[up] I think most of the animals are just mutated which is why they can still reproduce. Although I have heard a case be made for yao guai's being ghoulifed bears as you can find one in Point Lookout that was apparently a circus bear before the war but considering that you can run into yao guai cubs in Honest Hearts its possible that the radiation doesn't affect them the same way and they aren't rendered sterile.

The radio demon – a fallout 4 story

The raiders were gathered around a campfire, pickings had been slim recently and they were low on drugs, so they were swapping stories. “Scariest thing I’ve ever seen? That got to be the radio demon.”

“What the fuck is that?” Said another raider, laughing.

“If you shut the fuck up I’ll tell you! Now where was I..oh,yeah, the radio demon. We was looking for a new spot, you know rough up some traders, shake down some travellers when this old radio, busted thing, started playing this weird music, never heard anything like, big Sal, this guy I used to run with he takes offence, hits that radio until it stops, but then we hear it. This guy, fancy clothing, skin as black as night, red eyes, is singing, like that same damn song. Now big Sal is fucking pissed, he just throws himself at this guy. Now this guy is carrying a titchy little blade, like a switch blade or something but one tap from this thing and Big Sal just, just, explodes.

“What? No way!”

“Way man, we had bits of him raining down on us! Anyway, the rest of the gang, they’re not going to just let this nutjob get away with this so we open fire with everything we have. But get this, most of our bullets don’t even hit this guy! And Ripper, you knew Ripper right? His bullets just bounce right off this guy! I was there when his fucking head exploded. And this guy, is still singing, stupid shit eating grin on his face, like he’s having the fucking time of his life!”

“Didn’t matter what we hit him with, grenades, bullets, big Bruno even hit him with a mini nuke, didn’t do shit! And he was fast like, so fast you didn’t see him until he was right in your fucking face! So, I’m pissing myself, you know, so I run and I swear, the moment I dropped my gun and ran, he just kind of...lost interest in me, like he couldn’t even fucking see me.”

“I hid, the only reason I’m still here. Can’t forget that damn voice...” He said shivering.

The raiders fell silent, the only song was diamond city radio, from a old radio in the distance, it was playing butcher Pete, but it was replaced by static, but just as the raiders got up to hit it again they heard it.

“Stars shining bright above you, Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you",Birds singing in the sycamore tree...”

Just in the distance they saw him, fancy clothes, skin as black as night, red eyes, the widest smile.

“Dream a little dream.... of me”

Bare in mind that pretty much all of that would be possible for a high level character in the vanilla game.

Thanks. I thought of it when I heard there were a serious of stories told by raiders in the game and wondered what stories they might tell after encountering the sole survivor. That and Alastor from Hazbin Hotel.

I've sunk hundreds of hours into Fallout 76, after buying it for really cheap, and I have to say I like it a lot. It's not the best of the series but in terms of actually playing the game, I've had more fun with it than either Fallouts 1 or 2.

Though to be fair I did get it after a lot of patches was added to the game - I've heard that the launch was a trainwreck of near-biblical proportions, so I'm glad I missed that.

I've been pondering trying it myself, as I've heard it's a lot better. If I didn't have a game backlog as it is, and besides my Cyberpunk RED group commitments lol.

The glitches seem to be particularly tied to power armor. People would have fatal crashes when they entered or exited in certain locations. I never used power armor, and had a great time of it.

That said...

I sort of hate how strong power armor is. PVP is basically impossible without it, and outrageously, it doesn't slow you down to wear it. Back when Hardcore Mode was a thing, I met up with at least one griefer who could take a fully charged, instigating gauss rifle blast (with nine damage boosting perks attached) to the face and barely get damaged, and could actually chase me down and outgun me at point blank range while wearing it. They must have had a whole bunch of mutations, because I'm pretty sure they could outrun me while i was sprinting, and they were just jogging.

This gun could one shot Super Mutant Overlords. This gun could kill a Scorchbeast in one magazine's worth of fire. This gun should have destroyed him, and it just pinged right off his Power Armor. Took less than 1/20th of his hp bar.

You're gonna notice on your screen a series of numbers that are increasing at an alarming rate. Those of you with an eye for fashion will no doubt know that those represent time. In order to understand the pain I put myself through over the course of a single 4 day period, you need the timer. It will help keep things in perspective. With my character as true to life as inhumanly possible, I immediately f**ked up by not being broken on every level. The curtains don't yet match the drapes. Using a console command named after a joke I refuse to let die, the condition of both my arms, both my legs, my chest, and head are all set to 0. Thankfully by captain crunching my bones through the power of prayer, no amount of medicine will heal me. I can still use Stimpaks and other healing items while my limbs remain 100% crippled at all times. In that batch command is also a command to set my carry weight to 1.

Unlike my New Vegas Godless Pacifist run that I did on a whim, this one I did not. I thought I had a pretty good handle on things after I assigned my points, but a series of misfortunes happened to land on my lap. I'm not ready for that, you're not ready for that, let's come back to it. These are how I assigned my SPECIAL points so I could get a few useful perks as early as possible. The big 3 perks are Rooted, Aquaboy, and Idiot Savant. Rooted adds 25 to both energy and real damage resistance when you're not moving, Aquaboy coats your body in plastic wrap to keep you from taking radiation damage in various liquids, and Idiot Savant has been proven to be better at leveling you up quickly than maxed out Intelligence. If you're wondering about Gordon, it's the most slug-like name I could think of. Completely broken on every level now, a new bulletin told us about some possible rain later, and I hobbled towards the Vault. See how fast I'm moving indoors? That was the game f**king with me. This is me moving like someone who cares they're about the become the dust that irritates my nose 200 years from now.

It's so slow that if you stop for any reason your guy will attempt to get into the dying position. Based purely on guesswork because, I'd say it took me to double digit minutes just to walk to the Vault. It was kind of them to hold off the end of the world for me. I went down to the vault, got froze, thawed out, and the real game. See that guy in the upper right? You're gonna love him whether you like it or not. He’s here and he’s not going anywhere any time soon.

I love this guy.

Playing through Far Harbour for the first time. Pretty cool, trying for the peaceful solution (I assume, if not those Atom cultists are getting wiped out). These simulation puzzles make me want to wipe the island clean of all Synths though.

[up][up] Personally I would have started the playthrough after the opening, since it's not like there's any combat or dialogue that would be affected one way or another by being permanently crippled in everything. But then I'm not crazy enough to do this in the first place, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

Ugh, the sim puzzles in Far Harbour. When I replayed ME 3 recently I was wondering why I'd hated the geth consensus mission so much the first time. Then I remembered I was *actually* thinking of Far Harbour.

...Might look for a way to mod that out next time. Such a great expansion otherwise.

I liked Far Harbor, yeah. It's not a perfect DLC by any means: the aforementioned sim bits, roleplaying the most ridiculously fanatical Atom worshipper is hilariously never going to be mentioned in the base game, and I think the "are you a synth?" thing is a kinda dumb throwaway line.

But DiMA's interesting to interact with, there's some fun choices to be made along the way and, hey, the game gave me a bonus option for having the Medic perk.

I've always wondered how Longfellow is as a companion. Is he an interesting guy? I met him, and I was going to bring him along, but then Nick's identical brother showed up and it felt silly not to bring Valentine along.

I tend to think Far Harbour's writing is more believable, less surface-level than most of Fallout 4, and that applies to Old Longfellow as well. If a grumpy, snarky, drunken old rustic type sounds like a fun companion to you (and it does to me), I'd recommend him. He gets off some good lines, has a lot to say about the island, interacts with the various DLC NPCs, and I quite liked his voice actor, enough to swap him in after having specifically brought Nick originally. He's not important to the main plot the way Nick is, but he adds texture, a sense of place. Helped me feel that much more grounded and invested in the island and its factions.

As did a lot of the Harbormen and other NPCs, DiMa and the Children of the Atom. I liked the guy, but ultimately I kept Longfellow around as much for them as for himself, really. To have that stake in the DLC beyond my character's own conscience.

I remember someone joking that a writer from Obsidian must've snuck into the writing room when they made Far Harbor.

I snorted.

But yeah, Far Harbour seems to be a higher standard. I would be curious who the main writers were and what differences there were in how it was produced.

Beyond being well-written, it's also just very Obsidian in its tropes. The focus on memory, identity, and past regrets. The Dying Town full of salt-of-the-earth folks who are deeply flawed but very human, complete with a very likable Wasteland Elder who urges you to try and understand the fear and desperation that leads to their petty grudges and moral shortcomings. The scarred, corpse-like man with memory problems carrying the weight of the guilt for sins he can't remember. The pyromaniac and the religious fanatic, both one and the same this time as with POE's Durance, and the wisecracking sidekick and grumpy old-timer, likewise. Robobrains are wacky again, and gulpers even look a bit like wanamingoes, shades of Fallout 2. The locals are even called Harbormen.

Could be I'm reading some (or most? all?) of that into it. Felt deliberate, but I am wired to look for those connections, especially after the various games that were explicitly spiritual successors to Torment that came out around the same time.

if you can, get urself a mod that lets you hoard your companions.

make your charisma stat a little less useless, and don't miss out on neat interactions just because you didn't have a given companion active when you do a quest

As far as companions go, I was quite content with just using Automatron.
