@jashin: Both were "suiting up" to get ready for the funeral... Or, in Graham's case, "not suiting up", because he doesn't have much more besides the clothes on his back.

...Hmmmmm... Maybe someone could lend the guy a suit, that would be a good reason to interact with him.

Well, I figure I can have one of the marines bump into him in the hall and seeing his state of dress, offer him a shirt and tie.

Well Harvey is actually in the mess hall now...er or rather he should be, I didnt really write him getting there yet, but anyway hopefully Harvey will get a lot more development once we get to the funeral and encounter the protesters. (Dammit Harvey y u no be easy to write.)

@guy: He just needs more interactions with other characters. Once that starts rolling, you'll see how his characterization will start writing almost on itself.

Well I'm sure there's more jobs than Base Commander, PR Director, and Mecha-related business. That and I'm sure there's more people than just Gerald, Samson, Leo, Alex, Simon, Vaughn and Sarah. So if needed I could introduce a character to interact with them.

Also, how do you feel about me helping to craft Vaughn, Simon, Sarah and Alex's back-story?

@KK: Kudos to you for that last post! That was an excellent and rather hilarious way to defuse that situation. I loved it because of how simple it was, and yet I didn't even thought about it!

I'll fill in Nolan's backstory soon. As for Vaughn, Simon, Sarah and Alex, I don't really think we need to fill in on their backstories. They'd be honestly boring other than "This war is terrible and I wanted to help stop the threat"

Then would it be okay if V constructed their backstories alone (besides the obvious of having to show it to you to get approval)? He seems to have already made something regarding Alex.

Either way, will you be posting soon to have Dan & Summer's reactions to Melissa, Alex, Simon, Vaughn and Sarah?

@JR: I think they actually have a lot of potential, specially the original trio, who seem to be more like a family nowadays, than just an ordinary group of friends.

And then there's Alex, who must have experienced something rather disheartening in his back-story, which in turn forced him to become more distant to people in general.

If you don't have inconvenient with the idea, I'd really like to drop sporadic hints to their pasts, in order to make them more life-like and endearing.

Honestly no. I don't see much reason to give these characters backstories either way. They're not going to be that interesting and as I made the chcracters up I imagined they all had the same reason to join.

If I may, how much did that comic anger Dan? Additionally, what was the reason Alex, Simon, Sarah and Vaughn joined?

@JR: Aaaaaaw... That's kinda disappointing, but if you say so... However, is there anything else you have about the characterization of the original trio? So that I can write them according to your vision.

...Specially Sarah, which I haven't written too much about yet, but I want to, because her friendship with Summer will help the pilot to grow a lot as a character.

That's too simplistic, you gave Alex's reason being partially for the money after all. I highly doubt people would just mass join an organization that's constantly under attack and that the public has issues with to some degree.

@KK: As Vaughn said during his encounter with Samson, he firmly believes in SERVE despite their shortcomings and the bad reputation some have given it, so their determination must be solid as steel despite the inherent dangers and short-comings of the job.

...Besides, JR is right to certain extent: Not every character has to be Celeste's levels of complex, because otherwise things start to get too complicated.

Dan's anger at that comic is the kind of anger you'd have if someone betrayed your best friend, while they're dead. How's that?

Each of them lost some family members to the Eldritchian War, this mixed with their specific interests (Vaughn, Simon and Alex are tech-heads and nerds, Sarah loved engineering and the look of the mechas), the need for some money and the general willingness to help save their planey anyway they can, is what made them join.

Dan hardly knew Hans and interacted most with Summer, Samson and Nolan.

Does it have to be family members? Casey seemed to be a friend/potential lover of Alex instead of family.

I was making a comparison to how Dan feels. To Dan, Hans is a good teammate who does not deserve all this crap, especially on the day of his funeral.

@KK: Hmmmmm... Right now, I think the strongest possibility would be that she was a friend, because that would explain why he doesn't want to form strong bonds anymore, in order to avoid suffering as he did when he lost Casey.

@JR: Casey is a girl that Alex mentioned during his past interactions with Faith. It was someone very important to her... Most likely his best friend ever.

Hmm yeah I think she could be the one that died and caused Alex to join SERVE so he could prevent such a thing from happening to anyone else.

So, are we still going to have Melissa's manga be a thing later or would you be against that?
