My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Comics

I don't know about you, but I find it weird that the Changelings are going around with big glowing eyes. I mean, they didn't demonstrate anything like that in series.

Maybe it's a stylistic choice for the reader's convenience and is not supposed to be seen by the characters.

Maybe that's wrong, but I'm just trying to figure it out.

Those aren't changelings. Those are just mind controlled ponies. Remember how Shining Armor looked?

Well the preview pages show Twilight took notes about changelings, and listed ponies with weird eyes as "Infected". Then again, could just be Andy Price's art style.

I never buy books from other countries, but this one I'd buy. The (first world) problem is... I want AAAAALLLL the variant covers!

Read it. Despite being the first of a 4-issue arc, it didn't feel too light on content like other Decompressed Comics are guilty of doing. It was able to tell a small story (The Mane 6 beating up Changelings while saving Ponyville) while setting up a bigger story ( Going to the Changeling Empire to save the CMC from Queen Chrysalis).

Alright, I bought a copy. Its awesome. evil changeling Derpy! Rarity uses offensive magic! Fluttershy chews out a changeling!

Also, the Katie Cook pony shows up later to laugh at a mule joke. I wonder if there will be a Running Gag where Katie Pony makes fun of her own writing?

I think one of my favorite little touches is that Spike isn't completely useless and inactive during the fight scene. He actually sets a changeling on fire! (Though, that apparently only serves to make it angry. Changelings are durable little things.)

OH! Can I get a few questions answered?

What's this offensive spell Rarity does? What do the non unicorns do in a fight? How's the humor?

This is what Rarity does.◊ She also styles Pinkie's hair on the spot to differentiate her from the changelings. Aside from her, RD and AJ kick things, Fluttershy uses The Stare to protect RD when a changeling lands a pretty hard hit on her, Spike actually lights a changeling on fire (doesn't hurt it too much, but it's hilarious), and Pinkie finishes everything with a special bubblegum cake batter from the party cannon.

It'll be a great inspiration for my own work. See how ponies fight. And I love how Pinkie finishes everything off.

It wouldn't be the first time he's demonstrated 4th wall powers like that.

You know what I love? The Written Sound Effects. Twilight now has her own answer to 'SNIKT!', ZAP! I chuckled at KICK! BETTER KICK!

I think the best thing I can say about this comic is that it largely feels like it could just as easily been written as part of an episode of the actual show.

Also, anyone else think that Rarity's hair style looks really good on Pinkie?

EDIT: It's probably also worth noting that when I read it, I couldn't help but imagine the lines being said in the voices of the characters saying them.

Well what other voices you going to imagine them with? The ones from the toy commercials?

Actually, that might make things even more hilarious.

A few of the things I haven't seen pointed out in this thread yet:

• On page 3, the Symbol Swearing that was in the unfinished versions has been replaced with a simple "OUCH!" (it's also that way in the three-page and seven-page previews, but I hadn't noticed it until now)
• On page 17, Wild Fire (with a smoke trail) and Lucky Clover have an adorable cameo together.
• Also on page 17, Sugar◊ Grape◊ (a previously toyline-exclusive pony like Sweetcream Scoops) shows up!

I missed the recent shipment of Issue 1, but I'll pick it and Issue 2 up when they come in next month :D

There were a shitloads of shout-outs and callbacks in this comic. (Also, maybe I shouldn't say "shitload" when talking about a My Little Pony comic? I mean, swearing when talking about something meant for kids just feels . . . wrong, somehow.) The books in the library were pretty much all shout-outs. Derpy being lured with muffins was presumably a shout-out to her fanon personality. There were the obvious No Celebrities Were Harmed cameos, like the Blues Brothers ponies.

Also, it was an enjoyable story, with proper characterization, and some funny lines.

The Changelings seem to have changed their strategies this time. I mean, you have an army of Zombie Ponies marching through Ponyville this time! Just like Spike and Pinkie Pie suggested in "Bridle Gossip"!

Bit of detail I've noticed concerning the background ponies. Not counting the ponies from the show, the only BG ponies that appear on more than one page are the Katie Cook pony and some unique looking green pony with a blonde mane and a...bear paw cutie mark? She's standing next to Big Macintosh after the changeling fight and next to Cheerilee towards the end.

Who is she? Is she a toy pony? A Season 3 character making an Early-Bird Cameo? Just Andy Price making an attempt to create a Recurring Extra? Me thinking too much about it? She has a neat design. I shall call her.... Sister Bear.
