@Taco: Vlad is mostly alright. A little eccentric but certainly workable. I'd change the flying, as it is an acceleration without an actual max speed... and achieving ultra high flying speed doesn't seem as integral to the vampire powerset. I'd make it so that he can levitate and float at around a jogging pace and if he wants to fly faster he must turn into a bat. I'd also note how resilient he is to normal damage and how fast he can heal from it.

@tricksterson: That seems a bit kitchen sink-ish...

@Nman: What I told you before, Manny is mostly alright but I'd like a bit more elaboration on his bio about his family and his status as a chupacabra, how that made their lives differently and how bloodsucking monsters that haunt farmers consolidated into a family that moved to Volwick to try and make a living as common people.

@Anno: Hmmm still see it as a bit unworkable, sorry Anno.

@Moerin: Alexis herself is good Moerin, though there are a couple aspects that I'll note. First and not as big of a deal, her abilities seem a little Nasuverse-ish with the Reinforcement. It is something that could happen on this setting anyway though, so that's not as big of a deal. One thing I'd note is that given how magic works on this setting, if she has access to it and spends most of her time punching people she will gradually grow stronger and faster than it would be otherwise normal. If she knows how to channel her magic from coming of a family of mages, she could use bursts of magical energy within her to impulse sudden bursts of strong punches or other feats of strength. Now, the second issue and one that worries me a bit more would be her parents. A pair of noble wizards from an old family of magic users just existing inside Volwick is a bit of a setting breaker, since they would change by their presence what may or may not be a threat within the city. If possible, I'd like to tone down her ancestry Moe. They can be rich and magic users, but an old noble family would be a bit too much. They shouldn't be all that strong... or if you can place them on a different town that would be good too.

@Troy: Troy, you seem to have truly grasped the aesthetics of the setting even if you missed on the tone a little bit. Like the others have commented, his backstory is a little dark... but more than that, they character itself seems to have a personality that would make it hard for others to interact with him. And in this sandbox RP, that may be a bigger problem than usual. Steel Speaking would need to be taken down a notch as is the beign warded against Magic. In this setting, it makes little sense to be protected from something God level strong and not of whatever lies beneath that level. And being protected of God level stuff is way too big a feat. I'd lower that to say that he's warded against glamors and enchantments and also having a bit of magical resistance.

@ Moe on Troy: That piece of advice could have been phrased better Moe.

@Tropay: Yups. Though I'd use a low number of tails if you are making one.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

...Yeah, like I said, that was written at a really stupid time in the morning, so I screwed up horribly. Sorry about that. Basic gist was supposed to be "if you like it, at least try to not be so over-the-top about it and take into account that other people might not be too comfortable with the elements you're trying to bring in". Basically, bare in mind that everyone else, like you, is RPing for fun and thus it's probably better to think about what people would be willing to work with. ...If that makes sense. I was trying to be helpful but... Again, really stupid time in the morning so it probably came out wrong.

And yeah, my main sources of influence when it comes to urban fantasy are the Nasuverse and the Buffyverse, so when it comes to that kind of thing, uh... Yeah, ahah. As for her family... Hmmm. She is a delinquent so having her spend most of her time away from her hometown isn't too much of a stretch of the imagination, but it's probably easier to just say they're rich mages... I'll get back to you on that one once I decide which option to choose, ahah. ^^;

[up][up][up][up]Vlad is just as physically vulnerable to bullets as the average human; he relies entirely on regeneration for tankiness. How about he regenerates fast enough to make a bullet wound take about three seconds to heal, with times scaling linearly with the size of the wound, and ingestion of blood from a live subject massively boosting this regeneration time? Flying speed nerf sounds good.

@Anno: Sorry to hear it Anno, truly. If you get another idea sometime, I'd love to look it over.

@Troy: Hmmm the passing straight through chainlink fences is what kind of tipped me off. Altering steel with magic if you are not a straight up practicing mage should be quite hard and he seems to specialize more in straight up combat than reading books and moving magic. It is a bit too much with the rest of his kit.

@Moe: Sounds good! Do tell me what you choose to change.

@Taco: Three seconds to heal a bullet wound seems like a hell of a regeneration. Given how fast and strong he is already, that seems like a bit of a lot to overcome. I do understand that he has some very specific weaknesses that help counter this, but I'd prefer it if physical damage could slow him down better if you manage to hit him. I'd say it takes minutes to let a wound like that heal completely and just a bit faster if he's sorely concentrating on it. And while the wound remains, he should have his mobility limited.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

PARTY PARTY PARTY I WANNA HAVE A PARTY
#62: Nov 18th 2013 at 10:05:14 AM

  • Name: Daniel Tú Jedynak
  • Age: 17
  • Gender: Male
  • Religion: Naytheist, but is perfectly willing to invoke whatever deity he needs to should the situation require it
  • Race: Human (assumed)
  • Appearance: Trust me, he's not as tough as he looks.
  • Personality: Unseemingly world-weary for a highschool student. Daniel is snarky and more than a little wily, as is required of someone who wants to stay alive in his circumstances. A heavy air of cynicism surrounds him, which he tries to temper. Maintaining cautious optimism is how Daniel's stayed sane, but anyone who knows him well can see that even that forced facade is starting to wear thin. He is a firm believer in no higher power besides his own misfortune, and tends to treat religion with a bit of bitterness. Daniel believes men are better than gods, and scorns them for their callousness towards mortals. He's a bit Properly Paranoid, but will put the lives of others before his own if the situation demands it (because as he puts it "how much longer could I possibly live?")
  • Bio: A seemingly normal human who had the misfortune of being born Supernaturally Delicious and Nutritious. His blood (and by extension the juicy prime rib that marinates in it) is irresistible to any kind of carnivorous monster on God's green earth, painting a target on his back since he was a kid. He's managed to stay alive this long by being plucky, but as he grows older the stench of his blood grows stronger, and it becomes more and more clear he can't handle his safety on his own anymore. Recently he's been "putting an ad out" so to speak for other carnivorous monsters who might be willing to cooperate with him instead of eat him. In order to protect himself from the guys who want to cook his heart over a firepit or nibble on his brains, he's willing to offer a small but regular payment of his delicious blood to any monster willing to act as his bodyguard. However, he has so far been met with little success, as most applicants just want to eat him first and ask themselves questions about sustainability later.
  • Skills: Monsters find his blood improbably and inexplicably delicious, and it can draw them from over half a mile away by scent alone. As a bonus, when consumed, his blood has hypernutritive effects. A regular diet of it can result in an alpha monster who stands head and shoulders above anyone else in their species. However, the taste of the blood has been known to cause emotional dependency, almost like chocolate and soft drugs, and while no lasting side-effects occur, what it bestows is effectively a long-lasting natural high that never deteriorates the more you use it and is more intense than a lot of commonly used comparisons that come to mind. To make a bad thing worse, it's only ripening with age like a fine wine. In order to protect himself he tried learning a bunch of self-defense techniques, but even that is quickly becoming irrelevant, as he's only human, and has human limitations.
  • Possessions and Assets: His smartphone, fingerless gloves, and signature jacket, within can be found numerous monster repellants (such as self-stitched crosses, zippers and buttons made of pure iron). He also makes it a habit of carrying a bottle of holy water everywhere he goes.

  • Name: Matthias Roland Blanc
  • Age: 22 years old
  • Gender: Simple male here.
  • Religion: Agnostic.
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance: To outwards onlookers he seems like a regular disheveled college/university student or drop out and well, the drop out part is correct. He dresses most of the time his a white short and a pair of jeans, it is currently unknown how many sets of this outfit he keeps in his wardrobe. His hair is brown and messy and his eyes are alternating purple and gold due to his ability but he most often wears colored lenses to cover is up.
  • Personality: Matthias is not a an of commitment, dropping out of college because nothing interested him and in his own words his mc is the "girlfriend he have had the longest", he got it last month. Never the less he prefers to eat out at various resturrants, becoming a regular to many of them and he always tips generously to make sure people remember him, he also have a tendency to try act older than he really is though most of the time it just makes him act immature.
  • Bio: Matthias is a French-American citizen with his father being a french immigrant and his mother being an american. He is also a decendant of Roland of the Twelve Peers and like the rest of his family is on a life long quest to reclaim Durandal and destroy evil, Matthias is only a bit more lax about it, beggining to study at a college in a wide variety of subjects but eventually dropping out he eventually setteled down in Volwick and opened a Private Investigation Bureau, especially catering to supernatural clients.
  • Skills: His most notable ability is his Eyes of Truth that he calles them a bit dramatically, essentially it gives him the power to see how things really is and pierce through illlusions of all kinds as well as reading peoples movements to an absurd degree, however it is limited to his eyes, he can still be fooled by people telling him lies as long as he can't see them and read their body laungage, this combined with his deductive skills and rough martial arts training makes him quite good and probably quite reknowned in the supernatural world in his job. He is however a horrible cook and have a preference to watch bad soap operas whenever he can. he speaks both french and english fluently
  • Possessions and Assets: A long (roughly 1 meter) baton with a hidden spike in one end is Matthews primary tool. Other tools he have is a motorcycle, an apartment, a smart phone and a monthly allowance sent from his family in Europe.

"Of course, Satsuki-sama."
#65: Nov 18th 2013 at 1:09:34 PM

Um, actually I do have another idea.

  • Name: Moto Reiko
  • Age: 16
  • Gender: Female
  • Religion: Shinto, her family members in America practice it as well. Not that she cares too much about it aside from acknowledging it once in a great while.
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance: Oh whoever could have inspired this character
  • Personality: Reiko is kind of an aloof girl. Having lost her parents when she was young, she lacks a close bond with her other family members, regardless of whether they're the ones in Japan or the ones in America. She cares about them to some extent, but she never got very close to them. As such, she lacks experience with a real family. Reiko is also a rather cocky girl who has no issues with resorting to violence if she feels like it's necessary, and very few qualms with somewhat illegal activities(mostly just beating up unpleasant people and taking stuff from them because they're jerks). Reiko's not the kind of person to go listening to others, unless said others happen to be Alexis Mallory. After all, the American girl's gang is the closest she really has to a real family. She has friends back in Japan(and views it as her true home), of course, but a "family" in America.
  • Bio: Reiko lost her parents in an accident when she was younger. Since then, she has spent time in both her home country of Japan and America, usually spending a month or two in America. This is because she has relatives in both countries. In America, she joined a gang, and back home in Japan, she's got a bit of a reputation for going out late at night and stirring up a bit of trouble.
  • Skills: Reiko is pretty decently athletic and no slouch when it comes to a fight. However, she doesn't like hand-to-hand and prefers her bat. She can, naturally, speak Japanese. However, she's also fluent in English, speaking with an accent but clearly.
  • Possessions and Assets: Reiko has her relatives' home, which she spends little time in, and her prized aluminum baseball bat. She's even "customized" her bat, painting it bright red and writing the kanji for love(愛) in black paint on the tip.

Hopefully she's more acceptable even though it's pretty blatant who inspired her even without the picture. ^^;

  • Name: Jan Lehrer
  • Age: 19
  • Gender: Male
  • Religion: Christian
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance: Standing at about 6 foot even, Jan's a thin guy. His facial features are simultaneously sharp and gaunt, with a light amount of faint freckles on each cheek. His eyes are hazel and his hairs a ginger color, cut short but in such a way as to have some nice movement courtesy of his personal stylist*. He's always wearing something professional or formal - not so extreme as a suit, mind you, something closer to a very nice school uniform of sorts. In other words, he almost never dresses casually or for his own comfort.
  • Personality: Jan's as talkative as you want him to be but he's very stoic and speaks in this friendly monotone you might expect from a very consistent customer service employee that you speak to over the phone. In some respects, he's quite like one - he's willing to listen and happy to help should you ask for it. A lot of people like to come to him for help, too, considering that if there's one thing he is above all, it's a perfectionist in many respects. Spotless room, knockout in appearance*, absolutely perfect in anything he does academically. He's hyper-critical of himself as a result and views mistakes as outright attacks to his person by himself, attacks he takes with a straight face and simply resolves to correct immediately. However, he doesn't view it as necessary to be perfect in everything and finds himself more acceptable as a result. In addition, going back to the helpful thing, he's not hyper-critical of others and is instead more than happy to assist you where he can if you wish to get better. Jan has two particular personality traits that stand out. First, almost nothing phases him initially, discounting some earth-shattering revelations. For those that aren't the exception, he'll exhibit a much more neutral reaction in terms of emotional output than he may actually possess and show naturally/choose to show. It's caused him trouble before when a particular reaction is expected and he inadvertently doesn't react with it, thus offending the other party, and has caused Jan a bit of grief at trying to understand why he does that. Second, he avidly believes in living by the teachings of your parents. Honor thy Father, Honor thy Mother, always. random note
  • Bio: Jan is the self-professed son of a German mother and father, both highly invested in the political scene back in his home country. However, he was raised almost from birth in Volwick by his uncle and his American wife. The story has been laid out in full to him some years ago: Jan was sent to be raised in America due to his being an illegitimate child, son to his father back home and an Irish woman, presumably. His uncle, living in Volwick to stay off the grid and away from the strong amount of prestige and such in the Lehrer line, found out through news coverage of the affair and offered to raise the child where prying eyes couldn't find him. His father agreed and so here Jan is, a student* at the most prestigious university Volwick has to offer, working at their library and with the tutor groups to assist students in his home city (often hiring himself out as a personal tutor outside official hours). He keeps in contact with his biological father through weekly calls and is able to see him once, sometimes twice a year for a few hours. Despite this, Jan clings strongly to the sense of identity he has through the Lehrer line and works tirelessly to please adoptive parents in Volwick who love him as though he was their own child and a father in Germany who is wishing him the best, considering the circumstances*.
  • Skills: Other than his intelligence level and ability to go unphased by many an event more than others, Jan is a completely normal human being.
    • Also, fluent in German, just to add to the whole bilingual thing going on here.
  • Possessions and Assets: Jan lives with his uncle and his wife in the northern area of Volwick by their wishes alone, although its not like he isn't happy to be with them when he's got the time to spare. He's got his license but bikes to his university instead for the exercise. On top of any pay he receives from tutoring and part-time work, he does get a nice monthly allowance from his biological father. Aside from that, he doesn't exactly have anything special.
