I read the books and believe me, THEY WERE FUNNY!!!!!! The Movie though, I don't know. They have a lot of good bathroom/gross body humor to it, but I think it would be kind of a lot for a movie. I mean yeah, this stuff is good for a book like this and adding a little crude humor to stuff always makes things better, but... I think they may need to tone it down a bit if their gonna get people to watch it, cuz this kind of stuff can get boring/ disgusting if it is done too much.
I've always found that the major strength of the series is how much it DOESN'T rely on crude or gross-out humor. It kind of fakes you out in that way—makes you think that that's what it'll be all about, and then it sucker punches you with a barrage of clever jokes, witty writing, and a self-aware-as-hell tone.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here.yeah but you gotta get passed the title and the character's names first, and I'm sorry if that's the first thing we gotta see when being introduced to the series, I'm not gonna want any part of it.
I will admit, even as a kid the name made me ambivalent, but I'd argue people shouldn't be so judgemental just based on something's name.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Don't make judge someone because of their name, they might just make you change yours.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatSo the movie is coming out this year, the cast is chosen and images of it have surfaced◊. I am reviving this topic to ask this simple question: has anybody found a trailer for this movie?
Reminds me of the Peanuts movie in terms art and animation,
I said trailer, not information I already know but some people who aren't as up to date as me doesn't know!
Yeah, they are going for a Peanuts style of having 3D models appear 2Dish. Which is fitting as the art style of the book series work best when appearing 2D. My question though is will the Captain Underpants comics inside the movie will be done in full traditional 2D? After all, those comics are crudely done cartoons made by elementary students.
Also, I wonder how they are going to translate those gimmicky flip pages that always occur in the books. I always like those as a kid.
I think I'm going to love the animation, but as for the voices, I guess I wasn't thinking Kevin hart.
"We be we baby!"i thought some the voices didn't fit, especially the main characters.
MIAI figured whenever I read it, they would use real kid V As and CU would be voiced by Gilbert Godfrey.
"We be we baby!"I don't think the voice they chose for Mr. Krupp/Captain Underpants is too bad. Sounds kind of like how I imagined he would. The Dawson Casting on George and Harold is pretty obvious, though.
The animation looks great. It really does look like Dav Pilkey's usual artstyle if it were CGI.
"Lucian, don’t be afraid, we’ll make it through this."The voices of the kids do not fit at all. That being said, at least they are comedians with good timing and I do like everything else. For example, I never thought I would see a gag like the tiger (obvious live action photo) in a CGI animated film.

Yeah, George and Harold's voices are pretty jarring, not at all like I imagined. But the rest of the movie looks fun, so I can probably move past that.
well actually, come to think of it, their has been some kid characters voiced by adults, like dipper from gravity falls. but then again, it worked for them not them.
MIADon't really mind George and Harold being voice by the main stars of Real Husbands of Hollywood and Silicon Valley respectively. But it would of been nice if they had use child actors like another certain cgi movie that retains the original source art style (Peanuts).
But Ed Helm as Mr. Krupp/Captain Underpants is perfect casting, especially how different the range in voice between the two identities turn out.
Also, based on what shown in the trailer, it really seems to be compressing the first four books into one movie. All that is missing are alien lunch ladies using mind controlling food to turn kids into zombie nerds and be fed to a giant plant.
Yeah the kids voices were strange. The voice for Mr. Kripp and Captain Underpants were pretty good though.
Something that did confuse me though was that choice of trailer music. Why use an obvious sex track for a kids movie?
Well technically not just a kids movie as Captain Underpants has been around since I was a young child (like 11 years ago or so years ago) but there is still is going to be a lot of kids watching it.

Wow.
I never read this series as a kid but...
...wow. I did not expect this. Are these the same animators who made that trailer for the Popeye movie.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Ed Helms did the "Tra-La-La!" part wonderfully.

They appear to be melding the first two books together; first he becomes Captain Underpants, and then Professor Poopypants shows up.
They also have the Turbo Toilet 2000 and science fair gone wrong from the second book, though the trailer suggests Melvin is the one to invent the Turbo Toilet.

Oh great, we get Melvin >.>
Yeah, Charlie Adler seems close to what I was thinking. I mentioned it earlier in the thread, but I suppose I might as well repeat it—I've always pictured Mr. Krupp having a voice that sounds like General Specific from Sheep In The Big City and the Cap having a voice like Barney Rubble.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.
