It wasn't always that way. For those of us old enough to remember the video game panic of the 90s—Mortal Kombat, Night Trap, etc.—that was mostly incited by Democrats (Lest you think I'm lying, I'll name a few: Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, Tipper Gore, and Hillary Clinton (Who was still going on about the evils of video games into the 2000s).). That could also be a factor in these companies donating to the GOP.

I suppose the infamous Jack Thompson didn't count because he wasn't technically a politician.
Stupidity transcends political ideologies.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"So, seems like Jim is losing subscribers pretty quickly. Sad on the one hand, but good on the other. In a few months, the toxic parts of the fandom will hopefully be fully gone.

New theme music also a boxSpeaking bluntly, I'm not sure one ever fully eliminates toxic fandom, one just replaces it with different toxic fandoms. I got in trouble for running into one of them a little while back and I keep getting drawn into those fights on Twitter because I apparently lack the ability to learn from experience.
Or perhaps it's more accurate to say that in any given group of social media followers who share a point of view, some of them will take it to toxic extremes.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"He claims it's because he wants to focus on raising his five (and one on the way) kids.
Disgusted, but not surprisedHim mentioning the LGBTQ community feels pretty awful given that this is really most likely to be about his political leanings being uncovered.
"Uncovered" implies there weren't always apparent.
He's pretty much always been openly Republican, he just usually didn't talk about it in press about Fnaf. And most people don't really dig into the political leanings of the creators of their favourite media unless it's really obvious, unfortunately.
Not Three Laws compliant.
People love being ignorant - and judging by some of the responses I've seen to the whole thing, they get really angry at whoever shatters the illusion.
Though a sizable number of his fans might also just be bigots as well, from what I've seen.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.I've always held the belief that most ignorance is willful.
Disgusted, but not surprisedAnd either way, cults of personality suck and nobody should participate in them.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. He definitely retired to protect the brand, so its a little hard to care about this even if doxxing was unfortunately involved.

I think if there was doxxing we would have heard about it
New theme music also a boxThe doxxing is referring to the data about his political donations being released. It, like, technically is doxxing, but the information is actually publicly available, it's just usually a massive pain to get at.
Not Three Laws compliant.I mean, either way, he seemed to have started to outsource development anyway so he might have had wanted to retire at some point anyway and this just sped it along.
Its bit hard to say, but I kinda find it hard to believe that decision to retire is something you do in a week without having at least thought of it and planned for it in advance
Yeah, as far as I've seen the "Scott Cawthon got doxxed" claim is just about people pointing out the public records of his political donations as viewable on OpenSecrets. It's not like it provides any finer location data than the donor's city (the FEC's site, on the other hand, has a ZIP+4 listed on some donations which would have the potential to narrow things down to the street, but the donations use a PO box rather than a street address).
I remember when this first started, the FNAF subreddit had an announcement that they were removing all posts with links to the open secrets page because someone allegedly used the information there (presumably the zip code) to find Scott's address, this being prior to his statement/non-apology. So that's probably what it was referring to.
Maybe it's not popular within the greater furry fandom as a whole, but most of the people I personally now who are into FNAF would call themselves furries.
