[up][up]By that logic, students should be allowed to go naked, or whatever's the legal minimum amount of clothing.

Wearing your sports uniform in class is something I've often seen in anime, and on occasion, in US fiction (although those are rarely in schools that require a specific uniform).

[up] My school actually did do the whole "wear whatever" rule, I'm pretty sure we didn't have any dress rules, though it being a boarding school the lines got kinda blurred, nobody was going to bother coming up with rules especially for being in class.

Plus I went to a pretty liberal school, it's not for everyone. tongue

[up][up] Well, yes. That is how it should be. Not naked, obviously, because every country has indeed a minimal amount of body to cover, but the rules should not be different than they will be during the rest of the schoolboy & girl's lives - since learning about life is what school is also about.

One thing that people don't consider is that college students don't seem to have this problem. A lot of us are still teenagers when we start so being older isn't an excuse.

Speaking of this outfit?, would a teacher not allow a female student to enter class with that outfit either?
I do recall seeing students dressed close to that when I went to high school ... in 1995note . Now? I highly doubt it.
males having little incentive or reason to wear clothes as revealing as females' might have played a part
I recall several male students who wished they could have roamed around school topless.
By that logic, students should be allowed to go naked, or whatever's the legal minimum amount of clothing.
This actually makes me wonder if a 'clothing-optional school' would be better, or worse, for the students?

College students aren't still legally their parents' property, since virtually all of them are 18+.

What does being a parent's property have to do with anything?

[up][up][up][up]No different, not counting work, then. Which school is primarily aimed at. Most jobs have a stricter dress code than schools. So if it really shouldn't be different than what students can expect in life, dress code in school should be like that.

Yes, employers often make their employees follow a dress code, but is that really a state of affairs we want to encourage?

If you raise kids to view dress codes as normal and acceptable, then many of them will grow up to run businesses and impose dress codes on their own employees. The cycle has to stop somewhere.

Now, if you want to have kids take a "dress for success" class, that's a different story.

Collage students also show up to class in pajamas.

They are not a good choice for showcasing the maturity of choosing your own clothing. ._.;

I don't get how dress codes prepare kids for work anyway. The kind of people that don't grasp that fact about work won't care what the school wants.

I think "are dress codes a good thing?" is outside the scope of the sexism thread.

Reverse-spy movie.

I would watch that.

Isn't that inverse nearly all Hollywood movies, and some other movies too?

But the idea's the same - inverse Smurfette Principle or inverse Men Are Generic, Women Are Special. We need to combat the assumption that characters can be female only when there's a specific reason for it (we need a Damsel in Distress! We need a female to get raped! We need an woman to look sexy! We need a Love Interest to prove our lead male character's straightness!), as such an assumption leads to pigeonholing and stereotyping.

I fear the inverse gender movie would fall into the Girl-Show Ghetto, if executives even allow a sexy male character (You'll scare people away!) or non-stereotypical female characters (She can't swear, people find that unattractive!).

No, because those movies were boring as fuck. Totally Spies did the same concept a lot better.

Other than the Bond flicks, how many similar spy films are there that aren't Bond parodies?

None, hell even Bond has improved, that's talking more about the style of old system Bond films.

Though in fairness there aren't that many spy movies that aren't Bond inspired, they're that or action movies parading as spy movies.

Yeah I actually watched From Russia with Love and was surprised at how boring it was, there wasn't really any meaningful drama but more relevant to this thread the female "lead" was woefully uninteresting and basically spent the whole film being shepherded around and taking orders from Bond. It was so transparently a male power fantasy but not one that made for a very interesting or fun movie.

This was after I had seen Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, which are from the last decade but which have much better female leads that actually do stuff and make an impression.

The Quantum of Solace lead made an impression? I can't remember a thing about her. Moneypenny and M are probably the best female characters from the Craig era.

I remember her in part because I saw the movie recently, but I was making a comparison with the lead of From Russia With Love specifically.

But yeah M is awesome, I forgot to mention her because I was just thinking about the "Bond girls".

I liked Vesper. But obviously, characters are more memorable when they aren't "Bond girls" - like M.

On the theme of Bond movies that are not Bond, Kingsmen. And the girl in it is a true badass.
