Equestria Girls: A MLP:FiM Spin Off

Its more of a Vocal Minority. Part of it stems from surprise more than anything else I think. We've known about a 66-minute episode in the works for months, I think around the time Season 3 started. Most had assumed it would be directly related to Friendship is Magic or some kind of 30th Anniversary Special for the franchise (it technically turned 30 last year, but Hasbro is celebrating it this year), not a human High School AU spinoff.

ADDITION: Also what Sera said, My Little Pony without the PONY! Its like the time Hasbro made Transformers that don't TRANSFORM!

@Seraphem: And to be fair, for what I've seen at least, MLP fandom seems (relatively) sane, to the point I think I've actually seen more "OH MY GOD STOP YELLING RUINED FOREVER AND LET'S WAIT AND SEE" discussions than "RUINED FOREVER" discussions

Right now, I don't think EG will be as good as MLP:Fi M. I don't why know my expectations are low though having low expectations would be more fair for the spin off.

Also, is there already official artwork of the ponies as humans? If there is, I'm having trouble finding it so a link please.

This news makes me wish even more that Lauren Faust is still with the show.

Well, not like that would matter. From what we know, this isn't from the same people that run the show. So more reason for it not to be thought highly of. Since it's the DHX staff that makes the show so good.

Well if we're lucky the new show will keep the voice actors and will be staffed by Promoted Fanboys (Runing The Asylum will be a problem but at least the bronies will know the characters well)

DHX is doing the TV Movie, we don't know who's writing it. Most of the MLP writers are freelance based in LA if I recall correctly.

This is rumored to be a leaked concept still, but its not confirmed. Even if it is they might not even be the final designs.

@Anthony: Really, any drama in the MLP fanbase is usually %5 people stirring up shit, 10% people yelling at the first five percent to shut up, and 85% people who just sort of go with it and see what happens. Unfortunately, that first %15 percent of the fanbase makes like 90% of the noise.

There were rumors for a while that Hasbro actually wanted to introduce humans to Friendship is Magic, especially when Hasbro filed a trademark for "Equestria Girls" that included dolls (which are separate from "pony toys"). Its possible someone, looking at all the rumors spreading around, spend a month or two putting together something that looks like the DHX style and "leak" it on tumblr to get the fandom riled up.

Honestly? I think that image is too detailed and the designs too unlike what bronies usually do with humanizations for it to be fake. Then again, it is the Internet... but do take it with a grain of salt.

Bottom line, nothing official art wise has been released.

Well, of course! Fan Dumb and drama exist in every fandom, Real Life or Internet, but even taking in count the Vocal Minority, MLP fans are somehow sane and patient (at least, for what I perceive).

Now, my brother just made a very good question, that seems very simple at first but...OK, here it goes: the girls will be named with their pony names? Or will they have "human" ones?

Good question.

And yeah for all people bitch about it, the drama is fairly low key, is mostly perpetuated through people bitching about the drama, not actual causes of drama. And it all tends to blow over with no lasting impact.

It's an interesting twist, but I feel there were lots more opportunities for a spin off with better potential. Rather than just doing 'the mane cast but in a different universe' we could have explored a different part of the original universe, different species and characters and what not, which may have had good connection to the main show and added to it's world building.

Hell even the original intention of giving the CMC their own show seems like it could hold up longer. It's not a horrible idea, but it's fanfic-ish material in concept and seems generic amidst the overgrowing amount of high school sitcoms.

Eh, given all we have to go on is the name of the IP and one still that might not even be legit, we're really in no position to make guesses about what it'll be like.

I thought a promo image had been found, or have I fell victim to a hoax.

If you're talking about the humanized image, most rumors are that it's a piece of concept art, not an actual still from the show. As a result, it's entirely possible that the show itself might look different.

Ah. Well abiding the final idea is at least similar, my opinion still stands.

Yeah, I just can't get excited over the images where they have the typical stick-figure bodies. What's the "hook" for this gonna be?

Hopefully anthropomorphism of the mane 6 (but up 90% human at most)

Also, if they go horseback riding, what will their horses' names be?

Hmm, interesting. Well, seeing as all I know is that it intends to do a humanization spinoff of it, I'll wait and see before I judge anything. I'm not pessimistic like some in here seem to be or going to be blindly optimistic just because it's part of the Fi M brand. Just accepting things at face value and hoping for the best.
