Holy crap, that game was four years ago. Time flies.
It's been 3000 years…And since then it’s only released 5 new heroes.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Since people mentioned Angry Joe in here. Joe from what I have seen isn't the issue, his fanbase is. While I don't agree with his opinions on some games the guys seems pretty chill in general and is more on the side of the left gaming controversy wise. He's very anti-corp, pro-women in gaming, and so on. His fanbase just seems to consist of alt-righters in serious denial whom throw hissyfits any time he shares his opinion.
The only thing that did make him look a bit odd recently is his comment on that stupid gender Cyberpunk 2077 controversy and that seems to of been out of genuine confusion considering what he said after.
While I don't like Joe as much anymore as a reviewer as I have seemed to of lost my taste for his angry schtick he does seem like a okay guy.
Although rereading through these posts I was not aware of his jabs towards the Metoo movement or feminists which I find...really strange considering how he supported feminists in the past?

Joe is dumb. I don't mean that in a malicious way, but he comes across as a friendly, well meaning guy who just isn't that bright and has no interest in educating himself beyond what he reads on twitter. You can see the other two guys he does his shows with get exasperated and try to reel him in all the time, because they have done the reading, they know he's wrong, but they don't want to contradict him on camera.
He's got good taste in superheroes though at least.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Well, shit, that's the best summation of Joe's personality that I've ever seen anybody make. I stopped watching him precisely because of that.
His stance on feminism seems to boil down to both finding feminists oversensitive but also agreeing with their goals in the grander sense, which while annoying to listen to isn't bad nor uncommon. And I appreciate his efforts in bringing awareness to Puerto Rican issues after all the tragedies and government negligence. I don't doubt that Joe is an overall decent guy on the whole, I just don't find his schtick entertaining anymore. It's the childishness more than the politics that put me off, and at worst his attitude comes off as crassly populist and thus it attracts a lot of shitty people, but I won't begrudge anyone here who still enjoys his content.
, and agreed.

It's why out of a lot of critics and pundents on YT, I prefer Jim's approach. With his antics, you have a good idea what he does and does not take seriously with how over the top he usually gets. But when he has a point to make, you can easily tell what's an act and what he's genuinely concerned about. With AJ, getting mad all the time is his shtik, and it feels really insincere to me.
"No will to break."I feel like Angry Joe is like an entry-level reviewer for people that are starting on videogames whereas Jim's touch is more refined, if that makes sense.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, maybe we should try to find the absolutes that tie us.and then you've got yahtzee, who've I been listening to since he had proper music
New theme music also a boxUpon reflection, Jim is the only "angry critic man" I have on my sub box at all at this point. In terms of videogames, i never got into angry Joe's show, and I've always found yahtzees persona grating (I say that to make a distinction between that and Ben croshaw the actual person, who i don't know much about).
Yahtzee's problem is that he's amusingly more angry than Angry Joe but instead of being theatrical or hysterical he uses sharp, barbed venom-laced words.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, maybe we should try to find the absolutes that tie us.Also I freely admit my impression is based on content I watched years ago, so maybe this isn't accurate anymore, but I feel like when you compare the two Jim only really gets all that indignant when it's something actually anti-consumer/immoral or otherwise something inexcusably badly made. It's not hard to find him praising various games.
By contrast almost any praise Yahtzee gives in most of the reviews I watched felt backhanded at best.
That's not to say that you're obligated to have something positive to say every time, especially if it's something you genuinely don't enjoy, but it gets to a point of Accentuate the Negative that I just don't really enjoy at this point.

I've watched Zero Punctuation since forever, and one of the best parts is the brilliant metaphors he comes up with, along with the contractual swearing. ZP is constrained by the format: MS Paint sprites on a yellow background and a six minute runtime. Jim shows real footage from the games and has a lot more time to go into details, which I appreciate but can't always sit through at once.
One format is good for quick impressions and barrels of laughs; the other is good if I want to dive in and get properly angry at things.
It's kind of ironic that Yahtzee complains that nobody likes it when he's nice to games, yet his rare positive reviews number among the highest viewed. Perhaps it's a scarcity thing.
The main difference for me is that I can put on ZP and let it run in the background, soaking up the humor even though I've watched each video five or six times already. With Jim, one viewing is enough and I need to pay more attention so I don't miss things.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"He's offensively amusing, blunt but you get the point where others would pussy foot around issues (mostly, anyway)
New theme music also a boxI feel Joe lost his "angry" shtick. He seems more disinterested or low-power these days. He also doesn't do as much game reviews as he used to. He was much more fun and entertaining in first 4-5 years and after that it's like he's developed a growing apathy
I do like the skits but I wish for the old days of when he reviewed something like Ride to Hell: Retribution. One of the best stuff he ever put out, I love rewatching it annually.
The Other Joe is more interesting
As for Yahtzee, while I wouldn't take his advice about retro-styled FP Ses much (it's his DUSK video that made me roll my eyes so fucking hard.) he's in general alright and has an awesome way with words.
Let's agree to disagree about that, shall we?

Maybe if certain modern youtubers dropped the ableist language I'd broaden my horizons more, but I don't ever see that happening.
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowAimless anger and hostility is just not funny anymore, if it ever was truly funny.
I would say it's kind of generational, there was a time when being openly hostile was funny but currently is seen as, well, immature or anti-social.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, maybe we should try to find the absolutes that tie us.I mean, critic with a descriptive gimmick is how it used to be, isn't it? The Angry Video Game Nerd, The Cynical Brit, The Angry Joe Show hell, even Francis to a certain degree.

"...in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach."Ooooh I almost forgot, did someone mention Yahtzee? Because even tho I have some issues with him I still adore his "Let's all laugh at an industry that never learns anything tee hee hee" jingle thanks to how applicable it is even to this day.
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowJim hasn't done a Games Industry Bullshit on Nintendo's refund court case in Germany and Norway, so I'm gong to call that's what this week's Jimquisition will be about.
Ukrainian Red CrossJim's been dealing with a lot of back pain this last week, so he hasn't been able to do as much work. He's mentioned so on twitter.
He's also recently mentioned that apparently Digital Homicide have resurfaced, because of course they did.
Digital Homicide is the "gift" that keeps on giving.
Angry Joe has a style that people can find annoying since he ends up screaming a lot of times, though one thing that I can say in his favour is that he’s also being much more outspoken about microtransactions ever since Star Wars Battlefront II (2016) and has been lashing out against sports game for also indulging in stuff like that.
Funnily, it was because of Joe that I found about Jim’s channel when he mentioned him and his review of the Slaughtering Grounds on one of his worst games lists.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, maybe we should try to find the absolutes that tie us.
