@Anfauglith: On the small chance that he's indeed new, he shouldn't be involving himself in controversial areas straight off the bat. Note I didn't post-ban him — I edit-banned him for saying that the very first thing he was going to do "with this new account" (note the wording) was go on a cleanup spree.
It would have been much better to just tell him not go on said spree and explain why, in my opinion. Plus being new and posting about something "controversial" is not forbidden, at least, I don't see it in the rules. The person I suspect of being the vandal was also a new account and posted in a controversial thread, and to add insult to injury he had the same opinions the vandal had, and this wasn't enough evidence. He also said he was a friend of the vandal, which is even more damning than saying "this new account".

I'd like to know where you came to those conclusions, and what evidence/data were they were based on.

That would also need a Wiki Talk thread.
And I am getting confused between the two threads (About Content Violations and Rape Trope Renames)
@Anfauglith: I have to weigh the chances of a situation being inflamed, too. Such actions bring with them a strong risk of it. I don't see my job as forum moderator being simply one of cleaning up incidents after they occur. Limiting the potential for them to erupt is also part of the job, I feel.
I haven't been involved with the incident you're describing re the Mass Effect troll, so I can't comment intelligently there.
I've explained that in the other thread.
Also, can we continue this discussion in the Content Violations thread, please? It's becoming confusing to run it in 2 threads at once.
Might be better to continue having the conversation here rather than the CV thread, 'cause that thread is already huge and has other purposes.
There really is much to discuss. It would be great if we could discuss any number of subjects like adults, but we can't keep ahead of the people who turn it ugly. We have to go with the practicalities.

@ Marq FJA
Eddie tends to be a little abrupt in his explanations.
The gist of it is that rape (much like sex and other similar topics) have become difficult to moderate across such a huge wiki.
Banning rape is probably the way to go, at least given the current situation and as a temporary solution, but the only real way to deal with the underlying problem is to implement better rules, enlarge the mod team, and have stricter moderation.
There are unfortunately very creepy users around the wiki, but give it half a year or more of harsher-than-usual moderation, and the wiki will become easier to handle in that aspect.
edit: Wait, you meant as in, me, personally? From observing the content violation discussion threads, mostly.
