herp derp Hollywood butchering classics childhood raped yada yada yada

In all seriousness I actually don't really dislike the look of it, but it still looks like it could go either way.

What do YOU think? Will this film speak for the trees?

Well, it's very visually appealing, for a start. But that's...sort of a serious problem, if, going by the trailer, the first trailer scene is in the futuristic world after all the trees are dead. Everything's bright and shiny and happy, but, you know, ALL THE TREES ARE DEAD AND THINGS SHOULD BE DARK AND GLOOMY.

But I think it looks nice, and I might as well go see it in theaters when the time comes! (Also, the choice of Danny Devito as The Lorax is infinitely amusing.)

I dunno, it's probably going to be a Crapsaccharine World, it only LOOKS bright, shiny, and happy, but under the surface something is terribly, terribly wrong.

Besides, in the original book, we only see the Onceler's place being dark and gloomy (which it is in this movie too); there was no indication that the entire world was in that state.

Also, the choice of Danny Devito as The Lorax is infinitely amusing.

Yes it is, but I'm actually surprised that he sounds surprisingly good in the role. Somehow it's fitting; when I stop and think about it, the Lorax actually does look a little like Devito, or at least how Devito looks presently.

Will they still sing "For he's a jolly good Onceler, aren't we all?"

[up][up][up] Dude, it had everything Bright and happy when there were trees, and still decent without. But, you know, with no wildlife what so ever.

But really, it's the Lorax. As was said before, if it's not a little Anvilicious, something's wrong. Its really not that bad when you think about it though. It has us surviving without nature being around much, but people missing it. Of course, it leaves out the Tech that would be necessary to keep the world livable, but it's Suess.

[up] hopefully

Wow this looks so incredibly cheesy, but I can see it being okay. It was better towards the end of the trailer with the Lorax (that's the name of the orange thing, right?) than it was in the beginning, too sugary for my taste. But... it looks really nice, I can see myself watching it.

I never read the book though, I want to but I can't get my hands on it. I only know that it was controversial but, hm, yeah.

[up] Its kind of like "catcher in the rye" on controversy. It was when it came out, but nothing special about it now. Basically it says the over-harvesting the trees screws up the environment. I don't want to say more, because you should read it yourself, without spoilers.

Considering this film looks similar to the recent adaptation of Horton Hears a Who, which was surprisingly good(depending on who you ask), it looks like it has potential. I feel that some thought and effort have been put into this.

I'll give this one a chance. After all, Horton Hears a Who wasn't butchered, I think another successful Seuss film is possible.

Yea, the suess remakes seem to be better then most. They messed up the grinch a little, but nothing major. they really just made it more relevant for today

I'd never seen or read the lorax as a wee'n, so this is pretty much fresh for me. And I gotta say, I'm liking the look of it. It's definitely nice and suess-y, lots of colour and imagination. I like the young once-ler's voice actor, too. He seems like he'll do a pretty good job.

So yeah, I'm looking forward to it.

I think I am missing something.

Is this thing a classic or a book or something?... like, everyone is reacting to it like it was some earlier book/movie...

Or maybe I just failed to realize something obvious, lol.

The only issue I had with the Grinch live-action film was that his backstory in the first act seemed contrived and it messed with the "whatever the reason" thing. Other than that, it was a good Adaptation Expansion and generally true to the spirit of the book (and cartoon).

Horton Hears A Who (also with Jim Carrey) was also good. Really, the only bad Dr. Seuss adaptation we've had was The Cat In The Hat, and from the first trailer alone The Lorax looks way better than that travesty.

It looks like a good movie, but it doesn't really look like The Lorax, unless its a case of Never Trust a Trailer and it turns out to be fairly depressing.

Going by the trailer, this will probably kinda suck. It won't be as bad as The Cat In The Hat, but I don't think anything could be unless it tried.

[up] I didn't mind the Cat In The Hat. It could have been better, but it wasn't that terrible.

Though I've only not liked one or two movies so far, and I REALLY hated one. And it's only because they were poor remakes of books. (Eragon and Harry Potter 3. They cut too much out from both, and just butchered Eargon.)

[up][up][up][up][up][up]The Lorax is Dr. Seuss's most controversial story, and is considered one of his classics, if not exactly his most popular.

But yes, this looks like it has some promise. I'll just stay away from all the purists saying "they changed the moral of the story so it sucks". I heard Danny De Vito in that character, and was sold. He's gonna be perfect for this role.

The added characters and romance are painfully predictable.

Also, if there are no trees, what are those tree-like things everywhere in the suburb scenes?

[up][up] I read somewhere that they're just plastic.

While I'm still not sold on this movie, I will wait until it actually comes out before judging it. Horton was good, but it was made by 20th Century Fox. this one is being made by Universal. And all the Dr Seuss film adaptations made by Universal have, quite frankly, sucked.

At least this one looks pretty.
