From out of the shadows, they came. At the sound of innocents screaming, they came. At the sight of injustice wrought, they came. In the early years of the 20th Century, the Mystery Men and Super Heroes rose up from the ranks of ordinary men and women. The Second World War was igniting, and cruelty and darkened ambition were on the rise. In these times, when despots and villains would spread misery across the globe, there were those who would use their incredible powers to fight back against the shadows. Their identities were shrouded in mystery and colourful uniforms. The abilities bestowed upon them defied most explanation. But these mighty beings gave their all to defend the common folk, and to destroy the hate and tyranny of oppressors. In time, the war was lost and it was won. The common folk celebrated as evil withered away, and took joy in their new lives. But what of the Super Heroes, their protectors? They disappeared from the public eye, either slipping back to simple, common lives, or else vanishing entirely. It was for the best: the world didn't need heroes any more.

But the common folk were grateful, and wished to pay tribute to their warriors. They told their children of the chivalrous knights of their ages, and erected monuments in celebration of those valiant ones. Then, before long, two cities stumbled upon two great buildings. These were the secret bases, the homes of the Justice Society, a nigh-on pantheon of these heroic demigods. The two cities saw fit to honour their guardians by renovating the buildings into museums, to serve as eternal reminders of the brave and the bold. The first city, in the east, was known colloquially as Steel City, Pennsylvania. The second, in the west, became convinced their base was where the Justice Society received a jump-start, and so they changed its name to Jump City, California.

Years passed, and much of the world grew up without mystery men. There were some resurgences, however; every decade or so, a man would be endowed with incredible power or skill, they would dress in clothes reminiscent of the time before, and they would take it upon themselves to battle crime. They would be met with praise and cynicism, mostly restricted to their city, until they two would vanish in a blaze of glory. Then one day, near the turn of the century, the outbreak began. Children would develop strange new powers, that would fly in the face of conventional science. They would be met with awe and admiration, but also with fear and distrust. Some would use their skills to help others, most would tear the world apart for their own game. So it only stood to reason, that not so long ago, the New Age of Superheroes began.

Not that Jump City cared much about this. They were on the other side of the continent, living in sun, surf and so much fun. Sure, there were the occasional mutant kids, and there was the occasional ruckus with some goon in tights. But compared to the Eastern Seaboard? The people in Jump City sat in their bright rooms with their snacks, watching the news of superhero exploits. They saw in Gotham how the Batman battled against a colourful cavalcade of crime, in Metropolis how the otherworldly Captain Marvel kept the cities clean, and of course in New York...oh, New York...they saw how mutant tensions boiled over, and an assortment of many superheroes battled armies of roguish scum. But that was so far away, and Jump City was here. No superheroes out and about, and not a villain to worry them.

...until now.

__________________________________

HIYA everybody! By popular demand, this is the spin-off to my very successful superhero RPG, Justice Avengers. Here's the basic premise: The Marvel and DC universes have been rebooted, to become the exact same universe. Characters, locations and concepts are replaced and merged where necessary.

This game will be located in Jump City, in California. You may recognise the name from the old Teen Titans cartoon. As you can probably guess, this means this game will have a more...Saturday Morning Cartoon feel to it. As in, it will probably be lighter in tone than the original game, and have more room for ridiculous plotlines and fantastical characters. That's not to say that this game won't have dark and scary storylines, and it may be that some of the plots have increasingly shady undertones. But this game will more likely prioritise childish fun over teenage angst.

Now, for characters. This being a crossover RP of sorts, players are required to select a pre-existing character to play. This means no fandom characters, and really, just about any character trait you can think of has in all likelihood been covered. However, this being a reboot world, you may reboot and reinvent your character however you see fit. I recommend you check out this guy, this guy and these guys for demonstrations of a reboot done right. Also, be careful that your character isn't already taken. Check the other Sign-Up threads (included below) or ask around to see if a character's being used, OR if that character can't be picked up by someone else.

Template:

  • Name: (Superhero identity)
  • Real Name: (Civilian identity)
  • Gender: (Male/Female)
  • Age: (Doesn't have to be exact. Could be just "Late 20's" or "Teenager")
  • Appearance: (A description is fine, but pictures are preferred.)
  • Alignment: (Good, Evil, or Anti-Hero/Villain)
  • Personality: (How they act around people)
  • Powers and Abilities: (Pretty self explanatory. No ridiculously overpowered superheroes or supervillains, and no completely invulnerable ones either. At least make them feel pain.)
  • Weapons and Equipment: (Same as above)
  • Origin: (If you like, this can happen during the RP itself)

If you like, I MAY allow a small team of superheroes. But this group must be reasonably small in number, and so cohesive and suited to each other they are almost one entity. These instances will be taken on a case-by-case basis, though members of teams such as the Power Pack or Metal Men are not unwelcome.

Note: As the GM, I, and any co-G Ms I may enlist, reserve the right to select characters as NP Cs. If you were hoping to play that character at some point, then I apologise in advance. BUT, I may see fit to pass the character onto a successor, or at the very least, you might be able to play an Expy of said character.

All that aside, general rules of conduct apply. No godmodding, no autohitting, no meta knowledge, and no generally being an arsehole. Hope you enjoy!

I'm not sure what I feel more awkward about, that I seem to be the first applicant or that my character is a villain. Well, here goes...

Name: Johnny Sorrow

Real Name: Unknown

Gender: Male

Age: Ageless

Appearance: Behold, Jump city's greatest foe!

Alignment: Villain

Personality: In a word, manipulative. In spite of his unique powers, Sorrow prefers to deal with situations by talking to his enemies, making them see his own particular brand of reason. Years in the acting business have also given him a flair for the dramatic, which leads to his use of antiquated language and grand gestures (including “iconic” crimes). But when he is well and truly angry (which is a rare thing to witness), an entirely different figure makes himself know. Gone is Johnny Sorrow the melodramatic schemer, replaced by Johnny Sorrow the sadistic manservant of an unknowable god. But he is even tempered and this side of him rarely appears.

Powers and Abilities:
Intangibility – Johnny isn't solid, not always. His usual form is ethereal, allowing him to walk through walls and ignore physical damage.
Horrific Visage – when Johnny takes his mask off, any who see his true face are paralysed and, unless they have inhuman mental fortitude, are scared to death. However, Johnny must become tangible to use this power.

Weapons and Equipment: Johnny himself never carries weapons or gear, but he often finds himself employing those who do. Be it amateur supervillains trying to make their mark or more run-of-the-mill urban mercs, Johnny is very rarely without disposable minions.

Origin: In his past life, Johnny was a silent film actor. This much is known. It is also know that the appearance of talkies drove him out of the business – he didn't have the voice for it. Destitute and desperate, Johnny turned to a life of crime, making use of a variety of theatrical gadgets and special effects to make his way. His biggest score was an experimental teleportation belt that the allies had planned to mass-produce to win the war.
Well it's a good thing they didn't. During a scuffle with the Justice Society, Johnny attempted to teleport out and the belt was damaged. He was vaporised instantly, leaving nothing but his smoking boots.
Or rather, that's where the Society left it.
In actuality, Johnny's mind had been teleported to a place known as the subtle realms. There he came into contact with an entity that named itself the King of Tears. It needed a vessel on earth and constructed a body for Johnny to inhabit, under the condition that he now served his new master's will when he returned to earth.
By the time his body was finished and Johnny was sent back the way he came, times had changed. Gone were the men and women that had destroyed his original form, and gone too was the age of heroes. Or so it seemed... as Johnny has spent time exploring his surroundings he has learned that heroes seem to be returning. And in numbers. And the whispers of his master grow ever stronger...

  • Name: The Flash
  • Real Name: Wallace "Wally" West
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: Early 20's
  • Appearance: The fastest man alive. And that's a good thing.
  • Alignment: Villain. Nah, just joking with ya! Hero, of course!
  • Personality: Wally is a gift from god- I mean, an egotistical wise-cracking young man who always has an eye out for the ladies and is often characterized as being annoying. You see, Wally can be irresponsible and impatient... and he can also treat gigantic threats with a funny comment (or a failed attempt at one)... but he's also friendly, compassionate, heroic and brave, being a very down-to-earth idealistic hero, genuinely caring for the people he protects. Especially the ladies.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Super-Speed: Well, duh. You can't go around saying you're the fastest man alive without proof... Wally can also use his superspeed not only to run really fast, but also to produce whirlwinds by rotating his arms at an incredible rate or running in circles. He can also vibrate his molecules at tremendous speed, allowing him to pass unharmed through solid objects- but thanks to this ability's destructive capacity, Wally doesn't use it very often.
    • "Enhanced" Strength: Wally's no Power Girl, but thanks to the sheer speed and momentum his body can generate, he can produce the same results. Since his body is naturally protected from most of the effects of his speed, the ultra-fast punches and movements of Wally's limbs can produce devastating impacts.
    • Hyper-Accelerated Metabolism: Wally gets very hungry very easily. We're not kidding on this one.
  • Weapons and Equipment:
    • Costume Ring: A small ring containing his costume, compressed to a tiny fraction of its normal size. He can press the button on the side of the ring and get dressed in just a few seconds thanks to his super speed. What? It's no Green Lantern ring, but it's awesome!
  • Origin:
    • Wally West isn't the first man to become the Flash. When he was just a teenager, he went through the same freak accident at a lab his uncle, Barry Allen, went through. Once he left the lab, he found out he had the same powers as the Flash. Barry decided to let Wally in a little secret: he was the Flash, the original one. And so, the two fought crime as Flash and Kid Flash, protecting the city.
    • However, life wasn't exactly fair to Wally. He soon developed a sickness that would kill him if he used his powers, but that was fixed up: at the cost of the life of his uncle. Barry sacrificed himself, saving the city from the most dangerous of Professor Zoom's plans, one that could end up endangering the whole world. Everyone who witnessed the fight said Zoom and Barry were going so fast, that the two seemingly disappeared, forever. Wally was not there to see his uncle disappear, as he had been hit by an energy blast earlier that cured him from his disease. Unsure about taking up his uncle's mantle as the Flash, Wally took some time to mull it over, eventually deciding that it was time for the Flash to be reborn.
    • Wally has been acting as the Flash for almost a year and a half now, and he has decided to move to Jump City, not only to take care of some of his enemies (who have decided to change cities in order to successfully use their highly advanced technology that could easily destroy an entire city to... rob banks) but also to talk with his mentor, Makkari, about something new and unusual in his life. An odd feeling that happened whenever he went too fast. A feeling his mentor referred to as the "Speed Force".

"Sure hope this Speed Force thing doesn't lead to another reboot..."

Name: Starfire

Real Name: Koriand'r

Gender: Female

Age: Unknown, though she is a young adult by Tamaranean standards.

Appearance: What a glorious RP!

Alignment: Good

Personality: She is extremely open compared to humans. She is also more sensitive to the emotions of others and would prefer people to be friends. However, when need be, she will be a no nonsense warrior.

Powers and Abilities:

Tamaranean Solar Absorption: Starfire's alien physiology constantly absorbs ultraviolet radiation and converts it to energy. This power also enables Starfire to perform the following feats:

  • Flight: Like all Tamaraneans, Starfire can channel this energy to allow her to take flight.
  • Limited Invulnerability: While Starfire and other Tamaraneans are not as invulnerable as Power Girl is, she is invulnerable to most types of damage.
  • Super Strength: Like all Tamaraneans, Starfire has strength above that of a mere human.
  • Starbolts: Like all Tamaraneans, Starfire has the power and ability to channel and project this energy into destructive blasts called "starbolts."
  • Linguistic Assimilation: Like all Tamaraneans, Starfire is also capable of assimilating other languages through physical contact with another person. This power is the reason she knows English.

Okaaran Martial Arts: Like all in the royal family of Tamaran, Starfire has been trained by the Warlords of Okaara in martial arts. As such, even without her powers, she is still an effective martial artist.

Weapons and Equipment: She has no real equipment to speak of.

Origin: Born a princess on the planet Tamaran, Koriand'r was the chosen heir of her planet despite being the second born in her family. However, the first born, Komand'r, saw herself as being more worthy to rule Tamaran and sought to eliminate her sister. As the Tamaraneans had been at war with the Gordanians, Komand'r offered to give her sister to the Gordanians as a slave and betray her location to them in exchange for peace, which they readily agreed to. Koriand'r was barely able to escape from the Gordanians' clutches, and sought out help from the Ma'aleca'andrans. However, thanks to the damage the Gordanians had done to her ship, she was forced to land on another planet... Earth. Now unable to return to Tamaran and thankfully able to pass herself off as the mutant Kory Anders, Koriand'r strives to make this strange, wonderous planet her new home as the superheroine... Starfire!

Hmmm, so... Juggling a few ideas right now, one of which is trying to do Mary Marvel as a more typical magical girl (again; although once more I fear she'd be too powerful, so nerfs or even a complete powerset overhaul would be in place), another of which is Mysterio (because he's the best Spider-man villain and I will fight anyone who says otherwise), but...

...Would anyone kill me if I made a Lighter and Softer Ghost Rider who... Basically looked like this but more on fire? >.> <.<

Let's try this again...

  • Name: Mister Bones
  • Real Name: Robert Todd.
  • Gender: Male.
  • Age: Late 20's to early 30's. I think.
  • Appearance: [1] [2]
  • Alignment: Evil (although he reformed at one point, make of that what you will)
  • Personality: Despite his appearance, Bones is not an especially nasty person - he has a keen sense of honor and is quite brave in most situations. Due to his role in Helix, he often assumes a protective or big-brotherly mentality when part of a group.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • His skin, flesh, and organs are all transparent, giving him the appearance of a skeleton.
    • His skin constantly exudes a toxic compound which is almost invariably lethal to anyone who touches him. As a corollary, he is immune to most poisons.
    • His strength and stamina is significantly greater than that of the average human, but not so much that he could really be classified as "superhuman".
  • Weapons and Equipment: None.
  • Origin: (Dr. Benjamin Love, a gynecologist, injected six pregnant women with an experimental mutagenic drug. Each of the women gave birth to a metahuman child. Dr. Love kidnapped the infants and raised them himself, never allowing them to leave the house. The children learned all they knew from books, radio, and television. After the supposed death of Dr. Love, the six young adults learned the true story of their origin from reading Love's diary. They decided to become like a super-hero group since they had powers - even fixing themselves costumes of a sort and calling themselves Helix as a reference to their altered DNA. However they had had little contact with the outside world so far, and even the impressive provisions Love had stockpiled started running out. This lead them to the decision to commit crimes to gain money. For the purposes of the game, we can assume Helix went their separate ways at some point previously.

  • Name: Giant Girl
  • Real Name: Janet van Dyne
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: Mid to early 20's
  • Appearance: Yep, thats the Hulk in her hand.
  • Alignment: Good
  • Personality: Janet hardly ever acts her age, especially when it comes to superheroing. She can get easily excited and crack jokes during a serious moment, especially if she has someone to joke around with. Even before she became a super hero, Janet always had a desire to help people, usually through charity or other beneficial events. Despite her upbringing, Janet doesn't have the best grasp on money and is not afraid to throw down with super villains.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Size Changing: Thanks to her suit, Janet has the power to change how big, or small, she is. The suit uses Pym Particles and can be used to make her grow as tall as a building or as small as a mouse. You can guess which one Janet prefers to do. She usually grows in order to intimidate or stomp out a bad guy, but if the situation calls for it she can shrink. Its just a pain in the ass to get around when you are two inches tall.
    • Insect Communication: Janet doesn't know about it yet, but included in her suit is the ability to communicate with and control insects.
  • Weapons and Equipment: None, unless you count money I guess.
  • Origin: Janet is the oldest daughter of the president of van Dyne Industries, a research and design company that has had some great success in the past. She was always the most active of her siblings though, throwing or attending charity events all over. She even has her own section of the company that she runs along with her father, van Dyne Designs. This was fine and all until super powered bad guys started to show up in Jump City, her home town. Along with the loss of the original Flash, she felt that something needed to be done. Thats why she called up a friend of hers in New York, Hank Pym, and told him to make her a super hero. Luckily he was already working on a harness that uses his Pym Particles on a person. It took a little while, but eventually he sent her the Giant Girl outfit. Now she uses some of her spare time to clean up the streets so to speak.

Sorry I'm late, folks. Was busy doing a recap of the threads, of which I have completed...One stinking day.

Hmm. To be honest, Sorrow and Bones are sounding a tad grimdark. But if you think you can handle them so they don't go overboard, then they're fine by me. Starfire and Flash are most definitely accepted. (Edit: Oh, and Giant Girl too!)

Bindlestick: Now, come, come, come, my boy. That was so long ago, and since then, you've managed to have Finn around as a character for a very long time. Certainly longer than I've kept Freakazoid going over there. If you like, I could let you play as Animal Man, and I won't hold it against you if you do slip off the radar.

Moerin: Could be a tad hard to give a definitive list of all the NPCs, but I'll give it my best shot. Just so you know, Mysterio was one of the earlier enemies in New York. Currently, the Wesleigh Dodds Sandman has him supplying illusions and pulling cover duty. For now, at least. If you like, I could find another Master of Illusion that you could make an expy of him. But as for my recommendation: your old idea of a revamped Mary Marvel could fit very well with the scene.

Deadbeat: Very sorry about that, old chum. Suppose I should have asked you first... maybe I could find you an expy for her?

Vox: Ah, Vox! Just the man I wanted to talk to. Did I hear you say a while back that you were interested in Ben Grimm?

I wouldn't say that Bones was grimdark at all. In the comics he later becomes a good guy and ends up leading the Department of Extranormal Operations, which in this universe would probably be a subsidiary of SHIELD or something like that.

Ben Grimm? I hadn't really thought about him. What did you have in mind?
