff is there, but there's a lot more moderation, and it enhances the story instead of taking away from it.
It's after #13 that everything goes down the crapper. The next couple issues after that aren't bad, but the religious stuff becomes more prominent, and redeeming the villains through Jesus would become a trend. But#16 is where the book goes off the rails. All pretenses of being a Superhero book go out the window, and what we get is a meandering sermon that goes nowhere.
The stuff with Linda isn't so bad, but everything else is an excuse to convert the masses. Eric/Eugene stops being a character and becomes a stand-in for the reader, an audience for the author and the Phantom Stranger to preach to. They go on about the greatness of Jesus, how everyone's part of God, how we lost our connection with the supernatural and mysticism and need to reclaim it and all of that stuff until they're blue in the face. There's no debates or discussions, no challenges or examination. It's all about preaching the glories of God, and the comic becomes shackled to that very concept. By the end, it's no longer a story about Doctor Fate, but a weird spiritual lecture, which isn't what most comic fans are here for.
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundIs that the run that has one of the Fates lusting after his hot stepmom who's closer in age to him that to his dad? Could swear I heard about a Fate run like that.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."Man that sounds trippy....
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."That's the one.
They fix it by reincarnating both of them into a married couple, but that's a whole other kettle of fish.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I mean, it's less pure Christanity and more of a weird fusion between Christanity and Hinduism. Heaven and hindu reincarnation were merged into a single system, and Jesus and Krishna are supposed to be different aspects of the same being.

man I'm still upset about the ocean master heel turn. he had a wife and adopted son he loved but now all he cares about is ruling someplace again.
What happened to them anyway?
Like I don't remember Orm coming back in the Abnett run to my knowledge so his return must be in De Connick's. What the Hell did she do to his wife and kid.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I think orm actually turned evil again in the mera abnnet mini though. and he left his wife and kid but told his wife the kid would be his successor some day no matter what.
Ah I never read that one.
Well credit to Orm real nice of him to declare a child who isn't even his by blood to be his successor at least.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."yeah but hes saying this to his ex who no longer wants herself or her son to have anything to do with orm.
Oooof poor Orm and after saving them in Forever Evil.
That is weird the last Aquaman run ended with him and Mera formally married with an entire touching ceremony emphasizing their togetherness while completely destroying the relationship Orm had managed to build with a human woman.
Especially since this is hate-surface dwellers guy after all. The fact he actually fell in love with a human woman and is raising her son is like an inversion of Aquman's relationship with his own mom and dad.
Like that is some epic symbolism and to just throw it away like that....... Goddamn.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Oooh Comic Drake, a pretty cool comic guy doing a video on his issues with Naomi (specifically her comics not the show).
And his complaints are reasonable. He doesn't have a problem with her heavy pushing as we do need more diverse characters, its just the writing surrounding her is extremely bare-bones of anything actually distinctive or interesting and her power-set is incredibly generic being a plain flying brick with some energy blasts.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."That's kinda what I thought about her, too. We definitely need more diverse characters, but she seems awfully generic to me.
This is a pretty good comment that sums up the issues with her.
It has been several years and I can't really describe Naomi in clear terms especially her powers. I can describe how Vixen is empowered by a totem that gives her animal abilities or how Static has electro control and specifically chooses to fly via a metal disc that he controls with electromagnetism but Naomi is just she's strong and can fly and can sorta shoot energy blasts.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Oh huh, just learned that today's Wonder Woman brought back the Image-Maker, a minor Silver Age baddie with exactly one previous appearance. Wild.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."I’m still waiting for Batman editorial to bring back the Penny Plunderer!
The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]DC Wiki tells me he returned in this holiday special, and the Rainbow Monster too!

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
Couldn't they have brought back Hagen or some other guy to do that.
This feels so strange to go against what people liked.
