Posie Parker and her followers mock a cis-gendered woman abused by the police who chose to protect the British bigot.

Said person is Lidia Thorpe, a Senator.

Seems that all the appointment hours that NSW Liberals spent racking up at the ICAC paid off the way everyone expected it to, then.

(Not that NSW Labor has historically covered themselves in glory in that regard, *cough* Sam Dastyari *cough* Eddie Obeid *cough cough* Karyn Paluzzano)

That explains all the "wrong kind of bigot" jokes I've been hearing lately.

I'd say it's a case of "Even demons know" but knowing the former chip shop owner she's probably more worried about the optics or something.

Some news for The Indigenous Voice debate and the LNP

5 days ago Former Indigenous Australians minister Ken Wyatt ends Liberal Party membership over Voice to Parliament stance.

And just today Shadow Attorney-General Julian Leeser quits Liberal frontbench to support Voice to Parliament

Should clarify the difference that the second member isn't quitting the party, just the front bench since being apart of the front bench involves supporting the party's official stance more closely from my understanding.

Quack?

ABC: Premier Daniel Andrews under pressure to act on 'grey corruption' after IBAC report. Victoria's IBAC found that former senior figures in Andrews' cabinet were involved in awarding a lucrative contract to an allied health workers' union, which it called an unfair practice even if it didn't legally amount to corruption. Andrews downplayed the findings in a press conference yesterday, calling the report "educational" and promising to act on its recommendations.

ABC: WA Premier Mark McGowan ignites war of words with shadow defence minister Andrew Hastie. McGowan is currently in China on a trade mission (WA's mining economy is very closely tied to Chinese heavy industries), which quite predictably drew fire from the resident Liberal hawk.

McGowan's government saw an earlier controversy in 2021 when the newly-opened local production line of Transperth/Metronet trains (in collaboration with France-based contractor Alstom) was accused of sourcing parts from a Chinese subcontractor that allegedly employed Uyghur forced labour in Xinjiang.

Oh, and Melbourne apparently overtook Sydney as the biggest city, on a technicality — the Sydney boundaries used by the Australian Bureau of Statistics have long included swathes of the Central Coast hours away from the inner city. Melbs overtook it in net migration (both domestic and international) a while back; it easily won out after a slight boundary adjustment to account for its increasing density.

For half a moment, Sydney wondered if bleeding its inhabitants dry while steadily shedding its character was maybe not such a great idea.

It's hard to know whether the Coalition's official 'No' stance on the Voice is a disgusting political manoeuvre for the sake of opposition (i.e., it hurts the Albo Govt's political capital if they go to the effort of having a referendum and it fails), or just Dutton being his typical nasty, unDuttle self. Probably a combination.

It pissed me off right good when I saw Channel 7 running an absurd story about Dutton's stance, wherein he was having a PR shoot with some suburban family who'd been robbed in order to talk about how Labor wasn't addressing problems which were 'important' to 'ordinary Australians', like combatting crime. Because, you know, multitasking two entirely separate matters is impossible. (The news story itself did nothing to suggest it wasn't taking him seriously.)

The Coalition angle is essentially "nyer nyer left-wing academics and elites".

A lot of it is definitely ideological. A head guy from a conservative think-tank in Melbourne recently gave an interview to ABC Radio Perth where he called New Zealand's Parliament a puppet of Māori elites in the Waitangi Tribunal (which, for those unfamiliar, is an advisory body like the proposed Voice to Parliament and has zero policy-setting/veto power over the NZ Parliament's final decision). There's just a lot of right-wing hand-wringing over the idea that the Voice would give a handful of corrupt Indigenous politicians a blank check to wine and dine on taxpayer dollars, without actually improving things for the Indigenous population.

From July 1st, all Special Category Visa holders – the visa granted to most New Zealand citizens on arrival – will be able to apply for Australian citizenship, providing they have lived in Australia for at least four years and comply with other eligibility requirements. Twenty Anti-Trans White supremacist Neo-Nazis celebrated Hitlers birthday in Australia. - q news

Amongst it included Police who even took photos of them saluting a man who killed himself rather than face punishment. Including members who participated in Posie Parkers Anti-Women Anti-Trans campaigns last month.

Not that they saw the police as allies.

Thomas Sewell later posted to Telegram describing Thursday as a holy day.

“Despite not breaking any laws and not disturbing a soul, we were set upon by a dozen scum from Victoria Police who were terribly upset we were celebrating this holy day instead of the government-approved gay or paedophile holidays,

“Being confronted by systemic violence while our families and babies were present we were forced to eat our Hitler cake while being escorted from the shopping centre under threat of political violence.

“They persecute us because they know we are rising and the world will learn the truth about Hitler and look to us for leadership.”

Even the incredibly lenient treatment the police gave them — they simply told them to move along — was too much for these assholes.

Why Australia lags behind the rest of the world in taxing oil and energy giants

Unlike most other energy exporters, Australia has failed miserably to collect any meaningful revenue from our burgeoning gas export industry, a situation likely to change soon...

We now vie for global leadership in liquefied natural gas exports alongside Qatar, with exports last year valued at $91 billion. But our tax regime has failed to keep pace.

Apparently higher tax for miners is largely on the table because Australia's national finances are a mess.
