@Filip04: I don't see anything in what you linked saying Fluttershy's birthday is March 16. Am I missing something or where did you get that?

@SpongeGuy11: Just because the portal opened multiple times in those 100 moons doesn't mean Sunset went though each time, it's only the last one where she had motive to. Or am I misunderstanding your question?

The thing is more that the first movie suggested that missing the portal would mean being trapped in the human world for a very long time, on the order of decades.

[up][up]I was not suggesting Sunset went through the portal every time it opened. I was only bringing up how inconsistent they are with how long moons are.

[up][up][up] I himself don't know why people put Fluttershy birthday at March 16.

And speaking of Fluttershy, I founded today on Derpibooru this human fanart of her's that presents her as a Disney Princess.

[up][up][up]Where did the decades theory come from?

Even if 30 moons is 30 months, that's long enough to be considered serious especially with how important Twilight is. But 30 moons not being as long/severe as treated wouldn't be the biggest hole/oversight given it took this long to notice.

Just recalled Rainbow Rocks was stated by Word of God as 6 moons after the first movie. EG 1 was set in Equestria's summer (between One Bad Apple's Summer Harvest Parade and the S4 premiere's Summer Sun Celebration), but RR was before Tanks for the Memories autumn/winter transition (which also showed less than a year has passed since May the Best Pet Win!).

That gives 1 moon = 1 month at most. But a moon equaling 1 week would allow the 100 moons between Apple family reunions in the two years between (S1 premiere in summer, Winter Wrap Up, Hearth's Warming Eve, May the Best Pet Win Out of Order, S3-S4 summer).

Just had a thought. A moon being 2 weeks would be lunarology meaningful (time between new and full moon) while being distinct from existing time units to justify being separate. Thoughts about that?

[up]If one moon equals a week, wouldn't that somehow imply Sunset left for the human world 30 weeks before the first Equestria Girls movie?

Like it's still inconsistent in time since Sunset is said to have left 30 moons before the first movie. But then with Granny Smith saying Apple Family Reunion is 100 moons after the last Apple Family Reunion (which was in the first episode), that would have to somehow indicate Sunset was still in Equestria after the first episode. That's what I mean when I mention how inconsistent the show is with moons.

I personally headcanon that "moon" is a subjective word and switches between day, month, or year based on context. "Grogar" states that his defeat by Gusty happened "thousands of moons ago". If we take his word literally, it would mean that he was defeated anywhere from 80 to 800 years before "Frenemies", which is impossible.

I believe when characters use the moon as a yearly timeframe, perhaps they use a winter solstice as a measurement. Sorta like how I used the summer sun celebration to calculate the show's timeline a few pages back.

Granny Smith also says it like it was a long time ago, not like, 2 years ago.

And does the moon even have phases in Equestria? The way the princesses handle them, it should be permanently full moon.

Is it possible that Granny Smith may have just been exaggerating with the 100 moons comment?

Just like how the Bible throws around the number 40 when it wants to describe something that took a long time (it rained for 40 days and nights!/They wandered in the wilderness for 40 years!).

@SpongeGuy11: Sunset didn't necessarily leave merely 30 moons before the movie, but multiple 30 moon cycles prior (60, 90, X multiple of 30 moons). That would be required to explain how she had as up to date knowledge about Twilight and the Elements as she did (moons being short enough to allow more than one cycle between episode 1 and EG1).

And it's possible the Apple family reunion in the premier was just a reunion, not the Reunion that' every 100 moons. Supporting this is the latter had Apple's from Appleoosa and Manehattan who weren't at the earlier one.

@Afrovenator: There's reason not to take "Gorgar's" word at face. But moon varying on context is an interesting idea, if we can get an idea what that context is. (Otherwise, it would cause such needless confusion there's no reason they'd do so.)

@Redmess: The last Reunion couldn't have been that long ago given the Apple siblings were near present age. And I checked screencaps and yes Equestria's moon does have cycles. How is a separate question unless we can think of any that would explain the unit of time.

Guessing today being her birthday comes from being when For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils aired (which showed her 5th birthday).

Post of the Week #3599

If your the kind of guy for whom nightmarish antics are a plus, then go ahead and read the crap out of cupcakes, and know that it was written about 5 episodes into the season or something.

Wasn't it based on episode 12, "Call of the Cutie"?

(But the funny thing is that it led to a flood of jokes about Pinkie Pie's breakdown in episode 25, "Party of One", and now that episode is associated with that story despite any similarities being coincidental.)

I may come off as dumb for asking but, how come everyone hated Pinkie's sharing song in Over a Barrel? Like, how was it bad enough to start a war between the bison and Appleloosa?

[up] I know this is half off topic, but I like theory that the bisons and Apleloosans staged the war.

To give a possible in-universe reason for why Pinkie's sharing song was hated, my guess is that both sides felt like Pinkie was an outsider butting in and preaching to them without actually giving any useful solutions to their problems besides "just learn to share".
