The sequel actually looks like they put some thought into it. Rather than the home invasion plot of the first one, this follows around several groups of people out on the street. One group got caught out there because their car broke down, another is a group of poor people fighting for their lives, and there's one vigilante man who is out for revenge. It sounds like it might be a Surprisingly Improved Sequel.
What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly.Vigilante: Bingo. That sounds like the kind of character needed for the concept to work.
So I just saw the Nostalgia Critic's review and with what I know about the second movie, I wonder how come no terrorists groups or even foreign nations ave attempted to use the Purge as a cover to do damage to the nation's infrastructure?
I mean the only limits of the Purge is no WM Ds and no high-ranking government officials. It doesn't say don't blow up a power plant or oil refinery.
That is a Fridge problem. I guess that facilities like that would be heavily guarded by corporate security or military forces. The Purge only suspends emergency services; they don't say anything about the military.
Who knows, that could be the plot of another installment. Alternately, I wouldn't put it past the "New Founding Fathers" to keep a dossier of potential threats and have them eliminated during The Purge.
What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly.Has anyone seen the sequel? I saw the first one and thought it was complete garbage. Trailer advertised action. All I got was a drama riddled with cliches and bad acting with minimal action. What little action there was sucked.
Further, the characterization was also stupid. How can the family have no qualms about the purge but then freak out during murder? Shouldn't they be rather desensitized by now?
Is the sequel any better or does it also focus on one family that I cannot give two shits about and hoped they all died but instead the only people that die are a bunch of douchebags that have neither names nor faces?
The sequel? Well, it's a completely different genre. It ditched the horror aspect to be more of an anarchic action movie, with the city serving as a backdrop to go from one vignette of depravity to another. We have the ordinary family, but the real star is The Punisher. This is a Punisher movie, just with the names changed so they don't get sued.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatIt also gives us a more expanded view on the Purge, such as there being a La Résistance against the Purge, rich people auctioning off lives after kidnapping people off the streets and other things like that.
Further purging:
Ah, so from horror-thriller to political horror thriller. I can imagine that she'll be specifically targeted during the Purge because she'll stop it if she's elected and the NFF don't like that (seriously, look at that Omniscient Council Of Evil right there!) brought on by the fact that she was apparently once a victim of the Purge.

Politics are taken pretty seriously.
You think there'll be a metaphor to the Trump controversy?
Try imagining how far the universe extends! Keep thinking about it until you go insane.Someone on Twitter suggested it's a metaphor for the gun control debate; a politician tries to stop people from doing something that gets so many of them killed and is eaten alive for it.
That might fly over some heads if its true. In fact it would of probably flown over mine if I hadn't read that.
I do like the sounds of that though. But people aren't gonna watch it for the metaphors and messages; the Purge already established itself as an action genre with a slight hint of horror.
Also aren't politicians exempt from being hurt in The Purge?
Try imagining how far the universe extends! Keep thinking about it until you go insane.Yes.
And as we all know, people always follow the rules.
I'm Charlie Owens, good night and good luck. PSNID: CEOIII 1117It actually seems to be a thing about Bernie Sanders. Someone saying that said candidate that's a senator that wants to upend the status quo that's apparently widely supported by the common people but opposed by tons of higher-up powerful people.
Another movie incoming: The First Purge.
-looks at poster design- Oh, boy.
Panhandling sign glued to hands. Need $5 for solvent.…Wait, is this a real announcement or just a troll?
It's a legit movie announcement. Looks like they're going to make the purge great again.
YOU WERE ALL THINKING IT!! *runs*
I'm Charlie Owens, good night and good luck. PSNID: CEOIII 1117Probably should have seen this coming a mile off.
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders!Indeed.
I can't wait for all the Republican snowflakes to throw a shit-fit about being portrayed as murderous, greedy psychos.
No, let's be real.
They'll look at it and lobby for a purge the next day. Missaimed Fandom and Dramatically Missing The Point in one sweeping move.
“You think there'll be a metaphor to the Trump controversy?“
Well this comment just got hilarious in hindsight.
Controversy singular?
You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! Is it subtle? Not at all.
Do I like the Purge films despite how silly they are? I do.
I'm only upset if they don't bring back that secret agent dude from the second film. He's pretty much the soul of this franchise.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I liked how Jim Sterling described it.
"Having run out of ideas in the first film after the bizarre premise, they decide to spruce things up by first taking place in the actual heart of the Purge and second by throwing in the Punisher."
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.
Wat, this is a sequel? So there's more of this garbage? Oh gross
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.
