The medication I've been trying has helped me immensely. I honestly cannot believe how I managed to survive past school without it. Especially high school.

The meds for me DO help. Wish I didn't have to take 'em, but ah well, can't complain.

[up]Nice deviantart stuff, by the way.

I avoided taking them at first, but that didn't work. So I decided to give it a try and, well I was not disappointed.

Thanks a lot! grin

[up]What art style did you use to make those? They're pretty cool!

Anyone else find that music helps a LOT?

Art style? I just do it the way I feel more like it, so you could say I use my personal crazy random style.

Music does help a lot. It's the main reason why I am always with my iPod in hand. It's also really useful when I'm trying to read or study.

I've found music or TV shows playing in the background really helps me focus, especially when drawing. I think it's just that my eyes are hands are focused on the picture, but I need my ears focused on something or else it doesn't work. Movies don't really work because they only last for 1 1/2 - 2 hours, whereas a TV season is 10+ hours.

I don't have an official diagnosis yet, but that's most likely since my mother has undiagnosed Asperger's and didn't really notice that sort of thing. Went through all of my school years being called a bookworm since I got top grades despite barely managing to study at all... that didn't exactly help the teachers notice anything either (I come from a pretty small town where the teachers had barely been taught about dyslexia). I didn't really think that it was something out of the ordinary until I stumbled across some articles about it and realized that everything in there sounded very familiar. After about 20 years I finally know that there's something not everyone has to deal with, and that there's medication for it. I saw a psychologist while I was living in Spain who confirmed it, but I never got official papers so I could get help back home. The depression is not making it easier to actually go see a doctor about medication though, even though I'd really like to try it.

[up]Would you care for some across-the-intrawebs tips to help with that depression? It really does suck, and we all need the help we can get.

Dear diary,

Today I forgot the year, my location (up to and including the state), and my legal first name. Obviously I remember now, but it's strange to think that a first-response squad could have justifiably assessed me as disoriented and incompetent.

Another Troper has joined your ranks.

Here's a question for ya, who agrees with me hat ADHD can be an advantage? My thought processes is spastic and unorthodox, but it is very quick and helps me come up with ideas and connect things quickly, as long as I can keep it on track :p

Some people think I'm strange. I think it's sad that they can't see all the awesome stuff going on in my head right now.

Sometimes, yes. It really depends. Other times, it's just plain annoying and even embarassing.

I was prescribed to take ritalin... but I forgot to take it all the fricking time. I still have it ~_~

So I decide it to go without medication. Truth of the matter is that by stablishing routines for yourself and a lot of blood sweat and tears you can overcome it.

But in my personal experience, ADHD is a real thing, it has noticible effects on our lives, its a situation most of us would rather not have, and its not one of those "society just doesnt understand your special uniquness". I once lost 3 wallets within a month after never ever in my live having had such problem. There have been many times in which I have almost been reduced to tears.

This disorders comes with its advantages do, if one can control the bad stuff it becomes a plus, IRL I feel like it gives me a lot of elastic intelligence, but if the negative side is not under check it can make life pretty tough.

As for me I am doing pretty well for myself not to be medicated. Discipline its the only answer... but it´s not easy.

I don't necessarily know if some of my more positive traits are related to ADD or just common to people with ADD, but my mind is very good at synergizing material, picking unique angles, and catching similarities.

On the flip side, if I'm trying to decide between three brands of Vitamin K2, I will be researching, double-checking, and agonizing for an hour.

Sometimes when I'm trying to pay attention people think I'm being insincere because I look REALLY rapt. In truth, it's because my attention wanders very easily, even when I'm interested in what they're saying. If I'm hanging on someone's every word, they better feel honored. evil grin

I got diagnosed with ADHD when I was in the first grade! I also was diagnosed with Schizophrenia and Depression.

For some reason I have told my classmates about these problems ad they all laugh at me like I'm one of those Mentally Retarded..... I don't understand why society label us as 'A Cancer to the world'.

Why do people think of ADHD/ADD victims as failures and losers?

I supposedly have ADHD, but I think I was just a very hyperactive child. Still, it's on my medical records.

[up] I don't... know...

Diagnosed at second grade apparently, but my parents didn't bother telling me until I was 12 or so. (No idea how I didn't notice, but a lot of things made sense after they told me that.) They also didn't want me taking the meds, so... No meds for me I guess.....

Apparently, you can get over it according to my mom almost a decade ago.

Also according to her and a doctor; I went down from ADHD to ADD when I reached a certain age.

Am I being bullshitted here, or is this a thing?

Try imagining how far the universe extends! Keep thinking about it until you go insane.

You can get rediagnosed, if the doctor thinks your diagnosis was wrong, but I'm 99% sure you can't just get over it.

It sounds like you're being bullshitted, dude.
