Hal Cyon walked through the Venusian Jedi Temple, speaking with his younger brother. Most would be bothered by the lack of warm that Hal emitted due to his special cloak, but he was so linked with his younger brother that neither of them cared of his outward and inward coldness.
"So, how's that girlfriend of yours, Mike?" Hal asked, curious of his brother's much more active social life, having very little of his own outside of close friends and family.
"Ah, she's alright, man. Still curious as to the couples' life, Kuya?" Michael teased.
"Oh, shut it, you idiot." Hal retorted, bantering with his brother in their usual style. "But seriously, man, when are you going to marry her? You're 30 now, and Zach's already got two kids and a wife on him."
"That's 'cause he was always the ladies' man, Kuya. And to be serious, I asked her last night."
"Really? How'd that go?" Hal asked.
"How do you think? She said yes, you idiot." Michael said. "We're gonna get married by the time spring rolls around."
"Send her my regards. You two are going to be perfect for each other." Hal lightly punched his brother's shoulder, a small smile for the happy news that reached him. Everything was going perfectly fine in his world right now, and nothing could ruin it for him now.
Well, almost nothing, as he would realize in a half-hour...

Meanwhile, in the Jedi temple that was nestled on Olympus Mons, Aeron Rabor stood at a window, staring intently at the Martian outscape. His lightsaber, hewn from basic materials as befitted a follower of the Jedi Code, seemed heavy as it hung from his belt. He could scarcely remember the circumstances that had brought him to the temple on Mars rather than remaining in the one on his homeworld - Venus - but he wagered it had to do with his relatively reticent behaviour with a lightsaber. After all, a Jedi could outlast his foe with Soresu, but aggressively pursuing a victory was not something that the style was geared toward.
Evidently, they - whoever they were - wanted to remedy that. Not that he could blame them, of course. In fact, he would have done the same thing in their position. Why did it bother him so, then? Did it have to do with a desire to remain where he was born and raised? Aeron fervently hoped not. The older Jedi must know best, didn't they? After all, he had lived and learned all he knew in their company, so there was little reason for him to doubt them.
Perhaps... perhaps meditation would calm his mind and stay his concerns. Readjusting his robes, he removed himself from his current position and walked briskly down the corridor, trying to project a feeling that he was as calm as he appeared.
On a small but comfortable waiting room of the old Jedi temple of Earth, a young woman (and an old one for an initiate) stood waiting for one of the most important decision concerning her fate to be reached.
Empty your mind of all thought, still your heart from all emotion, remain at peace with your surroundings... and with yourself... She repeated in her mind, trying to quell her own doubts... however, they had their own voice and it was a loud one.
Damn, they have been in there for so long... How could this take so much time to decide? I doubt they ever took this long to decide for anyone else. I'm eighteen years old and have been in the temple for a decade and a half... It's way past time for me to become a Padawan
Does no Master or Knight want to deal with me? Will I be sent away from the Temple as simply someone who is too troublesome to become a Jedi? They'll take my lightsabers away and then sent me back to a family I can't remember... And so Janine thoughts went, her emotions boiling within her, shattering her focus and peace of mind. Fear, Doubt, Anger, Sadness... So many emotions unbecoming of a Jedi.
No, no! Just because of this is why you're such a troublesome initiate Janine! Focus and forget about all that! They'll be done talking when they are done. That's it
Thus Janine took a deep breath... and decided to practice a little trick she had learned some years back. She focused the force on the lightsabers hanging from her belt... tugging at them to make them fall from the clip. The sabers were released and then started to fall to the ground, just as she pulled at them once again with the force. Focusing on her hands where they belonged... they started spinning softly in midair they then moved upwards, right into her waiting hands.
Janine, with her eyes closed, smiled as she felt the comfortable cold metal resting against her palms, success bringing her the first positive emotion she had felt since she stepped into this chamber. She tried now the trick in inverse, letting the sabers fall from her hands and then go back to hang from her belt. It was an exercise she had made hundreds and hundreds of times before.... and she would repeat it thousands of times more in order to make the little trick come as second nature to her.
And thus, Janine finally found a way to focus and remain at peace while the Jedi Masters decided on the master to the which she would become a Padawan.
Atelia walked lazily through the halls of the jedi temple. She had been up all night working on a report regarding her latest assingment and for some reason did her datapad have no connection to the network so she had to deliver it personally.
Right outside the chambers noticed Atelia another girl. The Jedi knight nodded in a greeting before entering, not bothering to signal her entrance.
"Greetings masters, sorry to disturb but it appears to be something wrong on my datapad. It can't connect to the network so I've come to deliver the report personnally!"
The Jedi Master, who was presiding over assigning the young Janine to a master, had come to her decision when Atelia Alucard had walked into the chamber, apparently to personally deliver her report due to technological errors. The Master gave a nod of acknowledgement as the young Knight entered the room.
"Ah, Atelia, glad you could make it. For now your report can wait, I want to inform you of something." She turned her head towards the other chamber outside where Janine waited.
"Do you see that young woman, Atelia?" The Sage asked. "Her name is Janine Eristalter, and she is ready to become a Padawan. I know you're quite young for a Knight, but I believe you're ready for an apprentice. Do you accept this girl as your apprentice?"

Janine dropped her sabers due to the shock of hearing the news. Thankfully, it seems like her constant practice paid off since she able to make her the twin weapons fly back to her belt before they struck the floor... having her weapons clang on the floor was definitely not the first impression she wanted to give the woman who was to be become her teacher.
Her teacher... By the Force, she wasn't getting sent away! She was going to finally become a Padawan after seeing all the people she grew up with leave the temple already. She was was way beyond happy and even though she tried to hide it, it showed clearly on her face.
She looked up a Atelia (She needed to remember her name) with expectant eyes, waiting to see if she would accept the Master's proposal.
Atelia looked at the master with eyes that said "Are you serious?!" in a positive way before practically skipping forward to Janice and attempting to lay her arm around the young padawan's shoulders. "Of course I do!"
"Very well, then." the old Sage said. "You two might as well get acquainted with each other, since we'll probably have an assignment by next week. You can give the report to someone else, Atelia. I have business with friends on Mars." And with that, she left to find the shuttle that would take her to Mars.
Hal and Michael are sitting at a table in the Temple cafeteria, discussing Michael's wedding plans. Like every other Jedi, they had very little realization of what was to come in fifteen minutes...

Jason Khel was looking around his workplace, making sure that he did not leave anything behind when his girlfriend called, he sighed and answered with a smile "Hello honey! No, I'm just finishing up. I'll soon be home don't worry!" In the corner of his eye Jason saw a man, formerly a bodyguard to the man he had just killed, try and crawl to his blaster. Jason just hung with his head, raised his own blaster and shot the man twice, once in the back and once in the head. He took one last check before leaving the apartment belonging to a former businessman on Mars by jumping out the window into a speeder waiting there for him and driving away.

The walk to the meditation chamber had not been a long one; Aeron had nodded and greeted other Jedi as they walked past, though he did not stop to chat with them. He feared more than anything that someone would recognise his discomfort. Even the fact that he felt the need to behave in such a manner disturbed him, though Aeron knew - or rather, hoped - that he could cast his concerns aside once he was finished.
Sitting on a comfortable seat, Aeron withdrew from his robes a small holographic projector as though it was a deadly weapon. There was nothing unusual about it: it was just like any number of cheap, basic models that could be purchased from any vendor across the solar system. It did, however, hold a special significance to the young man. He pressed a button that lay flush with the projector casing, and a holographic representation of a star system - it seemed to be randomised with each activation, a clever feature if he did say so himself - flared into life, illuminating his features with a soft blue glow.
This time, the star system had decided to resolve itself into a red dwarf surrounded by six planets, with two asteroid belts dividing it into smaller sections. The planet closest to the star was like Mars, though Aeron could not discern anything further. He could, if he wanted, "tap" the planet, which would display various tidbits of "information" about the planet, but presently he felt it would get in the way of what he wanted to achieve. The next two were planets of barren rock, lifeless and featureless. The first of the asteroid belts came next, and past that was an ice planet, which looked as hostile as space itself. The second asteroid belt secluded the ball of ice from a planet that may as well have been its' twin. Beyond that lay a blue gas giant like Uranus, a small fleet of moons clustering around it.
Staring intently at the artificially generated vista before him, Aeron began to clear out his mind of all intrusive, unwanted thoughts. He let the Force flow through him, carry him away from his troubles and give him peace. The 18 year old always felt better when he did this; he felt as though he was connecting with the universe on a basic, spiritual level, and that suited him just fine. And so he gazed upon the system, there in spirit if not quite in body.
Janine didn't resist her new Master as she wrapped an arm around her shoulder while saying with great enthusiasm that she accepted her. Now this brought an incredible flurry of mixed feelings to the newly ascended Padawan. First of all... she was practically hugging her. In all the years she had spent in the temple she could count with one hand the times she had been given such a treatment. This was the physical contact she had craved her entire life... but at the same time it was wrong.
This confusion is what made Janine to doubt before she tried to lean away from her new teacher's reach, taking the chance when Atelia bowed to take a step to the side before she too bowed to the Master. Janine looked discreetly to the side to her new trainer as she wondered just what kind of person she was.
"Master... Atelia? It's an honor to be named your Padawan. I swear, I'll do my best not to disappoint you" Janine said in a solemn tone.
"I have no doubt you won't!" Atelia responded with a bright smile before it turns into a more mischievous one "But first we need to see what you can do."
"See... what I can do, Master Atelia?" asked Janine, filled with confusion at the words the smiling woman just said. Not to mention the devious smile she was displaying...
No, no, I must be seeing things... She's just friendly. There's nothing suspicious about that smile
"I'm sorry, but what do you mean by those words?"
"Simple, we are going to have you run the training course with my special settings!" Atelia said and grinned "This will be soo fun!"
Still, she was eager not to disappoint her newly acquired Master, so she stood up straight, determination shining through her eyes "If that's what you think is best, I'll go run the course immediately"
"Very well! Follow me!" Atelia exclaimed and began to walk rather quickly through the halls towards the training courses. She had completely forgotten about the report.
Janine nodded her head once and then followed Atelia down to the training courses.
Atelia led her new apprentice to the entrance to one of the training courses "Now you just wait here for the signal to start."
Then the Knight scurried away to the control booth and started to enter the settings.
Soon the doors opens and reveals a long obstacle course of varying height and curves, also there was a lot of turrets and driods in there
Janine looked forward with more than a bit of apprehension as the training course presented itself for her... Apparently, her Master did not pull any punches when it came to exercises as the course seemed, at first glance, to have a little of everything they could send her way.
She didn't know if Atelia was listening... but in case she was she softly asked "I just need to make it to the other side, right?"
Janine wouldn't disappoint her... this was her very first test as a Padawan. No matter what, she couldn't look bad here. Crouching slightly, Janine felt the Force course through her... and with it she dashed into the training chamber at full speed.
"Oh, now that's a pretty sight..."
Standing at the recently opened door to Aeron's meditation chamber now stood a young looking woman wearing the traditional robes of the Jedi. Allara looked with undisguised interest in her blue eyes at the beautiful expectable that the young Initiate held in his hands.
"I'm sorry, I thought this chamber was empty but I couldn't help myself but to stay for a moment when I saw your little... device. I didn't knew they made things specifically to project such pretty sights"
Mark peered around the corner. There was only one guard in front of control room for the anti-air defenses. As he finished attaching the suppressor to his pistol, he aimed for the guard's head. A swift kill would be easier to keep quiet.
He dragged the body away and put on the guard's uniform over his own attire. Approaching the door, he stood outside waiting, listening for voices. He heard faint voices on the other side. A sudden outbreak of an argument arose and the men started to shout. Mark burst through the doors shouting back "Is everything alright in here?"
One of the men tried to explain why they were arguing, but he paid no attention. He walked up to one of the men and patted him on shoulder say "Just making sure nothing bad had happened. How should I know that someone didn't accidentally shut down the system, right?"
With that remark, Mark casually strolled out of the room with slight grin on his face. What the man didn't realize was that Mark planted a small remote controlled EMP generator in his pocket while he was talking to him. When he left room, he clicked the small remote he had and strolled away with the sounds of men fighting over who messed up in the background. Mark pulled out his communicator and said "Everything is set, Mr. Talon."
As soon as Janine entered the turrets fixed on her and begun to fire rapid salvos at the speeding padawan, the nearest group of bots turned towards her and activaded their training sabers.
Over the speakers could Atelias voice be heard "Just wanted to tell you, this is timed! You have exactly 1 minue and 30 seconds to reach the exit, also you are allowed to be hit three times, no more!"
This is also timed!? What kind of insane assignment is this? Do all Padawans face such trials the moment they are assigned a Master?
Not to mention... was the purpose of this course just seeing if she could get to the other side? Avoid dangers? That would seem proper by a peace seeking Jedi... but still, with so much combat elements put forward in the training exercise it seemed wrong to simply ignore them and get to the other side...
But there was still the time limit... Was she supposed to just finish them all up quickly and get to the other side in time?
Ah! Too much stuff to keep track off! I'll just do go with the flow!
Janine kept her speed though she changed her direction suddenly to avoid the turret's fire... but also in order to get the training droids between the turrets and herself to get some cover. After the positioned herself as she liked she extended both of her hands, calling forth on the Force to push the droids with all her strength with the intent of getting them to crash on the turrets.
Janine's little trick worked and the droids attack got interrupted by them flying straight into the turrets, destroying both them and the guns.
"Nice job! But you better hurry! Time is running out!" Atelias voice could be heard of the speakers
Aeron's concentration fell to pieces as someone intruded upon his meditation. Blinking once as he looked at the young woman, he nodded. "I got this a while ago; I can't remember how I got it right now, but I wouldn't trade it for the world."
He patted the holoprojector affectionately. "Thanks, though. And really, it's no problem."
His tone was even as ever, though he did genuinely mean what he said.
Encouraged by her success, Janine concentrated on using the Force to accelerate her as she ran as fast as she could towards the the goal of the training course.
"I see... so the device is neither particularly new nor common... Fascinating. Also, I'm glad to see that I'm not interrupted. I'm Allara Minn from the Venus Temple" Allara said as she stepped forward to look at it a little closer. Also, in part, to get a better look at the young Padawan (she guessed) inside of the chamber. Rather thin... practically scrawny, though his blue eyes seemed earnest in a way that was endearing.
Still... even so, the intuitive Allara felt something lurking just beneath the recently acquired peace inside the young man.
"Say, young Padawan... is there something bothering you?" she asked. Normally, Allara take so much interest on someone she just randomly met... but still, there was something interesting about the young man. The Consular took this as a sign from the Force instead of simply another consequence of her natural impulsive nature and did not question it much even if it postponed her plans to indulge on drawing from the Dark Side of the Force as her instructor tasked her a few days previously.
