Hi everybody! So, I've got a proposition to make. I've had the idea in my head for a while now of starting my own Sonic fanfic series. Rather than just be an adaption of the games, it would be more of a composite universe, taking elements from all incarnations of Sonic (of which there are many,) and merging them into one big melting pot. That said, something on this scale would be a pretty tall order for one person to cover. One of the things I want to do is bring in all of the Freedom Fighters and most main characters from all continuities, but the result would be a rather large roster that could be a bit unwieldy under one writer. In a perfect world, I'd love to have multiple squads of Freedom Fighters, the Chaotix, Team Dark, and Knuckles all have their own ongoing series, but with just one writer, you'd either have to divy up the time between them and have it be one big humongous ensemble cast, or get multiple writers so you can actually have all of those teams and groups running at once.

Which leads me back to my initial proposition. What I'd like to do is get together a team of writers and brainstormers (myself included,) to create one big shared Sonic universe that takes from all of Sonic's different incarnations. To start, I plan on writing a short story that won't necessarily be a part of this universe, but will at least give an idea of just who the major players are and an idea of what I want it to be. But at the same time, there's still a lot of world-building and future plotlines and whatnot that need to be hammered out, or else why even bother getting a team together? Anyhoo, if anyone's interested, just let me know. Anyone's more than welcome to join up at this point, either as a writer, just a brainstormer, or both. Also, here's what I've got cooked up so far, mainly for the Echidna's backstory, and it might even give a better idea of what I'm aiming for here:

Right there, we have elements from the mainline games and a RPG spin-off, as well as both the Archie and Fleetway comics. (Dr.Zachary for the latter, natch.) And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I'll add in more thoughts and whatnot later, (such as this universe's list of Freedom Fighters,) but the sky's more or less the limit. Again, if anyone's interested, just let me know and I'll sign you up ASAP. Let me know if you've got any questions.

Though I was thinking of having an OC-centric story... I could perhaps write a one-shot for your universe if you have an OC I could use for my story.

Basic summary: Little Planet Bad Future, after S4: E2, Metal Sonic is the main antagonist, otherwise the story would mainly be about OCs, whoever I can get onboard.

Probably. Depends on what you mean by OC though. Do you mean a character created purely for this project, or someone who isn't from the games? (Because there's going to be a lot of them.)

Oh, and thank you. I wouldn't have even thought of making this a community project if you hadn't brought it up. Thanks again, really.

Also, Fleetway did a story back in the day that had more or less the same premise, the only difference being that instead of just one Metal Sonic, there was a whole legion of them, all led by the giant red Metal Sonic from Knuckles Chaotix. They even turned the Miracle Planet into a giant Metal Sonic head! Needless to say, it was pretty awesome. If what you have in mind comes anywhere close, then yeah, I definitely don't have a problem with it.

Ah. Well, on the one hand, I wouldn't want making up OC's for this project to become a precedent, but if it's just one or two, I guess it's not too big a deal. What did you have in mind?

I'll pass. Aside from having less than no interest in any character or continuity not related to the games,if I'm going to write another Sonic fic, it's going to be a sequel to "Some Time With a Good Friend."

I'd be pretty interested in helping with brainstorming. Maybe even writing, if I feel up to the task.

Anyhoo, I'm still chipping away at the proof-of-concept story here, but in the meantime, here's a few more ideas of mine. The one thing I know I want this project to start with is Robotnik either taking over or having taken over Mobius, together with his cadre of lackies. At his side is his second-in-command Snively, Chief Scientist Grimer, professional mercenaries Sleet and Dingo, resident dimwits Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts, and his little helpers Orbbot and Cubot who, along with the aforementioned trio of numnuts, do whatever needs doing. He's also got his cadre of regional Eggbosses from the Archie reboot at his beck and call, and while he doesn't have too many start with, he'll get more as the series goes on. I'm still not sure though if I want the series to end with Eggman getting defeated, or to have it continue on with him trying to regain power while various other foes such as Scourge or Dr.Zachary Finitevius attempt to fill the void. Speaking of which...

I already talked about the good Doctors, but as for Scourge, I'm imagining him as a crossup between him and Fleetway's take on Super Sonic. For those unaware, Fleetway!Super Sonic wasn't just some invincible super form that Sonic turned into to save the day, but a vicious force of destruction who longed solely to destroy all in his path that eventually became its' own entity. Now, I fully intend on playing Sonic's super form straight, especially since I want everyone who had one in the games to have them here, but I still like the general idea, that of Sonic's darkest urges and desires made manifest.

And that's what I've got in mind for Scourge. Rather than hailing from some alternate dimension like in Archie, he would instead be pulled from Sonic as some sort of plot by Robotnik to have his own Evil Sonic at his beck and call, but it backfires horribly when this Sonic decides to just do whatever the hell he wants. Eventually, he decides he wants to be more than just Sonic's copy, and after somehow turning green with Emerald shenanigans, he responds to someone calling him Sonic with, "Not quite babe. But a real Scourge all the same." And then he goes on to be a major antagonist for the rest of the series, with the lovely femme fatale Fiona Fox at his side. I think this'll work just fine and dandy, but everything's open to negotiation at this point.

I'm also trying to figure out just how the world works. It's a bit of a struggle to figure out how Eggman can still take over the world when he's got a post-Sonic Adventure world and GUN to deal with. What I've been thinking of is either wiping that part of the world out, (which I'd like not to do,) or have Eggman only conquer half of the planet, with the other half being where most of the humans live. One half has modern cities and technology and humans, and the other is full of furies and more dependent on nature, though not completely stuck in the boonies either. Though any thoughts on this are more than welcome.

And lastly, here's a list of planned Freedom Fighters. Not all of them may join at once, but it's still going to be a pretty large crew by the end. (Whenever that may be.) Mind you, some writers can handle casts this big no problem, but I'd still like to have some help if I can. Without further adue...

That's 18 Freedom Fighters, hence the need to split them up into several smaller squads. If I end up writing this by myself, I can still handle them if I split up Chapters between different squads, but if I can get more writers, then I won't have to resort to that.

You could have Eggman conquer Little Planet, with its time magic being enough to consistently make Eggman a massive threat.

Oh, Blaze is gonna be in there. Same with Knuckles. It's just that unless her dimensions gets blown up or something, she's going to have other priorities than joining the Freedom Fighters and fighting Robotnik. Same with Knuckles. I have thought about having her trapped on Mobius for a while and forced to join the Freedom Fighters for a time, but that's about it.

That's not bad. Here's how I think this might work. He starts off taking over the Acorn Kingdom and a few surrounding zones, like Green Hill and Emerald Hill, which gets the Freedom Fighters together in the first place. They soon begin to drive him off, but then Sonic CD happens, and rather than just abandoning Little Planet for all time, Eggman goes back with his aids when no-one's looking and takes the entire planet over, which is incredibly easy due both to timey wimey nonsense as well as just how small it is compared to Mobius. This remains Eggman's status quo for the most of the series; a mighty conqueror who nontheless has yet to conquer Mobius itself only due to the efforts of the Freedom Fighters and other groups like Team Dark and the Chaotix. And leaving Mobius opens up a vacuum for other villains and groups like Scourge or the Nocturnus clan to try and fill the void. All of which leaves room for there to still be humans and GUN and modern cities and whatnot.

My only regret is that means Little Planet may sadly never be turned into a giant Metal Sonic head. Eh, a man can dream.

Good to see the Eggboss's getting some love. I loved the idea in the Archie reboot, and Eggman's Dozen is a great story.

On the subject of the massive amount of Freedom Fighters, the best advice I can give is don't be afraid of splitting them up into smaller teams for the sake of different teams. It's what the archie reboot did from time to time.

I guess at this point, one of my biggest questions is 'Who is Sonic in this story?'. Sonic's had wildly varying backstories across all the various bits of Sonic media; from an ordinary brown hedgehog who gained powers from an experiment, to the son of soldiers and nephew to Uncle Chuck, to a prince, to a hero who just showed up one day out of the blue. I guess you're gonna go with pre-reboot archie backstory, but other interpretations of Sonic's backstory could be interesting too.

Actually, I was thinking about having him just show up out of the blue. Sort of. Sonic does have parents and his Uncle Chuck, but his parents at least aren't too important, and he was born outside the Acorn Kingdom. Like a lot of Sonic characters, he just happened to be born with his powers, and soon gained a natural sense of wanderlust. He begins to wander the world and see what there is to see. One day, he stops by the Acorn Kingdom to take in the sights and attend the royal Acorn Kingdom festival... only for Eggman to take over the Kingdom on the same day. To save the kingdom and stop Eggman, (or at least send him packing to the Little Planet,) Sonic must learn to put aside his wanderlust and get his priorities straight; that there are things more important than just amusing himself. And that he can't do this alone.

Eventually, Chuck tries to find Sonic after hearing about what's been going on in the Acorn Kingdom and the surrounding zones, only to be captured and robotizized by Eggman. And this is what makes it personal between the two. From then on, he stays a Freedom Fighter, as while he would love to just roam the planet to his heart's content, he understands that Eggman needs to be stopped, and as long as he's out there, he and the Freedom Fighters have got to stick together. And by the end of the series, he wouldn't have it any other way.

At this point, Sonia and Maniac do not exist. Outside of maybe Chuck having a bad fever dream.

Uncle Chuck: Sonic... no... don't eat all the chili dogs ... no ... not two of them... put the drums down Maniac... three? TAKE THEM AWAY, TAKE THEM AWAY...!!!

I actually like the canon/archie reboot approach of Sonic being a drifter who showed up out of the blue. Add's an air of mystery.

I do have some questions regarding Uncle Chuck. How does Chuck infiltrate Robotnik's territory in this 'verse? Is Chuck just exploring the more outward zone's, coming across isolated rebel groups who have heard rumors about Sonic and the Freedom Fighters, when he's captured, or is he actually infiltrating Robotropolis and the like. I'd suggest the first, personally (Or have the first lead to the second), because if Chuck is going straight to Robotropolis first thing, that's really risky for someone who (I assume) has no espionage experience. Also, what state is Robotropolis in this 'verse? Is it more akin to Satam or Underground?

Also, do Chuck and Robotnik have any history together in this verse? Most 'verses Chuck is featured in have Robotnik sealing the roboticizer from Chuck, it's rightful inventor. Though I could see them not having history working too, with Robotnik capturing Chuck and just recognizing the familial resemblance to Sonic

First off, in this verse, Robotropolis doesn't exist, or at least not on Mobius. He later builds it on the Little Planet, but because the takeover happens in the present this time around, Robotnik doesn't really have time to a build his own personal capital, so he just takes over Mobotropolis and leaves it as is. He'll try to start giving it a makeover, but he'll be driven to Little Planet long before he can really do much on that front. He could always rechiristan it Robotropolis, but it isn't exactly the same thing.

Anyhoo, yes, Chuck does get caught visiting the surrounding territories and zones, and while Chuck and Robotnik don't know each other here, they know of each other. The furry and human parts of the planet's population are still largely separated, but there are exceptions, Chuck being one of them. He's a respectable scientist and researcher with a decent amount of clout who also did his research on other various geniuses, including Gerald Robotnik and his various offspring. At some point, he started working on the roboticizer to preserve people who had contracted incurable injuries and diseases, but he noticed that his test subjects (non-furry animals mostly,) had lost all free will, and could only do what they were told or programmed to do. He shelved the project indefinitely, and did his best to cover the whole thing up so that no-one could misuse it.

Robotnik on the other hand had already heard of the device and, his dreams on conquest already beginning to swirl in his noggin, decided to use it for his own ends. With the help of his nephew Snively, he hacked into Chuck's datafiles and stole the plans for the roboticizer under his nose, and knew that one day, he'd put it to good use.

Years later, that day came when Robotnik wrested control of the Acorn Kingdom away from King Max, and while the roboticizer isn't able to convert people as frequently as in other universes, it's still darn nifty. So imagine his surprise and delight when the creator of the device which is helping enable his conquest shows up just outside his doorstep. Naturally, he takes a moment to gloat and explain just how Chuck's device is helping him take over the kingdom and the surrounding zones, to which Chuck can only react in both disgust. He then recognizes Chuck, or rather sees the family resemblance. Right then and there, he decides to chuck Chuck (I couldn't resist,) into the roboticizer, both to spite Sonic, as well as to revel in the ultimate irony of having the roboicizer's creator be converted by his own machine. Naturally, when Sonic finds out about all this, he is not amused.

Also, you know what I said about Sonia and Manic just being fever dreams? Scratch that. Not only are they still fever dreams, but they're also going to exist as Freedom Fighters, just being Sonic's cousins instead of his siblings. At this point, with 20 Freedom Fighters under my belt, I need to split these guys up into smaller squads. They can all still hang out together and interact when resting up at Knothole or aboard the Sky Patrol later on, but I am not managing 20 main characters in a given chapter outside of hanging out at base. Think more Legion Of Superheroes or JSA. Or maybe the X-Men with all of those different teams. Speaking of which, here's a tentative squad list:
