Well, religion has been in decline for much longer than the eighties. More and more people don't even have a religion anymore, of if they do, they are passive believers, nominally Christian/Jewish/whathaveyou, but not really practicing their religion at all.
I think that was the main trend early Simpsons focussed on with Lovejoy: Christians who can't be bothered to go to church anymore.
Optimism is a duty.Danny Elfman says the show is reaching the end of the line...

Keep in mind that Danny Elfman's only contribution to the show was composing the theme song. I'm not sure where he's getting this info from, or how he would know it.
Again, Disney just got their hands on this show. They're gonna want to keep this golden goose for as long as possible.
Honestly Disney would probably be more fondly remembered if they ended it.
(*totally forgot Elfman's contribution was just the theme song*)
Well. As the saying goes:
D'OH!
Of course some fans would argue the show reached the end of the line decades ago.
I don't think Disney would pull the plug on this show anytime soon, either. They'll probably want to make a trilogy of movies out of it first.
Optimism is a duty. They'll only pull the plug if it's damaging the Disney brand,or they find Simpsons merch isn't selling
New theme music also a boxThey said they want to make a sequel to the Simpsons movie so perhaps that will be the form of their finale.
Would it? How many shows end their run with a movie?
Also, given how old this franchise is, it's astonishing there aren't more movies already.
Optimism is a duty.> it's astonishing there aren't more movies already.
Not really, animated films take YEARS to make and often dont make their money back unless its a Disney movie, another Simpsons movie would be a huge gamble and I dont think its one worth taking
New theme music also a boxWell, there's your answer, then: now, a Simpsons movie IS a Disney movie.
Optimism is a duty.If is another 'Simpsons movie' it will released through their new service,Disney +
New theme music also a boxDoes that mean the Simpsons are on the list for a Disney Live Action remake?
Gods, I hope not.
A 3D movie might work, though.
Optimism is a duty.Groening was rather proud of the film being 2D (the ads even brag about it) so probably not.
Yeah, big surprise.
Optimism is a duty.Hope Todd mentions both Maude and Edna in the next episode.
I had a thought about the movie.
When fleeing the angry mob, the Simpsons get into the car. Where were they planning to go? Even if the mob didn't take the car to the backyard, Springfield is sealed off.
They still had the entirety of Springfield to drive around in, though. Plenty of places to hide, in theory.
Optimism is a duty.Since this is the Simpsons thread, here's a bunch of info on Hit And Run and a little bit on Road Rage.
It seems the developers were looking forward to making a bigger and better sequel, but their publisher (Vivendi) didn't want to, the biggest reason being licensing and development costs.
Also, Road Rage came out as it did because of script rewrites from Gracie Films, Groening not wanting the artstyle to be like the show, and the retail PS 2's being weaker than the devkits they had when they were developing it.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Can anybody refresh my memory? Which episode did Santa's Little Helper end up going to the retirement home and stayed for a while and when Marge returned to pick him up, he had turned into a tired elder like the human residents Marge then turns around and notices the same thing happened to Lisa and drags them both out. to narrow it down, Marge also spelled out they were going to get Bart circumcised.

It was Don't Fear the Roofer according to the Simpsons wiki

I suppose it was a reference to Reganomics, and how society became a lot more obsessed with material possessions than spiritual enlightenment.
