I guess it just stepped on my sensibilities or something. Plus, in-universe, it does mean he'll be disqualified — in a tournament certainly, and in a duel like that probably.

Oh wait, you're serious. In that case, allow me to laugh even harder.

Nah, seriously, I very much doubt that Marcus will feel anything towards someone he's just spent a good amount of time trying to break emotionally. And equally, Gretel won't want to have anything to do with him, whether she wins and proves to herself that Marcus was just a know-it-all not worth her time, or loses and promptly acts as though he doesn't exist in the interest of erasing this incident from her memory.

Then again, considering how most fandoms work, if this were an actual spin off of Yu-Gi-Oh! there would probably be out 200 Marcus/Gretel Lemon Fics on the internet by now. Have fun with THAT image.

...And every single one would involve a Shout-Out to the Alien franchise, because there's nothing fans love more than another series they can shoehorn in a reference to. (I should know.)

I'm throughly enjoying writing for a character who sort of hates everyone for totally irrational reasons, and goes through mental gymnastics to justify his position, all without realizing what he's doing.

It's the kind of the thing that happens in real life all the time, but one doesn't normally see it in writing.

No, only the usual number would be that (which is what, 70% anyway?). Mostly just dialogue lines unimaginatively copypasted from the script into situations where they sound like they might fit.

Hang on— why do people care about Gretel? She's a self-centred, arrogant, ignorant and smug arsehole in a universe which quite literally runs on friendship and hugs and fun.
