No, I guess Wargaming.net (arm producers actually) owned that city and bribed whatever government left on earth to develop this sport.
If you see me I'm on an accidental Archive Binge.Kind of wondering about the so-called national competition as well... Will this mean that the city-ship will make landfall somewhere? Or will we literally see Ship-to-Ship rivalries?
The ED shows their ship docked. and I doubt there would be other ships with mountains, deserts, beaches, and/or snow.
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over. Now that I've seen the episode, I have something to say about this comment:
Aside from the premise, I saw literally nothing to indicate that you shouldn't take this show's plot at least mildly seriously. And, seeing as I took a few years and wrote a fairly lengthy story with a ridiculous premise and everything else in srsface, I can speak from experience from the writing standpoint when I say that a premise does not disqualify a series from being serious.
Now, if you stop looking at the tank thing as something utterly ridiculous and accept it as the setting's reality, there is nothing to suggest that this is a joke series. Therefore, yes, joke fansubs do indeed hurt the experience, in my honest opinion, by undermining this.

I don't see "joke fansubs" though. That's like saying that a show with English-speaking characters and "Frenchy" themes and thus speak with a French accent is automatically a joke. And that's even worse since they'll all be speaking English with a French accent (and that's a part of the show itself).
Yet in the case of the subs not all of the subs are in German, well not enough to qualify it as "German subs" instead of "English subs with some German".
Fair enough with adding German not automatically making it a joke.
But I still take offence to the implication that this show isn't worth taking seriously.
Rather than comparing this show to Strike Witches or Upotte, I think this show feels more like Saki with tanks. And just like how you can claim that a show about girls playing Mahjong couldn't be serious and Saki would prove you wrong, same with this show and tanks.
For the record, Crunchyroll subs have none of these "German subs" I hear about. They refer to the art as "Tankery".
I understand what you're saying, and ridiculous premises can be played seriously and played well. Yet, I don't think that history will vindicate your position here; not only does it take the 'amazingly bizarre' ("tanks as a martial art, in school!") and push it into the 'stunningly, ridiculously audacious' ("on an aircraft carrier the size of LICHTENSTEIN!", but they're also playing up the Nazi angle with the hilarious propaganda film and the monocle-wearing authoritarian student council girl.
In summary: This isn't exactly Sora No Woto, and the producers know it. Better to enjoy it for what it is than labor under some incredibly ill-directed pretension that we're dealing with a SRSFACE DRAMA.
"Tankery"? Really? 'Joke' subs win that comparison.*

So, we're going to just consider this Saki, except with World Of Tanks now?

^^
Well, this isn't no Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex — and there's nothing wrong with that.
Keep Rolling On^ ^ Exactly. the Serious Business is not war, but World of Tanks. There are thousands of female WO Ters in China alone, really. Maybe the guys' sport is World of Warplanes.
If you see me I'm on an accidental Archive Binge.Agreed wholeheartedly.
Maybe I should try World of Tanks. Mostly playing Blacklight Retribution lately. lol
But then again there's enough tanks in RUSE and Hearts of Iron 3.

I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.World of Tanks makes winning the game personal.
If you see me I'm on an accidental Archive Binge.Dang. And I thought I was the first one to think of it given the undertones
I do have to say that the Gratuitous German makes the series hard for me to understand since I am not that familiar with the German language.

Check out my fanfiction! They win not cause they are cooler, bur cause it make them underdogs.
But it's cool being the underdog.
Check out my fanfiction!Point taken.
Yeah, it makes the enemies tears more sweet, when the underdog finally defeats them.

@Savoie: They're on a boat, not an aircraft carrier (from what I could tell)... And I should note that you only supported your argument with premise info, which is sorta my point. For all we know, there could be a good reason for the propaganda, especially when they need to pull students away from the Magic and Ninja classes.
As people said, seriousness does not necessarily mean heavy drama.

Saying it's not an aircraft carrier is about as pedantic as saying it's wrong to call most of those armoured vehicles tanks. I think. The one the main girls were in looked more like a tank destroyer or something to me. Not that I actually know.
Let's call it a city carrier.

Check out my fanfiction!
Interesting premise. I'm wondering if the thing about panzerfaren was a lie and they're actually preparing for war.
