There is a gulf between not being a copy of your "canon" self and hardly resembling the popular character you're supposed to be. You know, the affable jester dressed psycho nurse? Not only does she not look it, but doesn't act it. What's the point? I could throw in a 9 year old clad in Thebes armor and a thorn crown and then show you all in slow motion that she's really Wonder Woman by giving her a red white and blue tattoo on her forehead and writing "Themsicara" on her spear as she struggles to hold on to it while being pummeled in slow motion.

Then as the video rolls I could show her gleefully slaughtering to dissonant laughter. I'm sure no one would miss that my character was supposed to be Wonder Woman on the first viewing. When we saw a purple suited Giggling Villain with a pop gun all who knew the Joker would pick him out immediately. I'd guess there would be some kind of confusion if all the shots were of a blood curdling screaming bald offense American football linemen with a flame thrower but I guess Harley's not as well established as I once thought and isn't right for the comparison.

Ah, a new DC fighting game, and one that isn't a crossover. Should be interesting, if only to play the "Guess-who's-in" game. I'm a sucker for superhero fighting games for some reason.

Let me just say that the name is terrible. "Injustice: Gods Among Us"? Are they trying to be dramatic, with a superhero fighting game of all things?

That has to be Lex being blasted by Superman during the slow-dramatic-camera-pan-everything-is-frozen-in-place-montage.... do we have a trope for that? As for the ice attack on The Flash, I'm guessing Mr. Freeze due to popularity (and he's one of my personal favorite Bat-villains), but if it is him that makes three Bat-villains already and the game's just been announced!

...The Joker is in this game. Lets not fool ourselves, frickin' Harley Quinn is playable. It'd be a sin against comic book fans to have her playable and not Mr. J (though I'm curious as to why they showed her off first).

As for folks I'd like to see playable... Nightwing, Green Arrow, Kilowag, Plastic Man would probably be nice. I'd wish for Cassandra Cain Batgirl, but she's not allowed to have anything more than a cameo or an armor vendor in DC video games.

Anyways, this all reminds me of an old school game for the Sega Genesis... Justice League Task Force! It was also for the SNES, but that version was drastically different for some reason, and since I was a Sega kid I'm gonna fill this thread with some blast processing.

[up][up] You have seen maybe 9 seconds of Harley. Saying that her characterization is wrong is impossible, because you have seen her do two things: be attacked by Wonder Woman, and run.

As for her appearance, I refer you to the recent Batman video games. You may have heard of them. Arkham Asylum, and Arkham City? Where Harley doesn't look at all like her usual self?

[up] Don't forget that the Flash's arch-enemy is Captain Cold, who has the exact same "powers" as Mr. Freeze. It could go either way.

Then again, DC has some lame villains. Batman's rogues gallery seems to be the exception, not the rule.

I'd rather not care about their looks and more if they play well. Plus, Alternate Character Interpretation is rather normal these days. Also, this is made by Netherrealm, not the regular editors. I just don't see some huge issue here. Ever since I saw Ganondorf in Melee be a clone, I realize that worrying about resembling canon was just pure opinion and not required, really.

I don't see it anything worth worrying about. The game is far from finished, and these are just some of the beta stuff. Too early for complaints about nothing final, really.

Moving on, as in rerailing, I wonder if they might do some type of finishing techniques. Nothing actually deadly, but something more like the Final Smashes or MKVSDCU-type Brutalities. It could show off some cool moves. In other words, it would just KO them.

That beatdown Flash received at the hands of Supes seems like it could fit that bill.

I bet that they will have finishers, if Superman's punch-his-opponent-into-space thing is any indication =P

Sweet.

Well, I am a Mortal Kombat / Killer Instinct /Clay Fighter fan. evil grin

Although I meant an actual final attack, more akin to the "Critical Finish" from SCIV then a power move that can be done in battle.

I wonder when that happens. I'd be fine either way with either version.(cutscene attack/hyper move or finishing move)

While Batman's building-kick is a mid-battle maneuver, do you really think punching your opponent into space and then back isn't a finishing move? :P

Epic and Over the top isn't unusual for DC Universe.

Lobo is a character several people seem to want in this game.

Okay first of all, as for that video, Superman with a mullet is just stupid!

Secodnly as for Joker, I'm pretty sure no-one is doubting his appearance. Of course I wonder what types of moves he will have in this game.

Thirdly, Calnos, who are Kilowag and Plastic Man ?

Well, Ed Boon did say there would be multiple versions of characters

When did he say that? And besides, is that really a good idea?

Finally as for the whole finishing moves idea- yeah that is a possibility.

I hope this game will turn out to be good and I am glad that this thread is very much alive. 4 pages in 2 days? Nice!

[up][up] Not sure about Plastic Man, but Kilowag is a Green Lantern.

Boon said it in that interview video that was posted. And it sounded like multiple costumes, not actual character slots. I should have been clearer on that.

[up] Captain Marvel has what amounts to Supes' original powers. Superman also has the Eye Beams, and Super-Breath.

I hardly ever touch Ganondorf in either smash game and that's because he plays like a more crappy Captain Falcon. But hey, he at least looks the part. And I have heard of Arkam Asylum, I didn't like her look there either, and too my knowledge it hasn't caught on.

But then again, Arkam's Harley was still an a quick giveaway, despite being on the screen for about the same amount of time in their trailers.

And Clark punches Wally into orbit? So you went into free fall fights in the last game and those sucked, and mortal kombat has had punching out of arenas for a long while, which really didn't do much cept change scenery. Simply turning up the "awe" factor isn't going to make it better, we even have a page for it here and its not going to be the replacement gimmick that draws the mutilation crowd. Maybe the DC characters will do that but why? This team has already used them poorly.

It would be a much better idea for the big moves to be in-fight super moves. That way they'd have actual tactical utility rather than just being flash.

Anyway, color me not interested. The mechanics look passable, but the general aesthetic is just awful. The art style is grim, the arenas are grim, the lighting is grim, the excuse plot is grim. . . seriously, do we *really* need this much grim in what is functionally a JLA fighting game?

[up] -perfect example of reasonable things to not like about the game so far-

I'll admit, the aesthetic isn't for everyone. I like it, but I'm pretty easy to please. The way I see it, a fighting game needs to have a reason for the heroes to start fighting each other (especially one that will have a significant story mode, like this one likely will), and in my opinion, something that makes everyone act grimdark is a better explanation than opposing ideologies over the legality of superheroism.

So, mentioning everything wrong with its predecessors and how it seems to be more of the same isn't valid, fine. Mortal Kombat vs D Cs plot was sorry, it might have been a good script but it wasn't acted to carried out well and now the same team is doing another story driven fighter with the same characters?

The Harley complaints weren't even about game play, it was just an observation on how she wasn't immediately recognizable for pretty much anything she's known for compared to every other character in the trailer. That was just an aside, my reasons for the game being horrible aren't even really, I did state it could be vastly superior to Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe right? But if it was, the only thing it would have to be is average and I cannot get excited for that.

[up][up] Civil War was merely bad writing and wasted potential, but the same could be said of all religions many comicbook stories. I'm not particularly a fan of grimdark because it's usually done terribly in recent years, but as long as the driving force of the plot isn't something like "THE RAAAAAAAAAAAGE~", I should be fine.

I'll be more specific: Something like Civil War would be a fairly boring story for a fighting game. What you're looking for there is a reason for anyone and everyone to be able to fight each other in one-on-one matches, and you'll want it to happen a lot. Something like Civil War is more about the ideas, and the way a schism like that affects the world, and not as much about the beating each other up.

Another, smaller problem is that a "heroes fight each other" story doesn't leave much for the villains to contribute to the main conflict. An "everyone fights each other" story does.

While it's a good concept (when done right), it's not right for this particular game. And I'm okay with that. smile
