I can't help it—I really like the Barbie direct to DVD movies. My favorites are the nutcracker, Rapunzel, and Swan lake adaptations, though I also like the Fairy and Mermaid ones.

I like how the villains have nonstandard character designs so there's some variety there, when the heroines and heroes just look like...well, Barbie and Ken. XD

I only ever saw the Nutcracker one, 'cause they showed it on TV once, 'cause just anything can get shown on TV in December if it's Christmas-related. That was the one with the singing vegetables that weren't Veggietales, right? But maybe I ought to seek out some more of those movies, just to listen to more of those Ocean Group voices.

Come to think of it, I caught a bit of that Fashion Fairytale one on TV once, too. But wasn't that the one that switched to less of a fairytale tack?

I remember the Mermaid ones.

Ehh... the movies were OK I guess. I've heard of a father that liked one of the films (for the life of me I can't remember which one it was)

There was one where I think Barbie was friends with a dragon and they went to another world through like a chalk drawing on a wall or something...? They tended to really deviate from the story's structure and keep the bare minimum of the story itself in. Dunno if that should really count for anything.

I was forced to watch The Barbie Diaries at a birthday party once and thought it was the dumbest thing ever. I've seen parts of the princess ones, though, and they're kind of cute. It's a little disappointing that they haven't done any straight-up fantasy stories in a while. Now it seems like they're all set in modern times and only have fantasy elements.

Yes.

The magic chalk drawing was the only way to escape the magic tower, and it only worked because the magic hairbrush that Barbie's mother gave to her when she died in childbirth turned into a magic paintbrush after The Witch Gothel destroyed all of Barbie's paintbrushes.

I can quote every line of dialoge from that movie, pitch-perfect, timing-perfect, because my little sister used to watch it twice a day, every day, in summer.

Hoo boy, Barbie the plastic whore herself...my sister used to own the nutcracker movie I don't remember of that movie over than all three voices of Goku from the Ocean Dub of DBZ who were there for some reason.... The voice of Turaga Vakama, Kevin and Marie Kanker are all there along with....mmmm Tim Curry! And for some reason we still own that one other Barbie movie that has been in that cabinet of drawers for quite some time that's oddly enough on DVD. As for the movies as a whole I don't really think much of them nowadays just for the fact that my younger sister used to watch 'em a lot...that is until she discovered Bratz that is...

Ahh, sweet guilty pleasure...

Tough the only time I watch them is when they air them on TV. I've watched a few of them, but the only ones that I can actually recall is the Nutcracker one and the Three Musketeers one. Actually, I think I watched some of that Princess and the Popstar one as well, now that I think about it.

My ESP strikes again! I was preemptively excited for Barbie and the Secret Door despite knowing nothing but the title when it first came out. When plot details were revealed, I discovered it was almost exactly the kind of plot idea I wanted to submit to Mattel to make a Barbie movie!

Also, for the first time ever, the main villain is getting a toy!

What, no mention of the pegasus movie? That one was my favourite by far, but I can't remember much from it...

YES! OH YES! I just loved the Barbie movies! I actually owned the Nutcracker one on VHS for many years now and I usually look at that one whenever Christmas rolls around. Now, I'm trying to gather all of the Barbie movies that are coming out and I have been enjoying all of them so far, even though I haven't seen the first part of A Mermaid's Tale and I just recently got the second part to A Mermaid's Tale. I do wonder when they will ever go back to the classic fairy tale styles they had before.

[up] They did so starting with the second Mariposa movie. The Secret Door seems to be a straight up fairy tale, and the Pearl Princess was pretty close to one. They're still making more contemporary ones too, so everyone is happy :)

[up] Yep ^^ I like both of the styles, so this makes me really happy! My favorite characters tend to be the villains XD Eris was a great villain, especially in A Mermaid Tale 2. That movie I liked a lot for its focus on the mother-daughter relationship between Calissa and Merliah.

Is it just me, or did anyone think that "Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus" and "Frozen" were eerily similar? (both have a snowy backdrop, both heroines meet handsome outcasts, the heroine has to find her sister, both have adorable sidekicks...)

Oh snap, maybe I should watch that one just to see what you're talking about. I already learned that the voice of the Pegasus was also the voice of Clover from My Little Pony Tales. surprised (Seems you're more likely to get Vancouver actors for those toy-based cartoons?)

Hello, I'm an adult guy from Poland, but I really like watching Barbie movies. Especially Rapunzel, but also Diamond Castle, Magic of Pegasus and 12 Dancing Princesses. Wonderful music with great plot. I'm a huge fan of polish actress who is the polish voice for Barbie since the beginning, but unfortunately in english version of new movie, Barbie and Secret Door the singing voice was changed so it also happened in polish version. I hope that it won't last long and in the next movie we will hear again the old singing voice.
