Unified Warhammer Fantasy thread

I noticed lack of one general thread regarding Warhammer Fantasy, so I decided to create a one. :)

Not only Warhammer Fantasy Battle discussions welcomed, but also all things related to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (regardless of edition).

If anyone has questions regarding Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay's second edition, feel free to ask since I own most of its sourcebooks.

Warhammer 40,000 has its own thread here

Age of Sigmar is a really cool idea, the problem was how they went about creating it. The End Times came about through a large number of characters acting completely out of character and a ton of Ass Pull explanations to justify how things turned out (seriously, "Malekith only had to remain in the flames for a bit longer and he would have been accepted", what bullshit) and the first edition of AOS was quite mediocre in quality rules-wise.

Overall there are some issue, mostly this:

-End times as whole was rushed as hell, with only four book and just a couple of novel AT best, compared this to horus heresy who have over 50 books to flesh up stuff(and even then some stuff were only barely conceptualize, russ and the cabal being one of them), this create issue like using deus ex machina liek nurgle plague that destroy marinburg, or pasing stuff like kisvlet being destroy off screen or the fact many chararter die without even seen it, I mean josh reynold have to show what happen to plenty of chararter in his ask actually.

-Another stuff is that Age of sigmar while good is FAR away of being fantasy, is like blowing off forgotten realms and saying planescape and spellhammer are the new thing with barely some conexion to it, to the point I wander if really the old world have to die in order of this game to exist because quite frankly, aside of some name chararter it share very little(in the same way most of D&D dosent invalided planescape), people who were into warhammer would have feeling more warm if age of sigmar complement the stuff rather than replace it but because it did it create a very old coke vs new coke.

-And finally, little after Ao S birth GW change managment that have make sustancial improvement in how to deal with their games, aside of licencied more and more games, being more people friendly in social media, treating the costumer with some sort of respectand in their setting, making control changes rather than blow it up, I mean awaking guillman, destroyed cadia and unleashing a warpstorm....pretty big deals and yet it was made a step by step, one cant stop thinking that have this change f manage cacth before things would be very different.

Warhammer: Old World has a new map. That does look cool but I still prefer the original black and white one.

Jeez, the Empire has a lot more forest than I thought.

Yeah, most of the Empire was, like, pure forest with incidental settlements. It's why the Beastmen were such an issue.

The southernmost provinces like Wissenland and Averland are mostly Not Forest, and as such are the Empire's breadbasket with a lot more farmed land. But the upper 80%-70% of the Empire is almost just pure forest with civilization carved into little niches of it.

[up][up]Considering is based on germany is not surprising.

What is surprising is that it look everyone else barely have forest, did all the tree move to the empire?.

Nah, that looks broadly consistent with the old maps. Hell, I'd say the other forests are slightly bigger.

[up][up][up][up]Well, the Empire is mostly forest, and most of the surrounding land is mountains or open terrain. Bretonnia only has two forests of any size, Kislev is mostly open steppe, Norsca, the Badlands and the Troll Country are wasteland, and the southern countries are broadly Mediterranean coast right up the mountains. There was a reason so many groups fought over the fertile lands of the Empire before Sigmar.

And, like, the Empire is forest first, all other terrain types a distant second. There are excerpts about how a person can travel steadily through the roads of the Empire for weeks without seeing the sun break the canopy even once.

Double checked one of Mad Alfred's maps and yeah, the Empire is almost a single biome state, the main exceptions to dense forest are Averland and Wissenland in the south, as well as East Stirland (Sylvania). Everything else apart from the Middle Mountains poking out through the canopy, the large rivers and the small enclaves where humanity has eked out a living is basically wall to wall forest.

You would think that Sigmar would have done what he did with the Norscans and go through the forests in a massive campaign to annihilate the Empire's Beastmen. Then again I imagine with the Chaos invasion and then Nagash he might not have had the time.

[up]I feel like that would have been a temporary measure at best, because the Beastmen are literally everywhere* and breed very quickly (somehow, despite almost all of them being male), so while a wholesale anti-Beastman war would probably have gotten ride of most of the Empire's population more would just have come along from elsewhere later on. Forests and other lands with heavy cover are their ideal environment anyway, so an area of very heavy forest cover with few to no native Beastmen would have been very attractive ground for wandering herds.

* Well, except the Dark Lands because there's no cover of any sort to help them avoid protracted attrition wars or set up ambushes and guerrilla fighting, Ulthuan because the Beastmen needs Chaos to exist and Ulthuan wouldn't exist if Chaos corruption was present there, and Lustria because the Lizardmen kill any Beastmen who wander in.

[up]There are actually huge amounts of female beastmen-we see some in one of the Gotrek and Felix stories. They stay in the temporary camps or near the herdstones, tending the young and taking care of what few domestic things the lazy males can't be bothered with. Having a large female population raising the young in hidden, sheltered, nearly unassailable places means the male beastmen can throw their lives away with reckless abandon in combat or internecine conflict; their numbers are only held in check by the available food they can hunt. Similar to the skaven, the way to really hurt them is to hunt down their hiding places and burn them out; but most people are too afraid to try, and the rest fail often enough to disincline the rest even further.
