Whatever. I sucked it up at the worldbuilding. Can we fix some of that later and just focus on the basics? They're a hardy, immortal race of Proud Warrior Race Guys with a love of guns and war who went on a brief rampage after discovering FTL and were then allied with the Sol Republic after they beat the crap out of each other. Is this okay? Just this, the bare bones? Will this fly? Details can be ironed out later or never. I don't care.

[up]So they're immortal Thygarens? Without all the stuff you cared about, the stuff that made them unique - without that, when you break them down then that's all that's left. It's probably better to hammer out the details first and revise what you had instead of saying you don't care.

Well, how do you propose fixing the FTL issue? I'd suggest scavenging ships, but apparently that's implausible.

Why not just lengthen the period to say, a couple hundred years, and add another few ships.

Maybe they could've come searching for the lost soldier, and they too were killed by the species?

So Medical Officer is more like a Medical Assistant? Maybe Mustafa is overqualified. Unless he doubles as a Science Officer as well. But I don't see a courier ship needing a Science Officer. Or is courier ship a cover?

Oh. Okay. If that's all it takes, that's fine. Or maybe they had a Krogans and Salarians thing with one of the other races, where they were lifted into galactic society by an outside civilization.

  • Name: Arkkos Seriei
  • Age: 35
  • Species: Arach
  • Appearance: Arkkos wears safety vests and hardhats befitting an Engineer, tailored to fit an Arach. His Weaver has been painted with yellow and black stripes specifically for this assignment.
  • Sex (or lack of): M
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Arkkos is fully trained in the maintenance and repair of N-64 "Javelin" frigates, with a degree from Sanderssen University of Engineering.
    • Arkkos is very skilled with his webs, capable of weaving webs into makeshift vocal chords to produce almost any sound or voice with appropriate tone and cadence. He doesn't do that anymore.
  • Equipment:
    • His Weaver. The Weaver is a rack of robotic limbs arranged on the rear of the wearer that weaves the silk in accordance with input supplied via neural link with the wearer, along with magnetic funneling chutes to direct the expelled silk. Weavers are given to Arachs at eighteen and are unique to each one; however, if the Silk is ever used, in any way, to take a life, the Weaver shuts down permanently. It is unknown how the Weaver actually detects such an act.
    • A box of the animated adventure serials he was in, where he voiced the titular Captain Gar Land.
    • A full set of safety and maintenance gear befitting an Engineer
    • A crate of old recording and broadcast equipment for sentimental reasons.
  • Personality: Arkkos fully denies any involvement in the arts. He's a strong, solid working man who can fix what needs fixing. He has an affected lower-class accent, though a bit of a dramatic tone tends to seep through. He insists that this is his first job ever, and that no, he is not Captain Gar Land, defender of the innocent and Captain of the Huntress, class 17-J "Gae Bolg" Cruiser, nemesis and part-time lover of Queen Nepherenta. He says, with a sad sigh.
  • Crew position: Engineer. Not Chief, but an Engineer nonetheless.
  • Bio/Background: Arkkos was always a talented little actor boy. He quickly learned that humming into his webs could make sounds and voices, and was known as the class clown while he was in school. As soon as he left secondary school he launched into an Art School, given a full ride with grants and scholarships. He excelled there too, emoting with the best of them, and got a part as Captain Gar Land, a cult hit serial that broadcast all across Phadkhat. However, it was only a cult hit. He fell into a deep slump disillusioned that he'd never be anything more than a niche C-Lister. He hung up his vocal chords and decided to do something more practical with his life, and went back to school on his own money to be an Engineer. Four years later he's ready for his first job. His first job ever. Because he never did anything else. Ever. Right?
  • Other:

  • Race: Arachnomorphs, or Arachs
  • History: The Arachs are actually just one of three races from their homeworld of Phadkhat, a harsh desert planet filled with tunnels. The Arachs, throughout their entire history, lived and died alongside the other tunnel-dwelling races, which to early explorers resembled something you'd see in The Underdark: humanoid Gremlins, smaller of frame and lighter of skeleton to fit in the enclosed spaces of the tunnels, and the Hydrarchs, nautilus-like dwellers of the underground lakes and waterways. The Arachs lived in the vaulted tunnels and larger areas of Phadkhat, as well as a few sparse aboveground villages. When miners seeking minerals discovered a city by way of drilling through the ceiling, it was actually not the Arachs who first spoke with them—that was a Hydrarch child directly adjacent to the drill—but it was the Arachs who first brokered trade agreements. The Arachs were given their FTL technology almost like a business investment, so that they could reach other races and materials more easily. From there, Arachs—and Gremlins, and to a lesser extent Hydrarchs—branched out to other parts of the galaxy, claiming unclaimed planets, for sure, but largely simply incorporating into modern society as merchants, artists, craftsmen, and politicians.
  • Physical Details: Arachs are giant arachnids, obviously. The only deviation from this is that they have 10 legs; three on the rear abdomen on each side and four on either side of the frontal section. The two front pairs also terminate in chitinous, humanoid hands. An Arach's head has sixteen eyes arranged around the front of their head, each eye segmented and about four inches in diameter. They have mandibles with inner jaws mounted on the front of their faces; it takes effort to speak English with these mouths. They are, on average, six feet from mandible to abdomen and four feet tall. An Arach lives to be about 100 years old. An Arach can make silk like any spider, and are given special Weaver gadgets to assist them.
  • Culture: Arach society flourishes on the concept of Success. In fact, they believe there is no such thing as Failure, merely a Setback. The only true kind of Failure is not doing anything at all, a true crime if ever there was one. The average young Arach is encouraged to find their calling, and their elders should be encouraged to help the youngsters along in achieving their goals. Most countries or other states under the control of an Arach typically have a large amount of money put into student loans and federal grants as well as social and emergency services.

Admittedly I can get past everything KSPAM's character brings to the table, she's open to character developement, if we ever get into land combat she's on our team, she's a looker, Proud Warrior Race thing (although extremely cliche) is fine.

BUT! But why does she look human? Their race has had no contact with extraterrestrial beings yet they could blend into the Sol Republic if they were two feet shorter. Which begs the question, why not just make a genetically engineered human super soldier (Neffy without the innocence) or just choose Thygaren.

Thygarens are everything you wanted your charcacter to be, just grounded in realism and without the trite Humanoid Aliens thing.

PS Maybe we should be doing this on the discussion board

So, is there a spot for a Science officer of some sorts, or is that already filled?

If not, I'll work on a character for the spot of Chief Engineer.

Arkkos is hardly qualified to be a Chief Engineer, he hasn't had any firsthand experience! As noted in his bio, he's just a normal Engineer.

Anyways, I decided to make this character partly based on the Sherlock Holmes from {{Elementary.}} Also, I assumed Aquid society acts a bit like human society, with high schools and teachers.

  • Name: X'menar E'vard
  • Age: 36
  • Species: Aquids
  • Appearance: He looks exactly like any aquid, possessing 8 limbs and a suit especially designed for the fact that he needs to be submerged in water and, well... has eight limbs. His helmet is filled with water, but constantly cleans itself so he doesn't have any problems. Attached to the helmet is the water tank, which replaces the water in case something bad gets inside. Also attached to his helmet is a fake ponytail that he says "adds some flair".
  • Sex (or lack of): Male.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Engineering genius: His species was always great with mathematics, so it was logical that young X'menar developed a thing for the precise and mathematical world of the machines. But instead of doing it like everyone else, X'menar liked to do it the opposite way: he destroyed pretty much everything and rebuilt it, making them better (or in the case of his first experiments, "in a semi-workable state"). This made him become an Engineering genius who can pinpoint the exact damage, what he needs to fix it and what's the most effective way to fix it under fifteen minutes- if he really, really, really wants to.
    • Visual memory: One of the ways X'menar became an engineering genius is that he decorated not the name of most of the pieces of a ship, but how they looked. So while this may seem like a problem sometimes (especially when it comes to describing certain machines over the communicator), it's a great skill when it comes to buying new pieces or used ones, often pinpointing if they have any problems that may show up later.
    • Great juggler: he just loves juggling. Juggling his chores and juggling actual plastic balls.
  • Equipment:
    • All the equipment necessary for a Chief Engineer, stored in a toolbox created by his father and given to him when he was just a kid. It's not that special: it's just custom-made with drawings of his home planet on the side, but X'menar will flip his shit if anyone dares to touch it.
    • One or two custom tools, all of them created by him during his studies of Engineering.
  • Personality: Ever heard of the term lazy genius? If you go to the dictionary to find out what it means, you'll find X'menar. If you ask him to do something, he'll take a few hours to do it. He'll often focus more on something fun than chores, and most of the time makes his crew have fun with him. He doesn't really like following orders, but he knows when it's time to play and when it's time to work: and when he works, boy, does he work, often forcing people to leave the room just so their footsteps won't distract him. He also loves prank, and he can sometimes be seen as a deadpan snarker to people that think they're smarter than him: one way of testing new engineers for the ship is putting them through an interview that includes not only technical questions, but questions that'll embarrass them.
  • Crew position: Chief Engineer.
  • Bio/Background: X'menar had a simple life in Aquid, but whenever it came to doing things like chores and homework, he either procrastinated or did them in a completely different way. Sometimes, he did it for the satisfaction of seeing the teachers' faces upon seeing that the only student that never payed attention to class, never did anything that they asked and always played pranks on others had the highest grades of the class. His parents, blessed them be, knew that he had a gift for things, but unfortunately always had to listen to people talk about how useless in class he was. While his mother simply nodded, knowing that her son was a smart boy that knew what he was doing, his father believed that even if he was gifted, he would never go anywhere with his attitude. So when he was almost finishing his studies in high school, his father yelled at him, explaining how we would spend the rest of his life at home, while his mother would cry for all the opportunities he wasted because of how X'menar was a "jackass that thought he was the greatest person on the world." X'menar's reaction? He studied, and studied, and studied for the rest of his life, obtaining even more knowledge, to become the greatest engineer in the world, stroll back home and rub it in his father's face.

I suppose they could be genetically modified humans, but that just ruins some of the effect. Eh, this is all getting too complicated for me. I think I'll be withdrawing.

EDIT: Would her species being militaristically active for a while be okay? I was thinking that maybe as one last try to get this accepted, that maybe their home planet is surrounded by asteroids, and they salvage ships and guns from there to use against them until they had enough to become militarily active. Once the humans come along, they make the mistake of accepting their challenge instead of just ignoring them, like the other races do. The rest you know. Does this make it okay?

Well, from the way I see it, KSPAM already has one character, plus this new one that he's created. Would it be too much to ask for this one player with this one character to hold the spot, when he already has a security officer and a cook. They're not big positions, but they're positions.

And even if she's a clone, I'm still really iffy on the whole "a 14 year old is a chief engineer".

Seriously? Like, no one pointed this out? It's a 14 year old. Even if she was the smartest being in the Multiverse, she's still a 14 year old. No reasonable captain would accept her to the ship because she's a 14 year old!
