Well, this episode just shows how much this season is rivaling Heartcatch in darkness.

We also learn that Homare's parents are divorced, an issue that was last talked about in Fresh.

It's been like almost a decade since a subject like that has been brought up.

Harry being a former member of Kraisu was obvious. An attack dog Kaijin, on the other hand? That wasn't what I was expecting from a former member. I think thats the first time a Fairy was turned into a legit Kaijin, too.

I am vouching this series is getting more properly dark than Doki Doki Precure. I mean Doki Doki Precure was dark, but it had trouble handling it's execution. However, with this show they really know how to handle it all well with ease.

26. Hana, I don't think being an android is a proper life dream or goal. More Saaya being all introspective on herself and what her desires are. Nice to see more of her family and all, but Ranze was definitely the real star. Will she overcome her leek trauma? Apparently Lulu can drool. I guess we know what Saaya's final focus episode will be about.

One thing I generally like about the season is the darker elements. I feel this season does it pretty damn well. I feel that while other precure seasons have darker moments, sometimes they feel a bit shoehorned in at the end. Hugtto surprisingly handles them well. It feels organic in a sense. Like, there are dark elements but never feels like it completely overtakes the narrative.

Harry's reveal as a monster, Ruru's pretty graphic scene, Hana's self doubt and literally washing her fears away, it feels like it's eases you into it.

I think Hugtto is awesome...but its slacking off a bit lately. Since... Ma Cherie and Amour joined, its not been as great.

I think its just as great.

One thing that would probably traumatize the children is if Hana went down the Oersted route ala Live A Live. The fact that her end goal is still a complete unknown other then being a "Onee-san" type is actually kinda worrying.

It's fun seeing an evil corporation again. It's really great to contrast Dark Tomorrow company with the Nightmare Group from Yes Pretty Cure Five. In this series, they really go with exploring the themes of the Japanese workforce in contrast with the other series which just could have well been an evil kingdom.

Yeah, thats my main problem with Nightmare. They didn't really do anything with the Evil Corporation idea other then use it as a headquarters for the villains.

Now it's been awhile since I watched Yes but from what I remember of it there's barely any difference between how Nightmare was portrayed and how the Criasu Corp is. Eternal from GoGo on the other hand...

Nightmare mostly played up how Japan expects employees to dedicate their lives to the company over all else, even if it gets them killed. Mostly there for flavor and subtle critique, not really the main focus or even all that integrated with Nightmare's greater themes.

I do say that Dark Tommorow really explores workforce culture more than Nightmare did. Probably because at this point the hardships of the corporate life is a theme that has been going on in anime recently.

Nightmare isn't that prominent about the corporate culture mostly because Despariah is not that fitting when it comes to the supposed theme of 'evil company'. She and Bloody seem to come out of the standard 'evil kingdom' archetype of bad guys, but their underlings are those from 'evil company'. While it can be argued that they're pretty similar, the way they carry themselves causes inconsistency toward the supposed theme. Because there's no way in hell Kawarino can backstab Bloody if it's in the 'evil company' archetype because in the standard corporate, only those in the same stratum of corporate ladder capable do that especially when Bloody has the seniority dibs. Only in 'evil kingdom' archetype you can do that.

tl;dr Nightmare is more an 'evil kingdom' than an 'evil company', so the comparison between which one between Nightmare and Criasu is more 'evil company' is not that fair.

Bloody was legit my favorite villain Yes 5. Awesome human and monster design and had the best fight in the season aside from the final Kawarino fight.

Yeah, Desperaia acts more like the evil queen of a kingdom rather than a head of a company.

Also one thing I would love for later Precure series is to be more varied in their Blue and Purple Cure depictions. They always seem to be the same Smart Rich Girl archetype.

Reika was basically the culmination of the super smart and competent ojou blue Cures. The other ones either had to go in a different direction (Rikka somehow being the normal one, everything about Hime, Aoi being a rockstar) or just feel underwhelming compared to her (Minami).

Purples seem pretty different in general aside from having some of the most edge in their groups.

Minami is THE most interesting and well written character when compared to Saaya. Which is insanely sad.

Eh, Minami only got her good episodes in the final quarter. Before that she was about as generic blue ojou as you could get. Saaya is probably the weak link of the Hugtto crew, but her episodes have developed her in a more interesting manner and she only very loosely fits into the archetype.

You know it would be interesting if they shook up the formula and made the Pink Lead the oujou. I don't think that any magical girl shows have the Pink Lead being an ojou. It could be about a Pink Lead, who transfers from a private to public school to see how middle class people live. Maybe that series' theme could be about money and charity.

I think Hibiki is the richest pink. And that's not a trait that stands out for her. Probably hurts their relatable aspect or something.

I do think having a privileged pretty cure would be interesting. Maybe the blue cure that season would act how a stereotypical pink cure would act.

Also it would be awesome to have a pretty cure pink lead who is a well written braniac unlike Doki Doki. Maybe a season where science is a big theme.

About the blue Cures, Erika is as different as you can get among them. To me, Aoi tried to match her charm and success, but she didn't have Erika's level of dominance and star power (ironic considering who's supposed to be the celebrity for her respective story).

  • On another note, I'm very surprised that we don't have a shy blue-haired blue Cure yet considering how Troperiffic this franchise is. For the purple Cures, they're my 2nd favorite lineup thus far (my first being the Yellows).

[up][up][up] We've already had plenty of Ojou style Cures recently. I'd rather see a pink cure be somebody completely different from what the color would like us to believe (like Tsubomi was with her shyness). An over-aggressive pink Cure with a Hair-Trigger Temper would be the direction I would choose.

These two may literally be more bark than bite, but they are no less tenacious than everyone else.
