MY WISH HAS BEEN GRANTED
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~Civia@Grounder: There was a lot of talk to the effect that Shantae was so pale as to look sickly by comparison with her older, browner art. Granted, the artists at Wayforward have never been totally consistent with her skin color, but this time she apparently looked so fishbelly-white as to be over the line. There are still people in the comments section of the Kickstarter complaining that she's been whitewashed.

Sickly isn't one of the reactions I saw, but ok then.
I have never played the game. I was fine with the white color.
If anything I thought it was funny, like: "Man, she must have a magical sunblock to withstand against the sun."
Then there was the thing that she originally had more melanin and thought: "Hey, this is cool".
Then I got myself hoping that we had both color palettes.
Then there was all the dumbness and hate about what is her right color and I am trying hard to not get dragged into it.
Crap, I just did, didn't I?
Screw it. I still want all color palettes.
And why being white means that you look sick?
RealidadeIt was more that she was a pale white that drew the "sickly" comments. Compare her to her friends (Skye, the girl in the hood in the background, and Bolo, the headband guy, specifically) for example.note
Most of the reaction was due to her being darker skinned in the older games though.

To me that "pale" white was pretty normal.
And to those who say sickly, I am a very white person. Pretty healthy. But I did get pissed off when people kept saying that I was running away from the beach or called me "sour milk".
RealidadeThe download has more verses! Yes!
I have a message from another time...no seriously i havent stopped listening to that song since ive downloaded it send help
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaThey say we live in the darkness
They say there's trouble ahead
Every day there's sorrow. Today, tomorrow
But I'm dancing instead!
I am looking forward to this. Glad that they took the concerns seriously. It really DOES look much better.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectShe always looked tanned at the most to me.
Definitely looking forward. Shantae's always been a favorite of mine, female protagonists are boss.

I agree. She use to look more light brown to me.
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justiceNerds start arguments over the stupidest fucking shit these days. Implied, ambiguous racism. Implied, ambiguous sexism. Damn.
That said, this game looks hype as fuck.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Things can look "hype" nowadays? <_< Thats almost as bad as literally meaning figuratively nowadays apparently
^^ To be fair, darker skinned characters being redrawn as Ambiguously Brown or suspiciously light skinned in new incarnations or adaptations is a thing that happens. It's often not overt racism (usually) as much as it's as it's artists not noticing that sort of thing or subconsciously doing it - and brings to mind the idea that lighter skinned is considered more normal.
Do we have a Most Writers Are White page? Cause Most Writers Are Male basically sums up what it is - it's not so much prejudice as it is bias and perspective. It's a similar reason as to why white characters in media tend to be normal (or have more of a range of portrayal) while nonwhite characters are more likely to be either character types or "special" in some way.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Wow, someone actually pledged $10k
i wish i could burn money like that holy shit
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaA darker skin tone also makes more sense in the setting, I think.
Should I pick up the 3DS re-release of the Game Boy game? I own Risky's Revenge, but nothing else.
I have a message from another time...If you have no other way to play the original, like I do, then yes. I hated how short RR was compared to the original game, but that was my only real gripe with it. It'll also give you a feel as to how expansive Shantae can be.
The main issue with the original is that the sprites are huge and take up a lot of the screen, leading a lot of leaps of faith.

Personally, I just bought it since it's only around $5 and I've always been planning on checking out the Shantae series. (I like going through games in sequence)

What?
I guess if you see the world through rose-colored glasses, this is the kind of crap you complain about. Seriously, it's not like they're arguing about her not being African black or having bigger boobs, so why complain?
Dakota's blog An odd agent of justicex6 I've actually considered getting the original Shantae myself, and possibly RR afterwards.

I think this Kick starter should have been started after Mighty Num 9
You look happy, I can change that if you want.
