Doesn’t help that the art is just awful.

I mean, I don't want to say the artist himself is bad (since the Martian Manhunter series he was on was gnarly in a good way), but the art in FS: LOSH feels...cluttered. Like a lot of stuff just sort of blur together.

Honestly, I'm at that point where my head hurts just from thinking about Bendis' Legion...

Uh pretty good actually at least compared to his other family.

War of the Worlds’s Earth plot has a lot of reminding of how great and inspirational a guy he is while on Warworld while enslaved and constantly killed by Mongul, Superman’s drive to free Warworld’s citizens without taking a life remain eternally strong. Issue ends with the high implication that Supes will inspire a rebellion on Warworld.

And Imperius Lex features a much older Supes and Lois on the council of planets dealing with Lexor. The 2 are well-characterized and charming especially in dealing with Lex’s extreme egotism and Lexor’s indoctrinated citizens.

So Kal came out looking the best out of his family though I haven’t read House of El yet.

[up] His art is better suit on experimental stuff like the Manhunter book. Putting him on a regular book is the worst thing you can do for his art.

Okay who hypes up something like “promises to be a character-defining masterpiece the likes of which has never been seen before for DC's Maiden of Might."

At least call it a masterpiece after it comes out and gets rave reviews

Just read Infinite Frontier #0:

I guess that whole bit about how Jon should not be Superman is basically DC saying "yeah, we done goofed with this one, didn't we?"

And who else saw Kathy Branden in that time-montage thing of Jon's life?! Because I responded to that like Rick Dalton when his part on F.B.I. was coming up!

[up][up][up] Goofed is an understatement, considering they portrayed Jon as a worthless Superman and Kara as a racist dick.

Well hey now Jon and damian can be buddies again when they all go evil tyrants. I kid but I do like that it was pointed out that Jon has been through some shit and it is probably affecting him. Instead of doing nothing with it just using it as an excuse to age him up. I won't mind adult Jon as much if they actually explore his trauma from being tortured by an evil version of his parents for 7 years

On further thought, you can see how forced Jon being Superman is when you notice that Yara and Jace are chronology over a decade older than him.

Like Jon's Batman in FT is not Damien, a contemporary and person he actually has a close relationship with, but Jace Fox a man he has absolutely no interactions with but is also prolly 20 years his senior.

He's closer in age to Andy Curry/Aquawoman but he's stuck interacting primarily with Yara because Superman can only just have a major relationship with either Batman or Wonder Woman.

Is Yara that much older than him? She seems about 18 in current day dc. Yeah Jon was artificially aged hut only 6/7 years

Well yeah she's not that older but still it is a bit of an unnatural friendship since they wouldn't be interacting otherwise if Jon wasn't forcibly aged up to adulthood.

And age doesn't equal actual growth, so Jon would be both very traumatized and kind of stunted for everything that happened with his sudden age up.

Its unclear how long everything exactly went but Jon's time on Earth-3 was being trapped in a volcano forced to listen to Ultraman's insane ramblings and with nothing to eat but the slaughtered pig he brings over.

And then after escaping, living as a homeless vagrant in a world where common morality is switched as he survives and avoids the Syndicate's attention long enough to find a way back home.

So yeah absolutely no time to mature or grow there especially in being trapped with a volcanoes with literally nothing to do.

its only like a 7 year difference and it seems they dont start being teammates till 20 years later when 7 years doesnt matter and jon has had time to actually mature. like jon and yara had good chemistry in their team book they seemed to be actual friends who cared about each other even if they disagreed, it sold me on adult jon. and not just because he punched the literal sun

I don't know Jon was pretty much an exact clone of his father in Superman/Wonder Woman.

Sure its better than how he was in So M but its not exactly good since he's pretty much identical to his father, right down to his world weariness over being a hero and having to constantly protect people making the succession redundant.

I feel Jon as Superman should be more jubilant and cheerful to better contrast him from his father.

[up][up][up] I still maintain that Jon didn't stay nearly as long as 7 years on Earth-3 and time shenanigans are why Jon looks 7 years older.

And why would Jon be aged up to be seven years older (in-universe, since we know out of the universe, Bendis probably wanted to have a Superkid in the Legion since Conner was going to be in Young Justice)? Not sure. Maybe the Time Trapper joined forces with Mr. Nobody to ruin the LOSH. (I've been watching a lot of Doom Patrol on HBO Max.)

Speaking of Conner, man, things went omega-south for our favorite clone boy, didn't they? One minute, he's chilling with Young Justice and now he's shackled up in a cell and getting coaxed into leading the Suicide Squad? I know we only have the one issue of Suicide Squad to work with, but this has to be a major slap in the face for whatever Bendis was trying to accomplish with Young Justice. Can't wait to see how it all fell down...

Infinite Frontier feels like both a slap to the face and an Author's Saving Throw regarding Jon's treatment in Future State.

On one hand, you have Spectre doing nothing but shit-talking Jon for no apparent reason while telling Diana that Jon is destined to become a tyrant and should never become Superman. Meanwhile, Diana is pointing out all the traits that would make him a great Superman and how he has far too much compassion to ever go down a dark path.

[up] In fairness, I like to think Spectre's shit-talking about how Jon shouldn't be Superman could be a massive "eff you" to what Bendis and DiDio were trying to achieve with him. Remember that Bendis was trying to make Jon the "true Superman" via Legion of Super-Heroes when they were buttering him up as such. And when Future State (made out of the remnants of what was going to be the new status quo DiDio was pushing for) doubled down on that "Jon becomes Superman" scenario, it also showed him thinking it was a great idea to shrink Metropolis.

Meanwhile, Diana's commentary can be interpretated as saying that Jon can still be saved, which should be happening during the coming months (knock on wood).

I would think that an ideal scenario would be Kid Jon and Teen Jon somehow meeting each other and Kid Jon's response to shrinking Metropolis is essentially "no, that's dumb." Which it is.

Worst case scenario, we can always take solace in Spectre (most likely) suffering death by Darkseid in Infinite Frontier's epilogue. evil grin

Ugh, Poor Lois, she has zero lines of dialogue, great first impression with her Johnson.

But other than that, it's a fairly good issue. Despite still being grown, Jon acts more like his old self here, reacting with more emotion to the gravitas of eventually becoming Superman at the cost of his father, and it's great to see the Super Family all living together again, and Jon's watching kids cartoons!
