Yeah, Youngblood's microtransactions are shit but that's taking things too far.
Its still about killing Nazis and how they're really, really bad people. So I can safely say at least it hasn't betrayed that.
Though it betrayed the fun in killing them.
When you make killing Nazis feel like a slog, you know you dun fucked up.

Yanno, usually in video games the three most Acceptable Targets to kill by the football field-load are aliens, demons and Nazis. If they're making Nazi-killin' a slog, that's a shame.
You know how people like Yahtzee call MM Ses right-wing power fantasies? Would Wolfenstein sort of be considered a left-wing power fantasy in that regard? I mean I LOVE the series, just a funny thought.
I still watch TB's video on modern military shooters (in a nutshell) from time to time. Very satifying video.
I despised that trend from day one and I'm actually happy they've fucked off. I'm still bummed out how Raven Software, who used to make some pretty good titles back in the day, got sent off to the Co D mines to assist developing Co D games.

COD is hilarious the way its trying to reclaim its dignity. First it tried to go "Wacky future fantasy shooter" with Advanced and Infinite Warfare, then went back to World War 2, and now its back to the modern stuff with the subtitle that made it famous.
Was it Wolfenstein New Order that made COD be that way?
Okay now COD Mobile's 100 bucks spins are rigged & the DLC for the next game is up to 250 bucks.
So much for dignity.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Yeah basically
Even bringing back Captain Price didn't help. Not least because Billy Murray's not voicing him again. Price was probably the best part of MW 1. Him and ol' Blazko would get on well.
Well not only are they trying to charge 99$ per year for Fallout 76, its literally busted. Those 'private servers' arnt actually private, they are just instances which people abandoned and repurposed. You can still be invaded.
The 'infinite' bank for currency is infinite alright.... it will eat your currency and its gone forever.
Not just that, but the scrap box unlimited inventory feature can literally delete all your stuff in there. I mean, if Bethesda wanted to market this as a hardcore survival feature, they should say so. Because if they didn't, then good golly gosh, it's almost as if they're lying to their customers.
It figures that even as much of a mess as this is, you leave it to Bethesda to break their own already shitty features.
For extra hilarity, they didn't even register any domain names like falloutfirst.com for this and a random guy from reddit/4chan snatched them. Turned them into a spam of Take That! towards the "feature", obviously.
It just hit me that Fallout 76 has
- An upfront cost
- Microtransactions
- A subscription fee
I mean, we generally agree it's acceptable to have one of those things. Two is bad, but so many companies pursue that route anyway, and people defend it. Having all three is right out.
Ukrainian Red CrossEven better, they can't even get that right. Bethesda, the company so incompetent they can't even extort their players without messing that up too.
Who is paying for this crap?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Meanwhile at the investors meeting for Bethesda...
Executive: "MORONS! I'VE GOT MORONS ON MY TEAM!! Fallout 76 is doing THIS poorly!?" (pointing to a graph showing the review score of Fallout 76 dropping like a rock)

At this point, I am gonna say "less on fuck up and more on deliberate"
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Don't underestimate stupidity.
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Fallout 76's New Premium Subscription Service Is Horribly Broken Because Of Course It Is
Jim got referenced in the mainstream media, too. This is absolutely hilarious... I can say since I don't play the game.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Welp. Fallout's no stranger to getting nuked, I think it's time for Fallout 76 to get nuked into oblivion like the old Final Fantasy XIV.
It's been 3000 years…Difference is Square Enix is actually capable of making good games. I don't think Bethesda has made a single game that wasn't a broken mess, Fallout 76 is just the culmination of that.
Bethesda has always made buggy, unstable and visually unappealing games, the difference was people didn't really care so much because the kinds of games they were making were unique and their worlds had cool lore and lots of things to do and explore.
76 removes most of the strengths of Bethesda games and magnifies the flaws, which in retrospect has caused some people to judge their previous work more negatively and that they were too lenient on them prior.
I've been saying this for a while but Arkane, Tango, Machine Games or id gotta take up Fallout and Elder Scrolls now.
It doesn't help that on top of that, their recent business practices and their attempt at paid mods that weren't called paid mods, but were totally paid mods suggests that the redeeming factors won't be in Elder Scrolls 6. It'll still be buggy, there'll stil be jank animations and mechanics, but the Bethesda of today would be happy to toss in micro transactions if they could get away with it and might try and prevent the game from getting mods.
Just imagine an Elder Scrolls game without mods, ever.
That reminds me Fighteer, a dev for Wolfenstein: Youngblood got chased off Twitter.
Machine Games got so much crap for Youngblood and it's just a spin-off, actual Wolfenstein III: The New Thing is yet to happen.
