  • Name: Goes by "Makoto", since she can't remember her true name. Turns out it's "Mikoto".
  • Age: 142
  • Gender: Female
  • Religion: Follows none. Pretty much unaware of religion in general, really.
  • Race: Kitsune
  • Appearance: She keeps the ears/tail hidden, generally. Her fox form is rather small.
  • Personality: A perpetually cheerful person who never seems to be in bad spirits - unless she misses out on dinner. Or lunch. Or breakfast. Or... any time she could be eating. She likes to eat. She's also naive and very trusting of anyone who can prove their kindness (toss her a scrap, basically), and absolutely hates dogs for being too mean.
    • Due to her amnesia and lack of experience with humans in general, she tends to forget that law is a thing, which can be a little problematic when it comes to 'hunting' for food. She does, however, share her spoils with anyone else that looks hungry or downtrodden in general, and aspires to be a heroic role model for others. Somehow.
  • Bio: A fox that somehow lived to be 100, and became a kitsune. Not long after that, she got into a silly accident that left her amnesiac. Her lack of memories has ended up causing Makoto to believe that she must be some sort of important hero who will one day awaken to amazing power, complete with a mysterious, most-likely tragic past. This is obviously not true at all.
  • Skills:
    • She can transform from a fox form, to a human form. While human, however, she can be startled into revealing her ears or tail.
    • She also has rather weak fox-fire. It's... magically-created flames.
    • Although not demonstrated, Makoto has a knack for drawing.
    • Can eat anything in which 'edible' is contained within its label. Including 'inedible'.
  • Possessions and Assets: Nothing, aside from the clothes on her back.

So....Luck-based powers are, I'm guessing, fine?

Like the person can control the luck of others at expense of his own and stuff.

That sounds extremely hax.

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial

No, I mean

They could decide whether the person can have good or bad luck in a certain situation, but doing so would decrease their own luck.

Um... wouldn't that basically be dictating what a player's character can and can't do?

I....have not thought about it that way.

Hrm. I'll just think of something else then.

KSPAM.

Eastern Europe sucks. Like, it really really sucks. Whereas Vlad was out in the sticks of Transylvania, which then became Romania, there must have been other vampires who were making waves in the modern day. A private army of vampires must be rather valuable, and I was essentially proposing that the other guy be another Romanian Vamp who, unlike Vlad, stayed with the times and became some kind of arms dealer or something.

So that is how an old world vampire would fit into the modern day.

A private army of vampires would be in line with the power of the vampire Courts in the Dresden Files, but it's way too much for a player character.

It's been fun.

Hence why I then mentioned an arms dealer.

RainehDaze Figure of Hourai from Scotland (Ten years in the joint) Relationship Status: Serial head-patter
Figure of Hourai
#85: Nov 19th 2013 at 5:39:16 PM

  • Name: Over her life, she's had three names. In order, they are:
    • Kirisame Nabiki
    • Yakumo Akane
    • Houraisan Kasumi
  • Age: Around 280, though for 100 years of that she was just another feline. ... just another feline that lived a really long time, at least.
  • Gender: Female
  • Religion: Buddhist
  • Race: Nekomata
  • Appearance: The one on the right! More generally this, though her attire is usually much simpler†  And, in fact, generally lacking the kitty features.
  • Personality: "IHAVEARRIVED." more or less sums up Kasumi's approach to things. Loud. Overenthusiastic. And very much lacking in comprehensibility and pacing. She can, however, sit still and watch things—or take long naps. She just compresses all the activity that could otherwise be taking place into the other half of the day.
Friendly enough to overlook anything short of a direct insult.
  • Bio: Her first lifetime was mostly spent in a Buddhist temple, and was rather subdued, with Kasumi spending most of her time as a cat. Towards the end, she learned a lot more of economics. In general, this period is responsible for her religious views and her lingering fondness for kimono. Afterwards, however, she started to experience rather a large amount of wanderlust—which took her to Britain, Japan's ally at that time, until quite some time after both world wars were concluded. She got a nice jacket at the time.
Around ten years prior to this, she moved to the USA, using funds she'd stored up from one job or another to set up a café, which she continues to run to the present day. It prides itself on being open 24/7, and all food being prepared by hand (helped by the fact that the kitchen staff is vastly bigger than you'd expect from such a small place)
  • Skills:
    • Necromancer: Kasumi can raise bodies by... uh, jumping over them. Said zombies retain the full measure of their free will—and if she's on the scene soon enough their personality—but can be compelled to obey highly specific orders. She only tends to bring back the homeless, and about a dozen staff her restaurant 24/7. Everyone else gets to go free.
All zombies are kind of cool to the touch, though, not to mention pale. Might explain why her place attracts Goths so much.
    • Shapeshifting: She can go from fully cat to fully human and anywhere in between. The only partway stage she utilises is retaining her ears and tails... which exclusively shows up for anime conventions because it's basically free cosplay.
    • Eat Anything: Why do all animals-turned-people in Japanese folklore have this ability, anyway?
  • Possessions and Assets: She... owns a café-cum-restaurant. It'll serve almost anything if you ask for it directly, but the menu is standard breakfast fare and otherwise mostly sandwiches and hot drinks.
The top two floors are nice places, where she stays along with her employees (for a given value of employee, as there's no actual contract, and payment consists of luxuries only)

Eh, fair point. Also, just noticed I typo'd 'chef' and dying of shame.

Anyway, the Shinto folks aren't going to like the necromancy dealio one bit, not if they take it seriously.

It's been fun.

She's of the opinion that people can get on with the business of reincarnating or achieving Nirvana when they've had a lifetime where there's room for more consideration than surviving another day. That, it's an instinctual thing, and most people likely appreciate not being dead from poor conditions.

@Raineh: I know that. I'm saying that if any of the Shinto folks take their religion more than casually seriously, they're not going to associate with someone who's come in contact with dead things.

...and I hope Kasumi doesn't serve meat at her restaurant.

I think Reiko's the only shinto practioner here... and even if she was more dedicated I don't think she'd care too much. She'd be more worried about undead actually existing.

Also modern shintoism is pretty loose anyway.
