Nightbird? Why does that sound like a name another superhero has?

I do wonder if it's a shout out to Nightwing or Batgirl.

But yeah, she seems to be Nighthawk's protege just like Heroes Reborn Miles.

I really like her costume too.

The new origin of America Chavez is basically Superman's origin story. There was a family enjoying their day, they found a missing little girl, and adopted her as their own. The alternate universe thing is still canon, but just implied and not given much detail (at least in the first issue).

In further defence of the Runaways, many of the adults they've met (barring Spidey, who they never gave a chance to, and sadly enough, Hank Pym, who the universe never gives a chance) have acted like jackasses to them.

Though that's because the plot makes them that way to justify the kids opinions.

[up][up]If a Latin couple found her when she was young and raised her, I could get behind her being a representative of that culture. Same idea as the Justice League: Gods and Monsters Superman where he was raised by Mexican immigrants.

Which brings up a major problem with Runaways as a title: it rely on OOC moments to justify the kids rebelliousness. Because lets face it if the characters were written the way they were things would of been more nuanced.

- Captain America would of still take them in the foster system but will be a lot more involved and trying to make sure the group aren’t seperated since they bounded with each other. After all, Steve is the kind of character who will personally help youth in need.

- Wolverine is a teacher during this time, so he should of been able to at this point be able to handle kids. Especially girls considering his tendency to have a female sidekick with him (Kitty, Rogue, Jubilee). I know there is an X-Men comic that rectify his assholish portrayal in Runaways, but still.

- Punisher, as violent of a murderous psychopath he is, would NEEEEEEVER threaten the lives of kids. FFS his origins inolved his children getting gunned down, are we supposed to believe he wants to kill children himself after such traumatic event? He would of acted in a similar way he acted in that crossover he had with Archie where he put aside his violent code for the sake of not traumatizing or harming the innocence of kid. He’s a sociopathic hero, that does not mean he is completely devoid of all morals.

Then again that was a poorly done Take That by Joss Wheddon who hates the character and was on the fence that he is a glorification of vigilantism.

Point is, besides Spider-Man, Hank Pym and Cloak & Daggar Runaways REALLY write the adult heroes in ways to suit its narrative whenever they are focused.

I always wanted to see Runaways crossover with any of the other teen teams, just to see the contrast. It's impressive how we never got a Power Pack/Runaways teamup during that whole period when Karolina and Julie were dating.

There was a Young Avengers Runaways crossover set during or after Secret Invasion, I think? Or Civil War. Some event

They should do a crossover of all the “young” teams

Runaways and Young Avengers had crossovers tie-ins in both Civil War and Secret Invasion.

As for a crossover of all teenager teams... wasn't that the idea of Outlawed, before the coronavirus derailed everything? There was a promotional art with one of those "everybody jumping to the action" scenes: the Champions are there, but also the Runaways, Speed, Hawkeye (Kate), Spider-Woman, Gwenpoole, Moongirl, Franklin & Valeria, etc.

That was just promotional stuff, most of those heroes would not be affected by Kamala's law for various reasons. Speed's (I think) a mutant and thus is immune to human law, Franklin and Valeria are full on fantastic four members, The Runaways book was on hiatus for that whole period of time, and Moon Girl was in the event but got jettisoned after the first issue when things got real.

The only things that changed were the New Warriors stuff.

Damn straight they should.

The warriors in particular need a good fucking story. And none of that How Do You Do Fellow Kids? bullshit they came up with for Outlawed.

Then again, maybe they need to just retcon fucking Civil War in the first place. That story didn't do anyone any favours, and that's the source of a lot of issues, along with Avengers Disassembled....so basically Mark Milar and Brian Michael Bendis ruined Marvel.

I mean, I liked the Yost 2014 run with Nova and Kaine, that was pretty good. They've definitely gotten good stories post civil war, they just got treated weirdly in Outlawed because of their roles in the original storyline.

You'd all drown in it if I let all my hate flow.

It's a miracle it hasn't happened already considering how I get sometimes.

You might want to just lock me up before I reach that point. I wouldn't blame a single one of you.

I don't know man.

people do ambiguously evil things in isolated cabins.

Especially Marvel characters. They should be banned from all the random cabins.

Actually, with the trainwreck that Aaron's Avengers have become lately, an Avengers Disassembled II would not be such a bad idea.

Unless, of course, you prefer the vibranium-covered teeth.

Vibranium teeth is the kind of ridiculous shit you'd expect from comics. It dumb but in a fun way, like Comics should.
