Yeah, they would be terrible places to live. Even the lighter kid friendly Silver Age DCU isn't a place you would want to live in. Silver age Superman was way too powerful. Like, the main reason for that guy to team up with anyone was for the other party to get rid of the kryptonite.

And Bendis already reintroduced the Vic Sage Question in the pages of Action Comics, although he hasn't done much with him yet. I like the sound of this "Detective's Guild" though. Anything that gives me more Detective Chimp is good.

So what exactly is... happening at DC right now? In addition to recent bizarre creative decisions like turning Wally West evil, there's rumors of behind the scenes turmoil as well. Wasn't Rebirth going really well?

Rebirth was dropping off a little towards the end, but was stable, but the real blow was Geoff stepped down from his senior creative position and Didio and Lee took full control back and swiftly began making things bleak'n'edgy again.

See, this is why I think Dan Didio is far more damaging to the comics than Joe Quesada was. Can't they try to replace him?
Joe Quesada had a few hangups (like Peter Parker's marriage), but also contributed a lot of really good stuff (like Marvel Knights). Quesada also knew when to leave and let someone else be EIC.
Didio...eh, I'm not even sure it's all his fault, the current EIC since the New 52 has been Bob Harras, the guy who made terrible decisions when he was EIC of Marvel (during 1995-2000).

My impressions of the two, as I've said before...
- Quesada: legitimately talented guy with a few bizarre Single Issue Wonks that make him difficult to like.
- Didio: Overgrown frat bro.
The plot of DCEASED has been revealed. It's pretty much Marvel Zombies, only in the DC Universe and probably better written (I love most of Tom Taylor's stuff).
So REALLY it's D Crossed... 
Both Marvel and DC are a Crapsack World of Badass.
