Have you checked if the space is properly allocated?
Optimism is a duty. You formated the portable hardrive in fat32.
If your trying to do this from windows format it for NTFS instead.
changing the formating will erase all the data on it
So be careful with that.
Fat 32 can only write items of up to 4gb on it, which is why every one made there own replacment systems.

Hm.
It won't let me move the files back to the other hard drive so that I can reformat the portable drive, so I guess I'll just have to figure out a plan B or something ;-;
(I don't have enough space on my main hard drive to move it over there temporarily.)
When I formatted it earlier, it was as NSTF (Default) but right-clicking on the drive and selecting properties, it says "FAT32" so I must've messed up big time, somewhere.
Not got an 8gb USB drive or something? Format that as exFAT and it'd be able to take a big file.
Avatar SourceOkay, so I was able to get everything from the one failed hard drive onto the portable one (the 4 GB files I just put in 7z folders) so that's all I could salvage.
The other failed hard drive doesn't even show up.
(With only like 18% functioning, probably should've expected that, haha… ^^" )
Anyway, thanks for the advice and stuff~
Considering asking professionals for that hard drive, but at a cost of like R5 500 (South African currency)…
May have to let it go and move on after all, huh.

"What ails you, my friend? Stay a while, and listen~"Take it as a lesson like I had. Back up your stuff, back up the back ups, and put the back ups on the cloud.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.About time, too. This is the sort of thing that should have been standardized and integrated decades ago.
What's up with WinRAR's eternal trial, anyway?
Edited by Redmess on May 27th 2023 at 12:51:05 PM
Optimism is a duty. And its zip file support is still annoying enough I'd rather use dedicated archive managers for it. I'll keep using what I've got rather than relying on Microsoft's support for decoding and compressing file formats (especially when licenses make it questionable if it'd be able to use the existing libraries and not completely write its own from scratch for things like 7z support).
The eternal trial is a marketing thing. You can use it, which means the RAR format is supported, but eventually some people will actually buy the thing.
Edit: How on earth are they bundling libarchive with the OS? Weird.

Optimism is a duty.Winrar has been totally irrelevant for a long time. There's basically no reason to use it over 7zip, which doesn't have annoying trial pop-ups and is open-source.
out there are people who have paid for win rar, they definately exist
New theme music also a boxYeah, I guess I've been using WinRAR out of sheer habit. I've switched it to 7Zip now.
Optimism is a duty.I wound up switching from that to peazip last year.
Avatar Sourcelichen libarchive is 2-clause BSD licensed, so there's no reason they can't. Presumably this means Windows will also support bz2 and xz.
Digital comics are not infrequently distributed in cbr format, so that's a use case for rar.
Ukrainian Red CrossI wasn't sure where to put this, but I was wondering about websites like Ko-Fi and Pay Pal dealing with money transactions. So, I've seen some people had their Ko-Fi and Pay Pal accounts hacked and had some of their money stolen. So, I was wondering, has there been more precautions taken in preventing hacking in internet sites?
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!Hacking isnt like Hollywood where a hacker sits there and forcibly gets entry, while that occasionally does happen it is exceedingly rare, and its dumb too since bug bounties exist and you can get 10,000 just for reporting to discord when you can post in the wrong channel, so imagine the payout when actualy money is involved... with no legal risk either.
The truth is most "hacks" like those ones are the fault of the victim as much as this sucks to hear.
There social engineering attacks there they get you to hand over your details willingly, or they are attacks that make use of the fact that most people use the same password for everything.
As long as you dont engage with phishing scams and use multiple passwords you will be fine.
Hell unless you have 6 figures you would probaly be fine even if you dont, why waste the effort going after some one with 10k in there account when you can target some one with a million or two in crypto easier for a biger payout.
To put it better, most of those thefts aren't hacks at all, but social engineering, where the thief convinces the victim to send them money or give them their credentials.
Optimism is a duty.Make sure sites don't share passwords, and go find advice for avoiding social engineering and phishing attempts. The short version is "never do anything without verifying it first", but a longer one gets a bit more technical. How to spot fake sites/links, etc.
Oh, and just because something is from a trusted source, doesn't mean it's safe. Basically, ignore anything asking you to send money. Ever (and if it's someone you know for some reason, double check with a second contact method if you aren't expecting it). If it IS valid, log in to the site supposedly asking directly; do not click a link.

Avatar SourceAlso, don't click links in emails, even if you think they are legit, but go to your browser and use your regular link for a website, like for a bank.
Optimism is a duty.I said don't click a link. Not just emails, SMS, or any other source.
Avatar SourceAll that is important, but let's not fool ourselves. There have been dozens of corporate data breaches over the years, and asking how Paypal protects your account isn't a crazy question.
That said, Paypal seems to have a good reputation for security.
"We learn from history that we do not learn from history."I think it's also worth noting that the accounts on financial sites that have been hacked haven't been by dint of a complete compromise of the site's security, though. They tend to be more cautious (as expected).
Avatar SourceI tend to get a lot of emails that state that I got offered a job and one time, I did open up one of the emails when I was working at a convenient store years ago. Thankfully, when the person in the email tried to send me a check, my bank told me that it was a fake check and that prevented the person from getting my money. Ever since then, I tried to be much more careful when it came to opening up emails that state that I got a job, despite the fact that I never sent in a resume to that job.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!
… hm.
I'm guessing it's not a good sign if you get a "not enough space on disk" error when said disk has 900 GB of free space while the thing you're trying to move over (or copy or extract) is 4 GB.
Guess salvaging things from the failed hard drives is gonna be harder than I thought…?
EDIT: okay, it seems I can't transfer anything to the portable hard drive that's 4 GB or larger.
I'm guessing I missed a very important step or something, then…
