Man this first episode hooked me up. I was surprised Taiya is a "cool" type when the previews made it sound like he was gonna be hyper. And the suits really grow on me especially the ALL YOU NEED IS DRIVE mode. The glossy close up is also hilarious yet cool at the same time.

And the Terrible Trio gives me that "we were sent here because the higher ups think low of us" energy

So we basically got Team Rocket in a series where Satoshi/Ash is one of the important characters on the good side.

With the writer being the majority writer of Pokemon up to XY!

I finished watching Kakurangers for the first time, Jiraiya was my favorite!

Kakuranger was 1 of the pretty wild Super Sentai series w/c is why I liked it. From 1 Tsuruhime's focus ep being more of an excuse to have her actress (Hirose Satomi) reunite w/ her Shushutorian castmates, the Rangers' mobile HQ being a food truck possessed by a cat spirit, the sporadic appearance of the narrator, 1 of the funniest Monsters of the Week in Binbogami, and the Big Bad getting a couple moments of being the butt of the joke.

And let's not forget Kakuranger is the series that gave us the Friday in California meme

It has gotten to 4 episodes. Boonboomger has settled into a nice groove. I personally don't know what the purpose is for Highway Space scene in-story. The order of events goes The Monster of the Week Yaiyai Yarucar goes crazy off the Gyaughsoline, becomes giant and goes into Highway Space, The Sentai team follow in their vehicles, they knock Yarucar off the road, Yarucar burps the Gyaughsoline to make the Monster of the Week giant, the team uses Boonboomger Robo. We know what happens if they leave a giant monster to do whatever. But what is the significance of Highway Space?

Although the IRL justification is obvious enough (show formula, easy CGI scene, way to show off the cars a bit), it is indeed quite unclear what Highway Space means in-universe. The Hashaliens seemed pretty surprised themselves the first time it happened; hopefully we'll get some explanation at some point.

Overall I'm enjoying the show, although not as intensely as some other people seem to be. Mira's a fun character and while I'm less invested in Ishiro, his dynamic with the other two is fun. I'm finding Taiya kinda boring right now but I'm sure he'll get some proper development later. Bundorio is a lot of fun, I do tend to like the weird support characters (fun fact, the Super Sentai Restauraunt in Tokyo is offering the BoonBoom Curry for real). Genba seems cool, kinda neat that he's already a periphery part of the team but presumably he'll join properly soonish.

TTFC just revealed that the whole April Fool joke about Tonbo Ohger and Deka Yellow, is actually going to be released for real

Even as April Fools projects go, that's definitely a weird choice.

I have a question.

I udnerstand that the Sentai model has been subject to to parody (the Prism Rangers, Niji 6, The Force Fighters V, The Dragon Knights. Even Sentai itself got in the act with Akibarenger) and I want to ask that that seemed to be the most parodied superhero toku beyond the obvious factors of Power Rangers.

Kamen Rider by dint of being the other most well known one.

Ultraman, probably. It's certainly homaged a lot, whenever it's not outright parodied.

Definitely old news, but nobody's really brought it up: We have official teasers for both of the Kingohger VS movies.

There's the Donbrothers one, which looks like your typical misunderstanding scenario. Both teams end up in Hakabaka and I'm assuming they fight over it. Because god forbid Donbrothers do anything that isn't a misunderstanding. Also Minoru Ono comes back. They were really proud of this one character, weren't they?

The Kyoryuger one's more plot-relevant and involves an Alternate Timeline where Gira takes Dagded's place as Galactinsect head (by possession or bad luck unclear) and the Kingohgers seem like they have ironically-modified personalities (or are the retainers in this 'verse). Gives off a "DC Elseworlds" vibe. This is apparently where Utchy and Daigo ended up and so do the primary Kings at some point.

Rita in that alternate timeline really does pull off the otokoyaku in Takarazuka Revue look.

Thoughts on Boonboomger's latest episode:

If Gira trusts people to a fault sometimes Taiya has the exact opposite problem: he's circumspect to a fault at times. By withholding crucial information from part of his team he ends up compromising their teamwork, and by choosing to take on MadRex alone he's implicitly saying he can only trust them so much. There's potential for an interesting character arc there.

One thing I like about the Reiwa Sentai is how willing they are to move away from the archetypes of the franchise even as they make newer archetypes.

Other than the colossal fuck up mess that was Don Brothers, yeah, its been pretty ok so far.

Agreed! I do appreciate how experimental Reiwa Sentais have been.

Donbrothers annoys me to no end and I loathe Inoue's writing style, but goddammit did it have fun ideas. It set up a lotta fun dominoes. Meanwhile, Kingohger is prolly the most ambitious Sentai I've seen in a long damn time - The kings are well-done deconstructions of a lotta drama archetypes and Gira's also there, too.

I find it kinda funny that "Obligatory backstabber/mysterious dude with an agenda" is steadily becoming a staple of almost all the recent teams. It's very Rider and I appreciate it.

From what little I've seen of Taiya, he feels like a smoother attempt at Taro free of Inoue-isms. A Lighter and Softer version of Taro's insensitivity with someone like Taiya could prolly work. It'd be like what Shinkenger did with Takeru, almost.
