You could do a whole show on infernal politics.

Glasya's own antics could last a season. And yes, she's my dungeon master's favorite NPC to play.

As much as I love antiheroes, I'd actually like to see more Good Players doing Good Things.

Even in Critical Role, people act like the gods are bad things.

And I'm like, "Dude, you've been slinging their healing magic for years and this is the thanks they get?"

As someone who just starting playing a paladin of Bahamut and has to keep reminding myself to do more righteous actions and suggestions, I get why anti-heroes happen a lot in games.

Good point about the gods and there being righteous or beneficent ones. Though I always find it funny when someone plays a cleric or paladin of a god of something like agriculture.

Hey, I have a Tiefling oath of devotion sworn to Bahamut's service.

Lawful Good characters follow a code so it helps when playing as one to commit it to memory. Methodical good is often a very effective way of bringing justice.

To think, if they'd just let the Council make the decision in the beginning, they would've been released and not been outlaws anymore.

So, Orcus on His Throne in reverse.

:)

Villains Act, Heroes React is a terrible trope, though. I know you don't want the Legions of Heaven to take away from the protagonists but they could have some pretty good excuses for it all too.

Zariel Also tried to quelll the tides and now she runs the 1st circle of hell. So I get why they don't bother.

Zariel could be redeemed but that’s a non canon path.

I mean, in general, the movie would have done better waiting for August for two reasons;

On the DND nerdy front, Baldur's Gate 3 came out and was a MASSIVE hit. It got A LOT of people to look at tabletop RPG gaming and into the franchise. I would not be shocked if the film got a massive bump in streaming after BG 3. It's a multi-marketing strategy by having multiple good products related to the same franchise at once, but neither are really particularly competing with each other and instead propping each other up.

Friends who discovered BG 3 and played together might suddenly feel the desire to see the movie. Friends who saw the movie on a whim and got interested in the series might pick up the game or the books.

On the mainstream Box Office Front, August/September lacked any major tent-pole film franchises. The summer box office was pretty front loaded for May-July. Honor Among Thieves would have had a much stronger shot in August by having good word of mouth and little competition.

Actually saw the movie the same day as Super Mario Bros. this year with a couple friends. The plan was to see this one first, but we switched the order to accommodate one's schedule that night.

Honor Among Thieves really came out at a bad time and I'm perfectly willing to die on that hill.

I'd like a sequel with these characters, but I'm curious... wasn't there also a DND series in development at Paramount? Has anything been heard of that?

I also keep seeing rumors of a Dragonlance adaptation, but I don't think they're true. I'd love it, though.

If there will be a sequel w/ the same party as this movie, I'd like for them to visit other parts of Faerun like Amn, Rashemen, Netheril, especially Halruaa. Though if they would visit the East Asia & Mayaincatec analogues of Faerun, I'd dread how the audience would react to the names Kara-Tur and Maztica.

As for the Blood War, it was originally a concept that began on Planescape in 2nd ed, 1st ed didn't have the Blood War, w/c was then imported over to Faerun, Greyhawk and a few others but remained outside of other settings like Eberron, Ravenloft, Dark Sun and maybe Dragonlance and Mystara. I think the idea was trying to explain how 2 different and diametrically opposed evil outsiders could exist as well as showcase the innate divisiveness of evil. It's also hinted that every other Outsider faction meddle in the Blood War to keep it going into a bloody stalemate and that includes Good Outsiders, Lawful Outsiders, Chaotic Outsiders and especially the 3rd species of fiends the Yugoloths (formerly known as daemons).

At least that's in Dn D. It's even more convoluted in Pathfinder where aside from the devils, demons and daemons there are a whole boatload of fiendish species like oni, rakshasha, devas and demodands who are spread out between the Lower Planes and the Material Plane not to mention other fiendish species w/ their own planes of operation like the sakhil and my personal favorite the kytons/velstracs of the Shadow Plane. And that's not even touching actual Lovecraftian entities like Cthulhu and co who are canon to Pathfinder.

Speaking of Lovecraftian, the Far Realm is another thing I'd like to see a future Dn D live-action series/movie tackle.

@Ink Dagger I don't think August would have made it fair any better, given the shadow of Barbenheimer.

Yeah. Hard to say when the right time would've been. Just continues to remind me of the incredible uphill battle that Power Rangers (2017) faced, so of course both movies respectively were overshadowed when they were.

If Baulders Gate gets an expansion during the upcoming film drought they could always try and time a short return of the film to cinemas to the expansion.

[up]x3

Fair, though I'd counter that Barbie and Oppenheimer were also coasting on a lack of competition after their initial success; I know multiple people who saw Barbie or Oppenheimer multiple times.

I also personally would lean more towards September anyway, but August is considered the end of the "Summer Box Office" season. September also lacked much competition and Barbie/Oppenheimer were both doing fine but dwindling by that point.

[up]Dead Reckoning was not a lack of competition. Even MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE couldn't break through it.

Much like Power Rangers 2017, it's apparently a pretty loyal adaptation of the material too. That definitely made the difference with the fans who saw it—though I would think that thanks to the Stranger Things boost that it would've indeed been a hit at the end of the day.
